Replace the battery in two versions of Audi flip key key fob, old and new.

Here we show how to replace the battery in two versions of Audi flip key key fobs. The cases are identical on the outside but the newer flip key fobs hold the battery differently.
We will need the tip of a small screwdriver and a new CR 2032 battery.

This was very informative as usual. When you took the backing slip off the battery, I remembered that I screwed that "minor" detail up a month ago. For a time, I could not figure out why one of my garage door openers wouldn't work. I figured it was just an old bad battery. I opened the unit up and to my total surprise, I had failed to remove that paper cover. No wonder that darn opener wouldn't work, I thought. 😉

Do you know if you can put the PCB and chip from the old key into the new key case? And use the new style case/housing? Thanks

Definitely won't fit another case without extensive and likely impossible modification...

Getting a key to reprogram itself is more complicated. Usually SAFE appears on the cluster and the car won’t start. If one quickly uses a standard key to start the car, the SAFE mode will disappear, but waiting too long will put the mode in no-start forever UNLESS one uses the standard key left in the “ON” position while the car battery is hooked to a charger for about an hour. I tried that with the remote fob but it didn’t work; it only worked with a standard key.

I've never encountered this and sounds like it is associated with a start battery issue...
