That is a super clever homebrew solution to the chin guns! You are the master sir!
@garshanarny8 жыл бұрын
Your improvised guns actually appear to light up much brighter. Not surprising, I guess, considering how clear the material is, but it's just so cool how they appear to concentrate the flash right at the business end. Good job!
@toypolloi8 жыл бұрын
+garshanarny They do light up well. It's probably because there are none of the extra bits to hold the gun in place in the way of the light. Just the perspex rod. I think I will do a second version of this as I have another idea.

Your replacements work better than the originals, as the rod has been configured as optical fibre - there's no light loss at the side of the rod, as all the light travels down to the end, and is very bright. A nice job.

The light looks better on your home made ones

Thank you sir, this is pretty nice news! I just bought two sets. One to replace my yellowed originals and another for an experiment. I'm going to paint that set silver, except for the ends (to help the light piping and stop light leakage) then paint the exterior color matching the rest of the vehicle. (Again, leaving the ends clear.) I think it might look killer to have just the tips of the cannons lighting up. I was always let down by the clear cannons on the AT-AT just because it didn't look right. (I'd never paint my originals though just because that's how Kenner did it and I don't want to degrade the toy's history for whoever has it when I'm gone.) I like how bright the tips of your home made cannons are! (It also appears that the entire shaft doesn't glow like my originals. Maybe the perspex rod has fewer impurities in it versus something injection molded?)

I have a question: I have an AT-AT whose cheek gun peg is broken off and the pegs for both chin guns are broken off. I was thinking about using similar size screws to replace the pegs, but I’m not sure if that is the way to go. Any ideas? Thanks! 🤖

You could make replacements out of varying sizes of styrene sheet. Check out my more modern toy repair videos to see what is possible.

Very good Dave, remember getting my vintage AT AT as a kid and the guns were missing. Used a cake dowel they fit in nicely but were white rather then clear so couldn't see them light up.

I remember losing the chin guns off of mine when I took it outside in the winter. My mother wrote to Kenner about it and they had a great program for replacement parts so I ended up getting a second set mailed to me free. (Try writing Hasbro about such a thing today!)

It's the same gun for either side. They just clip in place.

Very simple. Plus the bonus is that these newer acrylics and plastics don't yellow like the originals. I think paying over the odds for really yellowed originals is just plain stupid.
