In this video, we replace all of the fluids in a 2002 Toyota 4runner (3rd Generation) that make it mechanically sound, besides gasoline of course. Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy and learn something new!

Another happy 3rd gen 4Runner owner here, and I only lucked into it by chance! A friend of mine was selling a car right when I was needing one and I said sure why not it’s a Toyota, how could I go wrong? But I had no idea how lucky I’d gotten! I got a mint condition 2000 Toyota 4Runner for $3000.00 and nothing is wrong with it, I mean everything on that truck works! I’m so jazzed! I’ve done the spark plugs on it and a few other things but your video is very helpful and I think I can do the rest now too, thanks! 💪👊👍

I did all the fluids, expect wiper fluid, in the span of about 3 months. It was fun and easy. Timmy the tool man has great videos on 4runners. I think he did most of the fluids on his 40k maintenance video.

For the oil get a drain pan but if you wanna use that get a funnel you use only for draining and custom fit it to that oil holder.

What did you get? I snagged a '97 SR5 about six weeks ago with 281,000 miles on her. She is rough so I got it really cheap. Most of the work so far has been cleanup and rust removal. There is a ton of maintenance to get caught up on. Oil and coolant is done but I'm just getting started on the differential and transfer cases.

@@MCgrease08 2001 SR5 metal 217xxx miles few little dings nothing major. Paint is wearing like older Toyota’s do! But the best thing is it has ZERO rust! Just spent a little under a grand for new struts and suspension and it drives like new. As a plus is it came with a dvd touch screen already installed

@@HenAndPenn Nice. I dig the look of the '01s. Mine was an old farm truck so it was all dirt and rust underneath. Found some holes in the frame after going over it real good. Nothing awful, but enough that they need some TLC. Getting some SafeTCaps welded on soon to shore that up. Suspension is high on the priority list of stuff to do after that. I spent less than a grand to buy it, so don't feel bad about having to sink a little money into it upfront to get a solid platform to work from.

Save a big piece of cardboard, or a heavy canvas tarp. Lay that down first then do your oil change. It will save your back a bit if you dont have a creeper, and you can reuse it

When you go to change the fluids, throw a few sheets of cardboard underneath to catch any spills so they don't stain your garage floor

I'm not aware of an oil cooler. Are you talking about the transmission oil cooling aspect? If so there are many gaskets and it takes up half of the radiator, I have heard of the wall between the coolant and ATF failing often.
@kevinw.8946
@kevinw.8946 Жыл бұрын
@@mattuccibuilt3970 No, I'm referring to the engine oil cooler directly beside the oil filter. Looks like a bronze-ish hockey puck. It mounts to the block and has 2 radiator hoses going to it. Big banjo bolt through the middle.

@mattuccibuilt3970
@mattuccibuilt3970 2 жыл бұрын
Good point, I just guess it's not "100%" I had some refrigerant left over in a can and tried to fill this up it was already in the green zone, to my knowledge a/c is less of a maintenance thing unless it ever goes out or has a leak.
@witelandsTheLegend87

@@mattuccibuilt3970 the little cans you buy from auto zone aren't even R134a / R1234YF. They're litterally propane in a can.. ozone depleting substances like refrigerants require a global safe handling license and proper way to recover and dispose of the old refrigerant. Imo, nobody should touch a/c unless they have the ticket and equipment or are being overseen by somebody with the ticket and equipment

@@witelandsTheLegend87 A/C Pro seems to be synthetic R-134a to my knowledge, but agreed, to refill the A/C system the tool and canisters should be used.
