So when i have someone plumbing my house, cause i plan on building, is it unreasonable to have them give me a rundown on the plumbing in the crawlspace? If i am willing to pay for that time.

Why solder when you could have used them threads? If your answer is solders better then why did you use the pro press?
@austinsonger3883 ай бұрын
Those threads on the valve body actually don't hold the copper. There used to hole the sleeve that holds the valve in place. That was actually a super clean install.
@creeper24793 ай бұрын
@@austinsonger388 are you explaining how it holds? That’s not what I asked sir.

You can use threads, but soldering is best practice for shower valves and what I was always thought when replacing them. Though I used pro press just because it was inside a wall cavity so made it safer and faster to press on inside the wall rather than solder

In Australia you can't even use threads in the wall just in case the leak has to be locksealed so was good idea to weld inside the wall and b pres

I personally prefer soldering but most of the people I’ve seen coming into the trade are being taught speed is the key. Soldering is becoming a thing of the past. I’ve used every method possible and they have their advantages and drawbacks. But in the video between the stem wells it was brazed. Too much heat or wrong torch could cause issues. Press fittings are not a good idea they are expensive and the tool is pricey. IMO

When you solder the pipe, is it supposed to cover all around the pipe? Is that what it will seal it from leaking?
@everythinghomerepair17473 ай бұрын
The solder actually will get “pulled into” the fitting. That’s how it seals. It seals from within the fitting not just the small amount of solder you can see around the fitting. When soldering the pipe has to be very clean and flux applied. Then a torch will heat the fitting and pipe. The solder will follow the heat. Look up a few videos how it’s done in detail.

Why didn’t you ad a set of isolation valves. If and when the stems fail you will need to turn the water off to the whole dwelling again. Big inconvenience

It may have been an option. I don't see why either.
