Just used this to replace the encoder in my Razer Naga Hex V2 and it has now been restored to perfection. Cheers very much!

I just blew really hard into every nook around the scroll wheel and that fixed it for me. Compressed air did nothing. Reddit posts mentioned success with warm air as well.

Bro, it’s much easier than I thought. I have a double scroll and skip scroll on the basilisk ultimate. Man, you’re a life saver!

This helped a lot today when I had nothing to do but fix the mouse. Thanks Kris!

I needed the references for getting the mouse wheel out, ordered the spares and 2 weeks later I can't remember how the blasted thing disassembles. Ta very muchly!

You should have tested it before putting the slide pads on, in case of issues that require taking it a part. nice to see kit kept working.

I know, I did think that afterwards, I was reasonably confident though haha!

Orochi V1 owner here. It has the same encoder. Instead of replacing it, I drenched the rotary component in IPA and the problem was fixed. Pushed the IPA thru the circular pads that it has on one side and rotated it while the IPA was drying. Probably won't last for as long as a new TTC but good temp fix.
@Klayhamn Жыл бұрын
can you please explain what you mean by "push the IPA through the circular pads that i has on one side"? how can you push a liquid? and which pads?
@ChilliCao Жыл бұрын
@@Klayhamn Yeah i just drenched over it with alcohol and squished it in a bit. It didn't last though. Now I get replacement encoders from ali express, they last for about 3-4 months..
@Klayhamn Жыл бұрын
@@ChilliCao wait so the replacement doesn't last either ?
@ChilliCao Жыл бұрын
@@Klayhamn yeah a couple of months after the alcohol the problem came back. I replaced the whole rotary with ones from Ali xpress (I had to solder the connector as they came with bigger connector). That lasted 3 months and I just replaced it with another one. More on order, I found the proper connector there now too.

nice design ny razer, it's a bit of a pain to desolder/solder these to the pcb so this wired meathod is quite neat

if you are having your wheel scroll up and down randomly on you, disable the left and right switches for the wheel in synapse as its the switches to the "repeat scroll up/down" sticking in the mouse wheel, after spraying contact cleaner and wiggling it back and forth you'll work whatever dirt was on it out

This was my one worry. I have all the issues, mouse wheel jitters, cable short, and the 5 and 2 button failing on my 12 button keypad. Every part I found says Razer naga 2014, but never the chroma naga. Thanks for your comment, I can now confirm my order and wait the 12 thousand years for the parts to arrive :) except for the keypad part, still looking to find a replacement part!

@@illyasoniii Well, normally I would have replaced the mouse as it is going on 5 years old now, but during this Covid, scalpers paradise, buying new PC anything is next to impossible, hence the looking for repair videos!

@@defiant4eva oh yeah totally, plus stuff like this is really awesome starter for learning how to do other sort of electrical repair things. I highly recommend anyone, especially in this era to learn how to repair their electronics, most everything is made super easy to take apart, and to buy replacement parts directly

I've had a Razer Viper Mini for 2 weeks and the scroll wheel has started to die already.

My deathadder 2013 has the same issue with its encoder. I've only found these replacement encoders with the wires. I'm fairly certain mine is through hole. I wonder if it'd work anyways. I'll have to look around some more.

The scroll wheel click on my Naga Chroma stopped working. Do I need to replace the same part you did or is some other component/part responsible for registering the wheel click? I ordered a Naga Trinity but would like to repair this one because everything else is working and I sure as hell could use it on my secondary PC. Thanks for the video, Kris.

I was able to simply clean it by prying off the cover and cleaning it with a toothbrush + alcohol and using some superglue to hold it back together(the hardest part since they use the cheapest method they can possibly come up) and it works fine. Took about 30 minutes or so total. Did have a lot of junk in it. Clearly they make these to fail as all they would have to do is seal them. As long as the cover holds then it probably can be recleaned. If you do this make sure you get the parts in the right order that they were. The top has to have the tab go in the right direction(I winged it and got real lucky as I didn't pay attention to this) and the other part is simply a ratchet thing that has to face the right direction but it is obvious. You want to have as much meat from the plastic "screws" as possible so that the metal cover can snap on. I have no idea how to actually deal with that if it doesn't work besides gluing it which is dangerous if it seeps in to the housing.

I wonder if optical encoders are better than contact encoders?
@KrisCochrane4 жыл бұрын
I think optical ones tend to be more reliable.

I'm considering a mouse with optical switches with the hope that it would last. My first candidate would be Razer Deathadder V2 Mini... however, from KZbin teardown videos it seems it has mechanical scrollwheel encoder??? That would be a real shame. What's the point of putting optical button switches and bragging about them lasting long if your mouse becomes useless in a year because of scrollwheel wearing out? Can anyone confirm, which switches and encoders in Razer Deathadder V2 Mini are optical and which ones are not? Are there any other mouse with optical switches and optical scrollwheel encoder? I have a small hand, prefer fingertip grip and I'm a programmer, not a gamer. So, lots of scrolling of text all day long, zooming in/out into images etc.

Do you or anyone else know where to get the wheel encoder for a razor naga molten? Managed to break it while installing new cable. Razer part no. 651000018060-02? Any tips would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Just to let u know, found the part on eBay as part of the scroll wheel assembly for an Imperator. Had to unsolder the encoder from the rest of the assembly and solder it onto the main board on the naga molten, but works great. Thanks for the advice.
