I think, with the shell being in the state that it is, you are afforded an excellent opportunity to make a safer and stiffer cab. Maybe a rollhoop inside the old uprights and along the inside of the rocker panel and along the doorframes

As I was watching this I was thinking like johan that this might be a time to look at things that would come in handy further down the line I am clueless about this type of work but just from a builder of furniture and homes I always am thinking about wire chases, plumbing , lighting, extra storage etc. Don't want to sound like an armchair expert you are an awesome builder but was just thinking about those things that can get lost in the moment.

Fab skills are truely impressive, but surely you would have been better off finding a better cab even if you had to import from the states. Not a lot left of that cab! Really interested to see how you pull of the patina, I'm a fan. For sure it would be way easier and less time consuming to do a full repaint, getting that patina to match on the 50% you have to replace is an art.

You are making rapid progress on that cab saint Jeff. .. I doubt you'll get all sides of them repair pieces to match as you say they're a copies. .. But nonetheless good job on complex compound angles.. . I was thinking about the small outer centre section. Perhaps might be qn idea to wait before filling that in until you test fit the cab on the chassis/frame. Because you'll have access to that lower structural beam for bolt or welding in cab mounts? .. Geez not sure I'd want to go 70mph on that early 26hp Ford. Looks scary.😬😱

Ive been following you since you started harry, way back in 2015 when my daughter was born, love the progression, I always said your channel deserves more subscribers and views back then, I still think it deserves more, Although I love all your projects, I am a little sad about a patina build only because your prep paint and finishes on your projects is always TOP NOTCH! Its your projects not mine though, I just watch ! PS: is that an Ontario Motorcycle on the left vertical post of your spray booth? I see some Canadian Car plates there and around, I saw an Ontario one and Alberta one? Could you sell me the Ontario Motorcycle plate? Someone just stole my Plate off my 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6 and it started with an 8 (my lucky number) I noticed the plate starts with an 8, id gladly buy it and pay shipping so i can have another 8 plate to register my bike too!

Jeff, as you rebuild this cab, I’m curious why you’re not fitting it to the new chassis at the same time. Perhaps there’s an opportunity to optimize some of what you’re doing to make installation to the new chassis easier?

have you considered painting all that heavily rusted but still solid inner metal with some rust blast before hitting it with etch primer? thats what i did. works well and you just dust off the converted rust as a white powder with a wire brush before you paint.

Hi Geoff Do you know by any chance what the gross axle weight is of the coaster bus? .. Not..the gross vehicle weight. but what is the maximum legal weight on the rear axle?
@RobCantle
@RobCantle 2 ай бұрын
Our old Coaster motorhome with 1HZ did cruise along at 100-110 as long as it wasn’t too much of a hill. I’m not 100% if the diff was changed when it was first converted, but I suspect so. Still not quick and bogged down on the bigger highway hills.
@geoff3656
@geoff3656 Ай бұрын
@@HomeBuiltByJeff hi Jeff The ratio I tried with my 86 coaster with the v6 was a 4 cylinder diesel diff.. it was all good and maintained 110 kmph at 2400 rpm but the motor and transmission couldn’t take the harsher punishment of 120 kmph . In a way I tried it to destruction doing that .. not intentionally. The spline drive of box with torqconverter was 50% removed and all concerned said I should buy a lotto tick asap with the luck of getting it home. However it turns out It would of been better if the shaft had failed as the box was severely pushing on the crank and wore out the end float thrust bearings by 5mm . That push pressure was what caused major damage to both box and motor and converter. Basically a throw away job. I fitted up a complete new second hand one for $700 from a wrecker so Holden is the way to go. Vx vy vt unit is great value.. Stuart the max rear axle weight would be at tyre pressure max written on a tyre x4 I would of thought… About 2 ton ( 2000 kg) without fulcrum effect if you hang down on tow bar chassis point. With a long wheelbase coaster it would be less..
