In this video, I will show you what it takes to replace the electronic fuel injectors on a Deere IT4 13.5L engine. I had previously pulled this engine out of the tractor for a timing cover/oil pan gasket repair and the engine was running pretty rough, so we decided to replace the fuel injectors. To replace the fuel injectors you have to remove the rocker shafts so you have to reset the injector preload and valve lash clearance. Also, in this video I'm going to show off my new ammo can bluetooth speaker from Rak'd Audio. That thing is awesome!

I know it is expensive for Sloan's to pay a trainer and a trainee but at least they will know he is properly trained. Also having a trainee always slows your production down. You have a good demeanor both will the equipment and with trainees. If he is comfortable with KZbin you might have give us some background and goals he has. As always I enjoyed the video.

Zeth, thanks for the video! Great seeing where these Delphi Diesel injectors are used. Wished these E3.6 model designated injectors used the conical shaped capnuts like those found on the 12.5L two wire plug in E1 injectors. Would like to see how those sealing are removed and installed. Just finished a report for a DPAC case for Deere where the cups where not installed with the right tools. On these, injectors two and i think it was five had some signes injection gas blow by. Good luck. I be showing the video to all at the plant where we package these injectors for Deeres PDC's

Like your attentional to detail. Very thorough. Little more involved than changing injectors in an old Detroit 671 diesel. They had no ECU or injection sensors.

The reason your shop bills are so high is because deere has a monopoly on repairs though blocking any competition having programming access. They spend millions a year to make sure that no one gets diagnostic access, and millions more designing overly complicated bs than discourage people from fixing. You know deere is out of their minds just by sales, deere sells very little comparably. Most deere equipment or is leased. Nothing but out of touch with reality engineering coupled with corporate nepotism

Keep up the great informative videos kool to watch for me and to see what you guys deal with like we do its not getting any easier is it take care!

Hi from overseas, i was hoping you might point me in the right direction with a question i have. We own 7700 with a 19 speed powershift and it has almost a grinding noise coming from the back end , but it only does it on idle , noise goes away as soon as you give it any throthle . Its been doing it for the past couple years since we bought it used, but it seems to be getting louder. I was hooping you might give me some pointers where to start looking.

OK, fine business Zeth. I was wondering about a couple things. 1). What ever happened to measuring drag on a feeler gauge with a spring scale? Today I see you are "feeling" the drag on a feeler gauge with your fingers. Isn't there a more precise way to set the rocker clearance than feeling the drag with your fingers on a feeler gauge? I have a set of feeler gauges that have a .002" step for a go/ no-go but that seems too large. Maybe there should be 1/2 thou step. Or how about a dial indicator to check the lash? The indicators I have used can offer accuracy down to 2 tenths of 1 thousandths. It seems like that would be a more accurate way of knowing the clearance than the feel of drag on a feeler gauge with fingers. And 2). I was wondering about the tightening value applied with your double offset box end wrench on the valve lash lock nuts. Remember when you were disassembling the rockers and one lock nut was way way tight? @ 10:45 Considering how precise all of the other tightness tests are, i.e. the injector hold down bolt wanted 30 Lb/Ft torque, then back off 90°, then 106 Lb/Inches +90° more, it just seems like there should be a measurement on how tight the lock nut is tightened for a rocker lash setting. ben/ michigan

You should instruct your apprentice to not wear jewelry. It is very easy to get hung up by your ring finger. I have had this happen as an engine mechanic in the military. Luckily I was not hanging by the ring, but was still standing. It was an eye opener!! Never wore rings again while working.

Because the bolts can only stretch one time when using torque angle. Stretching the bolt provides more clamping force.

Deere was on this path before the epa got involved. The engine electrical is ridiculous but to me the transmission and chassis design is the real joke. They have been trying to design small farmers out of business since the 60 series. Deere is interested in corporate farming and their own egos

I find it ridiculous that a computer has to be uploaded with all the injector info to run. Quit frankly it ludicrous to have to have all this gov. Mandated emmisions that costs a fortune to repair, lessons power per gallon of fuel etc. Do you realize that 1 cross country flight in a boeing 747 burns more fuel than average farmers burn a year. And thats just one way flight at a fuel burn of 1 gallon of fuel per SECOND, 18,000gal. For a 5 hour flight. Days of just swapping out parts is over. Miss the 6619, good power low fuel burn, 0 electronics unless you count the electric shutdown. 😕

I don’t carry water for emissions, but injector compensation makes sense from every stand point. Keeps exhaust temps down, engine temps down, burns fuel more effectively, makes more power, has better harmonics, keeps consumption down, helps cold starting. I can go on and on and on. It’s not just for emissions. There is a reason modern engines are far superior and it’s not because of emissions. If you don’t like modern technology, go buy the old clapped out equipment and fix it since it’s soo easy.

I agree 100%@bradley7723. I gave 36yrs of my life to GM at their proving ground in Milford Michigan in the "occupation" of emissions and fuel economy. I entertained the FEDS when they came to my bug tussle town with their "selective enforcement" emission test vehicles. It was 100% political. Just because Las Angeles had a stagnant air problem, our entire country had to go hog wild into computer controlled everything to supposedly "clean up" tailpipe pollution. Whatever the California Air Resources Board "CARB" wanted the entire country had to adopt. I use a 1948 8N tractor and I drive a 1969 vehicle. I don't give a tinker's damn about emissions. It's all BS and we all pay for the whims of those politicians who are completely lobbied. *(bribed) The Nancy Piglousy types flew back and forth from Calif. to DC how many thousand times? What a bunch of BS! Those politicians used more fuel than my whole family combined over all of our lifetimes. How can a tractor possibly even figure into their Clean Air Act? Contributing less than 1/10th of 1%. We have to get this under control. THEY WORK FOR US! ben/ michigan

You are looking at it with blinders. That 747 is carrying 350 people. How much fuel would it take to move those people the same distance in 10 busses or 78 or more cars? If the computer makes the tractor use less fuel then the farmer spends less and makes more.
