To anyone about to do this, just buy one with a reservoir attached. minimal cost difference to the effort saved.

Yooo the ratchet tie down trick was clutch. The belt is definitely a two man job but the ratcheting tie down made it possible with just myself.
@SteeleOfAllTrades4 ай бұрын
Agreed two person job. Most difficult belt I have had to deal with so far. Glad the the technique helped you!

Totally unnecessary, never had a problem. Use the double open wrench Technique you'll never have a problem taking it off it's actually super easy

I wish you luck! Most difficult one I have come across yet. When you do get it on be sure to give yourself a pat on the back. You can tell your friends or coworkers and they'll nod their heads but they won't understand like anyone who has experienced it.

I've done it so many times on my mazda 6 Basically the same exact motor. use the double open end wrench technique. It will extend your wrench . Just get a wrench extender\ Or a pipe to go over your wrench.. Ten to twelve inches should be enough

With this particular vehicle you use automatic transmission fluid it's recommended . Don't use power steering fluid it's not the same. It's supposed to be dark red.. But yeah his fluid needed to be changed a year or decade ago
@SteeleOfAllTrades25 күн бұрын
I put that in the description too. Thank you though it is important. I think the owner may have used the cheap generic power steering fluid from auto part store but 🤷♂️

Hey, good luck! Hardest part is the belt lol. Let me know if you have questions / if I can help in any way. Only attempt when you have time. It required patience.

@@SteeleOfAllTrades I drew a diagram of the belt/pulley assembly. My p/s fluid was just as black. You saved me probably $200-$300 in mechanic work.

Hey man! Firstly hello from Australia! With your video I was able to take out my power steering pump completely on my own as a person with essentially 0 mechanical experience. I have one question though, my fluid was also extremely bad, and I want to flush the system fully. What should I do from here? 1ROAD on youtube has a good video on flushing. He disconnects the 'low pressure return line' (which is the one we disconnected right, when we drain the system in your video down the bottom?), he then blocks off the reservoir with a plug, and then fills the reservoir, turns the wheels with engine off and pumps through fluid until it is clear. I understand the process, I just dont know which lines are which on the mazda and which to block off. To me the high pressure hose looks like the banjo bolt one, and the low pressure is the one we disconnected, but which side do I plug, the hose side or the metal pipe side, in this case with the cx 7? He plugs the metal pipe side in his vid but it's a different car, and when I poured fluid through like you did to flush that pipe, it comes straight out the reservoir into and out the hose, so wouldn't I need to block the hose not the metal pipe (in the join we disconnected when we drained it) Sorry for the gigantic message. I just want to flush it properly but can't figure out the best way Either way, thanks for your help dude, you alone helped me change my own pump so stoked 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

Great job! This is why I make the videos is I hope it helps someone out there. Glad you were able to figure out the lines. This one is a bit different than other pump configurations. Sounds like a lot of people had oil just as bad as mine. Congrats on doing it by yourself. If you could do this repair you can do anything 🤘

I'm about to take my power steering pump out. So I can get to the thermostat housing .. And since i'm at it might replace water pump...im at 90k I'm sure I could just put the power steering to the side. But I rather just take it out. Get it out of the way if I'm gonna do the water pump too. Looks easy enough to remove.. You're making the belt seem like it's hard to replace it's super easy.. In fact the alternator on this particular motor.. Is pretty daunting. But I could remove it from jacking up the car to fully removed and replaced within 30 minutes. I've done it multiple times. I found a trick in replacing the alternator the one bolt put A. Wire around so you can make a handle because you can only work with one hand. That handle you can hold with your right arm. Add manipulate the alternator with your left.. Once that one bolt is started.. It's smooth sailing.. The absolute hardest thing to do one. This car believe it or not tie rod ends.. Still having problems removing them On my six.. I've done just a butt everything to the car your name it ive done it... My problem right now immediate problem i've been open thermostat... Thank god it's open not closed... It's kinda funny going down the road And your temperature Never goes above 160.. But i'm getting beautiful heat from the heater.. I'm thinking maybe a bad temperature Sensor. But it's new I don't think it's the temperature Sensor.. I could feel the thermostat open. Unless i'm feeling wrong.. I'll start the car, feel the bottom hose. And keep my hand there... As the car runs.. Maybe four minutes later I'll feel the hot coolant Come out all at once. So to me it seems like the thermostat is actually working. Maybe i'm getting a false temperature reading.. I did replace the water outlet and temperature sensor About eight months ago

You need a pipe or double end wrench Technique to remove the belt or just get a wrench extender. You need at least 10 to 12 inches. To have enough strength to move that tensioner... Actually longer the better. Ten to twelve is enough for me at least. It's actually super easy
