One thing that seems apparent to me is the over sized polley on the alternator , the coils on the old one looked toast possibly due to overheating, you dont have enough breathing space for the ports on the alternator with that pulley design. Something to look into.

I think the pulley I have is the stock size. The only difference is that it is aluminum. Looks bigger in the video because of that cone washer it has on it I think. If I have this problem again I'm definitely going to go with a pulley/fan design. The old coils did look pretty burned up.

What about a bay window hatch

Weird that the alternator went out. I've had mine for years and it's still good. Didn't this come new when you bought the engine from CB performance? Something must be wrong or that was a faulty alternator?
@gottasplit5707 Жыл бұрын
I think my battery terminal was the cause, or maybe that went bad because of the bad alternator. Either way, my battery terminal ended up being corroded off as well.

@@gottasplit5707 oh interesting sounds crazy I wonder if the battery messed up the alternator some how.

U can reach down through ur hatch and just undo the nut that holds on the fan. U should be able to change the alternator in roughly 8 to 10 minutes.
@gottasplit57072 жыл бұрын
Never seen it done that way before, but it might work. Might have to loosen the fan shroud anyway though since the back plate on the alternator is still connected to the alternator with the two nuts. The back plate sticks into the shroud a bit. Also, even with the fan unbolted it won't come out of the shroud through the back. It still might be easier than removing everything though. Next time.
