I looked online for a quality fan washer that is made of spring steel... Nope! When I install my next fan using this kit I will probably assemble the fan assembly and lightly weld the compressed washer to the fan. With all that vibration it seems like it will just start wiggling around without the welds. Now we know why there are two washers... The first is to be shocked it didn't work and the second is for the actual install lol.. Seems each install requires a fresh washer :p
@TheEZGZ4 жыл бұрын
There shouldn't really be fan vibration! The original fans had balance weights that you could see. It was designed to operate with a max crankshaft RPM of 4,500. The fan turns approx 1.5 times faster 4,500 x 1.5 = 6,750 so if you add a cam and crank it up to 5,500 thats 8,250. Thats why they flex and crack. Thats why racers take the belt off or run a smaller crankshaft pulley. "Power Pulley" This is also way it can help to clean an old dirty fan and why I would not paint the fan. At those RPM's it gets scary. It's also why they weld the fan because the stock one's would come apart.

So glad someone has posted a vid on this subject! I've been concerned about those aftermarket fan hub kits for sometime now a d was wondering if anyone else had ever had issues before with them? We use the stainless strap by Scat a lot and no issues with them to date. But I do look at the spot welds on them and wonder if they would ever pop apart :/ I noticed the centre mount 40IDF on that motor in the back ground and it reminded me that you'd had sone struggles getting one to accelerate smoothly without a flat spot. Believe it or not running the 44IDF with the bigger accelerator pump corrects a lot of the acceleration flat spot to where it accelerates perfectly (However, for motors under 1900cc we found the venturies need to be reduced to something around 28~29mm and rejet). Adding preheat helps too. I hope this helps as a side note and thank for another fantastical informative vid :)

9 shims are required on either side of the pully....Total of 9......3 shims are required on the fan side. if you dont have all the shims. the pully will crack same with the fan if you dont have all the shims the fan will crack.

So which is it?😜 My experience is about 11 shims. On the inside you just need clearance for no fan contact and full support. On the outside you need fanbelt tension and enough threads without bottoming out the nut. New aftermarket is mostly junk.

Let's just say the factory put it on every car they made. It wasn't an optional thing. Gene Berg used to swear by them. Lot's of folks swear at them and don't know how to adjust them. Instead of getting 100k miles from your engine. Maybe you will only get 75k. It depends on how you drive. If you give the engine a chance to warm up before you actually drive it that will help.

I got mine from AA pistions and haven't installed it yet. It does seem to have all the channels inside. I wouldn't spend the money on new powdercoat as eventually it will get scratched anyhow. Rattle can is easy to touch up and I haven't seen the inside rusty due to all the air movement
@paulv84534 жыл бұрын
@@TheEZGZ So which of the 3 would you recommend? OEM used German, Scat, CB Performance or the one from AA Piston?
@TheEZGZ4 жыл бұрын
@@paulv8453 Well, for one thing you didn't what kind of vehicle it was going in or what it would be used for. I made a video of my results. I always choose stock with stock flapps and thermostat for everyday street use in a stock car even if it is a 1915 with Kadrons. OEM is old and worn out. Any brand of new stuff is a gamble and just because you get a good one one time it doesn't guarantee it will be good the next time. If you want a powder coated show car it doesn't matter IMHO because those kind of cars don't get driven much. Recently I drove my Baja over 12k miles in one year. Not many people need to or want to do that. I don't take anything for granted. Every time I get gas or go on a long ride I'm always looking and listening for problems and I seem to find lots of them. If I tell you what to buy and you don't like it I don't want you to blame me. Lately everything I buy is a disappointment.

@@TheEZGZ Hello EZGZ! I really enjoy your channel. I have a 1970 VW Bay Window Campmobile. In the last 10 years, I have only driven it about 1,000 per year. He used to be my daily driver & ONLY vehicle but things have changed. He’s now a weekend warrior. 😀 I do plan on getting back into driving him more often and putting more miles. I want to be able to go long distance from one coast to the other if I want. I live in central Texas where it’s hot most of the time. It doesn’t really get too cold here, maybe in the high 20’s. One engine builder warned me of flaps because they could get stock closed and advised me to just let it warm up for at least 5 minutes before driving. I don’t drive my bus hard.
