Replacing Throttle Controls and Setting Throttle Cable On Older MTD Mower, Similar on Any

Thanks for the fix. I was wondering if the cable was broken in the cable housing n use a mechanic's wire n bend the edges as before. Then you wouldn't had had to replace the throttle mechanism.

what model throttle did you install?

question on the throttle. when you shift it does it controlled two valves to the left. one for fuel and the other air? my ransomes mower is a mess and this is the first video I have seen the same design. I have a lever that connects to an air valve just laying there, looks like it needs to connect to the throttle.

+John Grossi Yeah, but they are actually called plates, you have a throttle butterfly plate and a choke plate, if the choke isn't connected, some times the vacuum will pull it closed and cause them not to run. If i'm testing a engine without the controls hooked up, sometimes i'll put a spring on the choke to hold it open. Hope this helps! Thanks for Watching!!!

question: i do my own work on my mower.one thing i cant seem to figure out (probably a fast and easy fix) is how do i fix throttle on my huskee riding mower? whether it goes up and or down,doesnt matter,its stuck on the same high speed.

Reeda1414 First thing to check is make sure the throttle cable is working, when you move it up and down, you should see the end move where it connects to the throttle setup, if not, the cable is broke or came loose, next thing, is it running at high speed or idle? If its just idling, the governor spring may have broke or came loose, if high speed, then I'd say a linkage got jammed up somewhere. Alot of possibilities, those are the first things that come to mind. Thanks for Watching!!!

the throttle cable on my jd 116 is broken; i'm not sure i'm capable of replacing it; the engine surges but runs; I've fastened it down in the full throttle position; is this eventually going to cause a problem?

Dan Haag I hear ya. Its not that hard to replace a throttle cable / control, i don't see where it would cause a problem, most mowers start full throttle anymore anyways, it should be fine, but I'd suggest fixing it though. Thanks for Watching!!!

What did you mean about cutting the cable. Let's day the cable is too long. First of have to cut the outside spring. Then the inside cable?

It was hard to explain in the video, it would have made it 10 minutes longer if i showed it, what you do is spread the spring looking sheath and snip it, leaving the center cable, then set the control to idle and set the linkage to idle, then cut the cable allowing about a 1/4" for the Z bend, then bend it and it should be close, then adjust it like you would normally with the cable clamp. Next time I have to do it i will make a video on it, its hard to explain certain things without actually doing it. I'm sure there are other videos on how to do this on youtube, I'm pretty sure donyboy73 has a video or 2 on this. Hope i explained it right! Thanks for Watching!!!
