It’s been a year since reporter Deion Broxton captured the moment he locked eyes with a wild bison at Yellowstone Park in Montana and decided to split. Our Inside Edition video with him has been seen more than a million times on KZbin. A lot has happened since then. Broxton says he took a job in Iowa a few months after sharing the video and he recently tweeted that he won an award from the Iowa Broadcast News Association. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more. #InsideEdition

The fact that he walked away from the bison is the reason he lived long enough to receive the journalism award. I would NEVER fault this man for doing what his instincts told him to do!

I'm actually affected by this kind of prejudice. I'm from Laredo,TX so unfortunately I have the Spanish accent which I don't know why when English is my 1st language. I live in Austin and for 10yrs since college I haven't gotten a job cause of my accent. They immediately assume I'm from Mexico and ask I'm legal and if I can speak English even talking to me in Spanish and they get surprised when I tell them I prefer English. Yet I get turned down even though I have a bachelor's degree with jobs of management and creative development for 13yrs. Also cause of my Mexican name. they always end up hiring a white girl. Sadly, I don't even know to beat it. I look up to Guillermo Del Torro and other Hispanic directors who beat the system and over came their accent problems working with the white elite actors and producers.

As a black guy I used to think stuff like this was racist, but in reality they all want you to speak as clear and Understandable as possible. That's why you can barely hear an accent because a lot of people, regardless of race, get speech coaches. The same thing happens with actors and actresses.
