Generally speaking, the bigger the pot, the more likely the tree can grow a large enough root system to support fruit. (This tree could not hold any of the fruitlets that formed last spring.) Containers can work if they're large enough. The Johnny's World channel shows several successful fruiting trees in 24 inch boxes.
