I try quite a lot with different exercises to teach my shoulder blades to move. I know that it’s not only difficult for me to bring them together, but I even just feel them badly, I’m poorly aware of them. After the exercise, I was surprised to note that the back in the thoracic region became more even and a different awareness during breathing, while inhaling, the shoulder blades themselves began to fall down, and they themselves moved in relaxation, without effort. It's amazing, wonderful!

we are culturally trained to view our body as mechanical parts that need fixing, correction from the outside as if fixing a machine, but in reality, all our body parts are connected, body and mind are connected, and they influence each other, move together, and change together. And your body parts are YOU, there's really no fixing of a part. There's only improving YOU as a whole. And, changes happen from the inside. Changes are not done to your body from the outside. That is why it's important for us to learn how to connect with our body, and learn to sense, feel our body, movement from the inside, and learn to improve how we move, use our body in daily activities so we can bring more comfort, ease, confidence into our body. This process can only be done by YOU. That is a fundamental difference between mechanical stretching and strengthening exercises and internal movement practice (where you observe your body and movement from the inside).

Began your guidance in sitting position, observing myself. After exercise; Feel more sturdy and supported in lumbar spine. Breathing more completely, had actually holding breath before to a certain extent. Also automatically lowered ribs into the mat and gently drew in navel in lying position as i began your exercise, because i typically have weakness in that area and go into sway back, which is painful on my back. I would not have been comfortable lying otherwise. I noticed more of this slightly rounded position as I returned to sitting to observe and compare. Takeaway; im slightly holding my breath almost all the time-creating more tension and pulling. Point well made and I thank you.

I always known that I am supposed to breath from my diaphragm not chest but could never do it without concentration. During the exercise I was naturally diaphragm breathing and even now afterwards I am diaphragm breathing. I also feel more stretched out Thanks 👍😀
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
Nice! Breathing happens spontaneously and is influenced by many factors (movements, levels of physical activities, stress, etc), and it is regulated by the nervous system. You can regulate your nervous system, which will regulate your breathing:)
@jmc8076 Жыл бұрын
Taro thx for past video on awareness of pelvic muscles and diaphragm and breath. It helped long time PFD and gen body hypervigilance. Before belly breathing was natural after yrs of practice. Not bad or wrong. Both are still a work in progress. Edit: I was calmer and quieter after breath exercise.
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
My pleasure:) Letting go of expectations, beliefs, and existing knowlege is easier said than done, but connecting with self, sensing own body in the moment can bring the nervous system to a more quiet system from which learning can take place more more efficiently:)

Thank you Taro! Am thinking there is some similar practice that would work on the pain body?
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
this simple lesson can definitely down regulate sympathetic nervous system, up regulate parasympathetic nervous sytem (= calm and relaxed and grounded), and can help you sleep better at night. Body-brain-mind are all connected. Pain is a function of our body system, and there's no difference in improving posture, movement, and pain. Refining quality of movement, breathing, posture will reorganize the brain/nervous system-body all together, and this process will change behaviors of the body including pain.

Will this exercise help to correct neck hump?
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
Yes this movement lesson can help with that. More important thing to know is that correcting any conditions including neck hump requires one to understand their habitual movement patterns in their daily activities, lifestyle and how they are related, then one will begin to understand what it really means to correct their conditions, that is to improve their movement patterns and improve their functions.
