I recently started working at a restaurant and when I said, 'have a good night guys!' to customers as they left, my manager pulled me aside and said, "ya know, you shouldn't say 'guys', believe me, people will get offended." I was floored by that. I still say it out of habit, and have never experienced anyone being offended personally. But it crosses my mind every time I say it now.
