As if an ESRB rating ever stopped younger kids from playing. Also, the "T" rating is more like a "PG-13" film rating - younger kids can play it, it's just suggested that parents use their discretion with children younger than 13.

It was rated 16+ in Europe, but I played it when I was 13 since after finishing the awesome "Emperor's Tomb" I was eager for a similar game. But strange thing is that Emperor's Tomb is rated 13 and feels more violent than this one most of the time: there's stabbing, head shooting, throwing foes down from high edges, and the screams of some enemies when they die sound like they are being tortured. So this rating thing isn't always trustable.

You know, this might have actually worked better in VR. The punching, whipping, plane flying, shooting... Everything movement related would have been better in VR, in 1st person view. You could even reload your gun in VR. It's been done well before, like in Robo Recall and Dead & Buried. An Indiana Jones immersive action VR game. I would buy that.

Do you remember Steel Battalion - Heavy Armor? It was a great game unfortunately weighed down by very broken mechanics because it was a Kinect game. And if you look at how it's played - it's very clear that it would work beautifully as a VR title. Hell, someone's even making something very similar to it in VR called Panzerwehr 1949.

I remember being enamored with the graphics back in the day. I also thought it had a really environmental-based combat system, though they definitely could've spruced that up for the trailers. Not sure why I never actually bothered to but this when it came out.

Staff of Kings was pretty ambitious for the time, with magazines usually talking about all of the different ways you could use the environment to your advantage in combat, the puzzles, and a in-depth combat system to make you feel like Indiana Jones. The technology just really wasn't there in some cases, and they also made some pretty poor design choices (like during the final boss, along with using the Remote and Numbchuck to steer the motorcycle, you'd also have to point at the screen with the Remote to shoot the final boss, making you unable to steer while you're shooting and the ramps love to fling you into the wall if you're not facing the right way; surprised they didn't mention that part since it's easily the worst bit of the game). If I remember right, there was also suppose to have some segments that had you playing out scenes from the original three movies that aren't in the game, but never made it into the game.

Looks aren't everything, unfortunately. This game is no doubt the Tron: Solar Sailer for the Wii. (Solar Sailer was a game for the Intellivision/Intellivoice that had just about the best graphics and music possible for the system, but the gameplay was positively atrocious.)

Honestly, my problem with the game wasn’t memorizing how to do the combat moves, it was getting the one I wanted that was difficult. The fact that there are three kinds of punches makes it easy to do the wrong one and get hit. My strategy for this game was just whip everyone and hope for the best.

I had this on ps2 and I loved it, I still do, I played it again recently and it was still great. I suggest playing it on the ps2 because I played it on the wii also and like these guys said, the motion controls ruin the whole game. On the ps2 its like an actual game, its not glitchy and theres actual death animations! Im sad that they didn't talk about the ps2 version.

@@rerez It's also regularly labeled as a "failure" by a lot of younger folks which is nonsense considering It sold over 80 million units. That's just a few million shy of the 360 and the PS3 and more than the 3DS. Yet because it happened to be up against the DS it will forever be seen by many as a flop. If you were old enough to remember the mid 2000's clearly, the PSP was huge for a solid 3-4 years.

Red Steel 2 and Skyward Sword are also games with well implemented motion controls, although in those two, the controls are much more extensive than something like Wii Sports. Motion controls are only bad went they are poorly implemented (the first Red Steel and Major Minor's Majestic March) or slapped onto a game and given no care (Pitfall the Big Adventure one of the most egregious examples).

Motion controls can work, as long as it's kept simple. Skyward used motion controls perfectly, having only a few simple motions but it uses motion plus to allow for more immersion

Honestly I'd argue that for certain types of games it was more fun/better. Shooters in particular were VERY fun on the wii because using motion controls has a very arcade shooter feel. call of duty black ops on the wii being a great example of this.

I think motion controls would be a little more bearable if the game automatically disabled certain undesirable actions based on context so that you don't accidentally do things you didn't mean to.

Motion controls are great for much more simpler games. However, more demanding games, it falls apart. Honestly, I had my worst experiences in gaming on wii. It worked at first, but then quickly started to show the flaws of it. The only thing it is really good for are simple family games, but that is about it.

Motion controls get an unfair bad rap IMO. When it's USED PROPERLY it can very much enhance the experience. The problem was games using motion controls just for the sake of using motion controls and not because they were useful for what was being done in the game. Motion aiming worked very well for FPS games on the Wii U and Switch, (i.e. Splatoon, Splatoon 2, Fortnite and Overwatch) and it worked okay for Mario Kart and such. There were some games in other categories that used it well as well. TL;DR it's not that motion controls are bad, its that too many games used them badly / for inappropriate things.

Ah man! I remember playing this back in the day and genuinely having fun with it! I don't remember having too many issues with it either. There was one puzzle section towards the end of Panama that really had me stumped. But I do remember having a lot of fun. It really did make me feel like Indy! I think I remember picking it up over the PS2 version because of the motion controls! 😂😂 I've been looking into playing it again, but just haven't done it yet. My sister and I even played some of the co-op sections which were fun too! I never did dive into Fate of Atlantis very far. I almost 100% completed the game too. One of the collectables was glitched and I couldn't get the Han Solo skin. It was a lot of fun back then. Good times.

The mobile versions of this were actually fairly decent. Nowhere near the best Indiana Jones game (that's still Fate Of Atlantis, natch), but alright brawlers. edit: Lol, I should finish videos before commenting :D

I actually remember seeing an ad for this game when I was at my uncle’s house as a kid, in between my cousins playing Portal. That was back early in the 5th grade, just before moving from my Indiana Jones phase to my Star Wars one. Looking back, maybe it was a good thing I did.

Motion controls can be good. They should be used only when they make sense, like pulling a drawer open or aiming an arrow. But there should also be an option to just press a button or move the stick. Some developers are getting it right on switch.
