The way she laid her head on him was so sweet. Cockatoos are wonderful animals, but they're a lot if you don't know what you're getting into. My family adopted a cockatoo who was estimated at 60 years old. She lived probably another five years. I don't know what led to her being put up for adoption, but we did our best to make her happy and comfortable and she was such a sweetheart. I miss her!

If the bird's truly 60, she had probably outlived at least 2 generations of owners. Thank you for letting her lived out her last years with love and affection! :-)

My Mom had 1 that she raised from a baby (chick), and she named her Casey. She cried like my nieces and nephews, a whole repertoire of different types of cries 😭 😅 she sang and danced, especially if you were doing it. My Mom had to find her a temporary place to live when she had to move, but the temporary home got too attached to her, and Mom hasn't been able to get her back. She used to drink my mother's hot tea and sit on the edge of the tea cup. I sent Mom a link so she could see Popeye, and it made her sad because she misses her baby Casey.

You are so spot on. Cockatoo's in particular the white (or umbrella) cockatoo is an awesome pet but can IS a handful. They are children with feathers and if you are not willing to give them the time and attention they require and deserve then you really should not have one. I know this from experience. I live with, I will not say own, an umbrella cockatoo and he demands to be by my side as along as I am at home. He has been with me from the age of six months and he is now almost two. I can honestly tell you that he has taken over my life completely and I would not have it any other way.

~70 year toddlers. Some people can handle that, some can't. Love them if you can, watch videos if you can't. Enjoy these wonderful birds either way.

I would guess that her previous owner passed away and it's their family who put her where she was and they intended to go get her back but never could confidently take on caring for her. She's in the right home forever now. But often they out live their owners.

I think the way she had her wings clipped and was possibly kept in a small cage. She is far better off. My male eclectus had his wings clipped. He now lives in a large aviary with my other parrots. And can fly all day. Would love to train them in free flight at some point.

I have a sulphur crested cockatoo like this. He is incredibly smart and affectionate. I have had him for 40 years and he is a wonderful companion and my best friend. The personality of these beautiful creatures is amazing.

A million Thank You’s to your family. I live about 60km’s from the Sydney CBD. The sulphur crested Cockatoo’s are around in their hundreds. They are also close to the city. We adore them. They will find a tree in the early evening, making a huge amount of noise about it. Watching them fly over is spectacular. There are selected up to three cockatoo’s for sentry duty at the top of the tree. With my binoculars I can often see that they sleep on the job. Other than humans they don’t have a predator. They make us laugh everyday with their acrobatics. To adopt a rescue is like having a two to three year old child forever. They live long lives and usually have an attachment to one person, in your case your husband. 🕊️🇦🇺😀🏡

Beautiful birds with lots of character. We had one for 40 years. Was supposed to be a male but laid an egg when "he" was about 5 😅 Love seeing them play in the wild (I am in Australia and we have lots of cockatoos around our house). They really know how to play!

As an Australian it’s so sad to see a cockatoo kept inside, here they live in the wild in large flocks & are highly social with their groups & mate for life. We see them all the time, it’s a beautiful site to see them in the trees or on the ground looking for food, always screeching, & interacting with each other. The illegal bird trade of these highly intelligent birds is a disgrace especially as they’re use to living free in large social groups.
