Күн бұрын

Hello and welcome to eBay Miniature Rescues! This week I received a model and painting challenge from Brent over at Goobertown Hobbies. The idea is to paint this Sisters of Battle Exorcist Tank with a vibrant color from the color wheel and completely avoid red. It was an interesting challenge and I tried to, and in Goobertown tradition, push myself by using new products and techniques! Brent sent me this model but he got it from a guy named Chris Price who unfortunately passed away. His family put his collection onto craigslist and Brent was fortunate enough to get the lot of it. With this challenge comes some weight, and in the end I feel like it's more about having a painted playable model on the table that someone would be happy to use, something that you can gather together for and make memories with. Thank you Goobertown Hobbies for including me in Chris' story, and thank you for the amazing collaboration video!
If you reached the end of this description I would ask that you send some love to Brent over Goobertown Hobbies, and if you would, please leave a candle in the comments for Chris.

OUTSTANDING video, you really brought honor to this tank- it makes me so happy to see it finally get painted :-) I'm glad we could get some 40k on the channel, this is a very strong entry into the 41st millennium! I love that you played around with some new techniques here, the weathering is awesome- so many layers! The oranges/ browns /coppers go really well with the greens, excellent choice! Ahhh, and now I understand the game that I was playing with the mini that you sent me! It was Goobertown Roulette the whole time!!! Thanks for an excellent collaboration!!! :-) -Brent

For sure! Nobody’s perfect and sometimes plans change right in the middle of painting, I’ve seen really good painters stop and strip a model or part just because whatever they are doing isn’t working. One of the best parts of this hobby is that it’s never permanent, as much as we would like it to be sometimes, we can always strip the model down to plastic and try again :)

I love your videos, you are a very talented person. On this occasion I am not at all certain about the copper/brass colouring which - for me at least - just does not sit well with the vibrant greens, but that is just a matter of opinion. What is not in dispute is that you have turned this into a model most games would be proud to own.

Thanks for good honest feedback :) I was toying with maybe going bright silver, but in the end I think I went for copper because of my personal taste for it(I don’t know if I’ve made a video without it lol). If this weren’t a painting challenge type of video I probably would have painted this super traditionally, I’ve always liked the SoB colors :)

Interesting choice of colours. I am in no way an authority in painting, however, in my opinion there are several of missed opportunities on the Exorcist Tank model. So much more you can do! The missile launching Pipe organ, to me, should be a solid metallic colour. Each pipe launches missiles, so burnt metal effects, bluing or some other distressed barrel effects would be great to apply on here on the ends of the organ. Boltgun Metal or Gold would suffice. A gold pipe with a blackened tube would be pretty cool. Gold works with everything, really. There are several accents on the model, such as a censer strapped to the front plate of the Exorcist tank. It is a seperate piece and not attached to the stonework or statue attachments of the tank. I think you can spot it on your title card. It's a little orb on the tank's left side underneath the visor (or if you're looking at it straight on it's on your right). It's used to burn incense. The Purity seals. There are several, if not hundreds, of colours the seals could be painted. The parchment could be browned a touch darker than the other parts of the statues? The wax could be a dark, waxy green? Maybe a waxy blue perhaps? Then, to tie them all off you could use a fine brush to brush on 'writing' for the purity seals. It would make the model really pop in my opinion. Purity seals are a big deal in Warhammer 40,000! But, if you're not an expert in 40K (I don't think anyone really is as there is just so much stuff to try and remember) I understand. Just a minor critique, but I think a tad more detail would give it that extra edge on the table and stand out even more than the green!
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I pretty much agree with you on most everything here, and I intend to continue to take this tank beyond this result. As far as being an expert, you’re right, no one really is, but this is the first 40k model I’ve painted in 20 years lol, I even forgot what a purity seal was called, I had to look it up lol. I tried to keep a lot of the accents like the seals and skulls as part of the ‘stonework’ for now so I could finish this model for the collaboration. There is so much on this model that I could legitimately spend 3 or 4 weeks just painting this, which is something I love about this model. I like the ideas you presented and will likely include some. The metallic stress was something I really wanted to fit into this one, I did it on some guns a few weeks ago and really liked the result, so that was something that was a bit of a bummer. Anyways, thanks for watching and thank you for the feedback!

Cool tank! Nice to see that the memory of it's owner will also live on. Gives it a story... that doesn't involve some spoiled brat getting bored and tossing it in a closet. I've seen it happen to toys and models. My uncle used to have a bunch of the magazines for warhammer back in the 90's, never saw this gem. That is why I enjoy watching you's guys videos! Have you ever adapted non-fantasy, cheap, dollar store toys (bagged army men, cowboys & indians, etc...) to D&D or Warhammer? What am I asking, you probably have. I first started watching Miniature Mash up because I wanted to get into the hobby/game, but I am right at the edge of broke right now. Those videos took me around to Bard's Craft, your pal at GooberTown, Table Ready Gaming... you all rock! I've been ingesting these videos en mass and I like all the build and paint "tutorials?" they are informative, entertaining and give me ideas to try when I'll finally get things done around the house.

Yeah, too many times you get the spoiled kids that throw away expensive toys just to move onto the newer and shinier ones. Good opportunity to savage something and convert it though :) When I was younger I used to use army men to try and hobby with, they would be stand ins for the models I couldn’t afford. As well as Christmas decorations for terrain lol. There are a lot of awesome channels for this hobby right now, it’s been fun seeing so many people get into it. @@eBayMiniatureRescues I wish I had foresight to use my toy army men... most of them got melted or bashed... still find parts where the "battles" took place. Almost like I am on one of those war excavation channels when I dig in the back yard... I got off topic. I could have gotten a lot of practice working with those. Still can if I find enough parts and some of the survivors still in storage. At the very least I can buy and build my own now. The joys of being an adult! I have been trying to find a small Santa and some reigndeer to turn into something since it is Christmas and I see a lot of people using Halloween stuff. Squidmar, I think I might have subscribed. I actually have done that with many channels where I'll watch video after video then find that I hadn't actually subscribed like a month or so later. I need to go check, thank you for reminding me! I've got cheap paints and model paints around, but I've been thinking of trying out my sharpies when I finally get started on this stuff. If this comment seems a bit scrambled, I have mild ADD and the caffiene just kicked in. 🤪 Today's gonna be a good day! Can't even keep a conversation straight.

Richard Orta Richard Orta haha no worries man, I can’t say that anybody in this hobby could ever be considered normal! I have found that the community at large is pretty great! I do the same thing sometimes, I’ll watch a video and mean to subscribe only to find out I haven’t for months lol. The videos keep popping up in my feed so I just assume I did. Sharpies are a good way to do trim especially, the metallics are very useful. No worries on being scrambled, I’m following you :) glad to have you here!

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Normal is overrated anyway. I already have a list of all the stuff I want to try... And it keeps growing. I'll keep the sharpies in mind for trim. I plan on doing a bunch of the DIY models with my son when he comes to visit. He likes monsters. I am also looking forward to my cousin's baby getting older. I know I'll end up having to baby sit or at least help at some point and having activities to do helps. Anyway, you have a good day! I have to get busy again. Catch you latet

That green and orange definitely says Chaos all day long lol. Brent definitely made it hard for me to paint it traditionally. I think even using the white was breaking the rules. Your OK with spray painting, I did see you get run areas from going to heavy, your weathering is great but you count on washes for your Detail work, detail work which is what really brings out a mini. Not sure who would want a green sisters of battle tank for there army though.

Dude, i'm really sorry but i can't grant you a thumbs up for this piece based on the color scheme. I am very partial to the Sisters and to the fluf of 40K and this paint scheme screams either Nurgle or Necrons. To me, the purity of the Sisters is very strong, located squarely between that of the glorious Space Marines and the hallowed Grey Knights. That being said, can't wait to see the next piece.

Thanks for being honest! It was an interesting challenge to try and paint this tank under the color restrictions set by Brent. Definitely not a Sisters theme, but hey, a fun bit of painting :) I’ll be working on more sisters in the future for sure, probably under more normal circumstances!

Like the colors a whole lot, the green contrasting the copper looks awesome, not a fan of the out of place blue though. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, it doesn't look natural, but neither does it make sense for anyone to add it afterwards, might just be me though. Anyways, really awesome job.
@eBayMiniatureRescues

Thanks! And thanks for the feedback about the color, I always appreciate honest constructive feedback! The bluish color is supposed to be patina from the copper, might be a little bright to be realistic, but I personally like the more cartoony look for my models. Of course, if you were to copy the colors you could skip that or just go for a more realistic look.

just an idea mate, have you tried using methylated spirits for stripping plastic or metal miniatures. I have found that is works better than soaking in simple green (I haven't yet bought an ultrasonic cleaner) but soaking overnight in metho seams to get up most of the paint(including primer).
@eBayMiniatureRescues

I’ve been told about them, haven’t had the chance to try them yet. The sonic cleaner makes real quick work using LA’s Totally Awesome! I stripped the tank in about 20 minutes. Using the sonic cleaner with a stronger solution should improve the cleaning on metals, I’ll have to try it and see what the difference is :) Thanks for the tip!
