looks great... but I don't like how everyone uses nihilakh oxide on iron/steel. It doesn't look realistic, rust isn't blue. oxidation of copper/bronze it's great for
@DMNKLR_official5 жыл бұрын
That's the only thing I dislike about this one. Different metals oxidize differently, and none of them oxidize as both patina and rust. The chemical breakdowns are very different, and as you said, it doesn't look right when mixed like this.
@deviantpersona5 жыл бұрын
@@DMNKLR_official yeah... I've only ever seen copper and bronze patina, ever... and that's just due to the copper content in bronze. and having worked with a ton of heavy equipment, I've never seen patina on rusted iron/steel. plus, I hate when people add rust to moving parts on miniatures/models like tanks and planes. if it moves like pistons, it is less likely to rust unless constantly exposed even if the rest of the machine is a rust bucket...
@DMNKLR_official5 жыл бұрын
Very true. When I weather anything mechanical, I always take implied functionality levels into consideration, and use real-life examples for reference. Heavy machinery definitely gets rusty, but only on stationary components, such as steel plating, on the outside body panels, on a crane, backhoe, tank, etc. Anywhere that has lots of consistent movement will remain "clean" & polished, usually with grease and/or oil.

sorry another question, how do you know when youv'e thinned too much? having trouble finding the proper consistancy and then I put it on the model and it looks bad or maybe too thin wet, so I panic and wipe it off lol
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Lol I’ve been there. It just depends on what you are trying to do. Really thin dirty paint water is great for glazing onto a mini over many thin layers in order to tint the underlying color towards the dirty paint water color. For general layering though you just want enough water mixed in so it sticks in your brush and flows onto your pallet nicely. If it’s too thin then it will break up on your pallet and you will need to add more paint. Just load up your brush and test it first, a lot of people use their hand as a test, the pallet, some paper. Each color is slightly different, so it’s something you just get used to over time. The warhammer official KZbin channel does pretty good at demonstrating the consistency of paints in their videos. Probably the best I’ve seen for showing up close is Pete the Wargamer, his videos are also excellent :)

I run Vallejo flow improver through the pot before I load the primer, I don’t usually have any problems if I do that. I don’t leave any in the pot when I put the primer in, just let it run over the needle. I also set my psi to 30/35 so it’s coming out pretty strong for priming.

@cmakowka5 жыл бұрын
how do you remove the model from the square base without damaging them?
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
It depends, if the glue isn’t so thick then they just pop off, sometimes it is really thick and you have to cut away the base entirely and start over. In this particular case, because the round base size is quite a bit larger than the square, you can get away with just putting basing materials around it to blend it in. It gives a little height to this model and the square base can still be used.

So do you buy minis, paint them then resell them? does that work well for you?
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Not on a regular basis, if I get something in a lot of minis that I don’t want or need, then I’ll sell it to just get some of my money back. Overall, I don’t think it’s a very good business model, there’s too much volatility to reliably find and flip models. This is more of a special case, I own a Lord of Plagues already and I figured it would be kind of cool to have a figure in your collection that had a story to go with it. It was also to potentially help with funding these videos. I am going to sink %100 of it back into new (used eBay) models :) I do commissions occasionally, very occasionally, and that’s a much better trade for time. It’s way more stable as far as a business and you have a lot more control over the time you are spending on something. If you don’t mind, can I use a screengrab of your question in a future video? I hope that answers your question :)

It’s definitely a cartoony style sculpt, the Putrid Blightkings are a similar looking sculpt to this one but the weapons are more to scale. That being said, I really like cartoony sculpts :)

Amazing! I still think you should do a military model. An old biplane or tank would be so good.

How much would a painted mini that's actually painted pretty well cost? I love the Warhammer universe, but I cannot paint for shit.

It depends on the model, if it needs building, cleaning, that sort of thing. This model in particular would run you around $80-150 from most online commission studios. I also do commissions if you are interested, just email me and we can talk :) Ebayminirescues@gmail.com
