Hi Everyone! 2 things: 1. We recorded a small section addressing the discourse online about the lack of Afro-Indigenous representation in Reservation Dogs and I felt what we said wasn't good enough to educate. I should have invited an Afro-Indigenous guest on to help share perspective and be a voice. Rather than to cram it into a small mention, I'm planning to do an Afro-Indigenous themed episode to help educate myself and others, since really up to this point, I had no idea there was an issue among our Black Native relatives (with not being acknowledged as Native or erasure of culture/fighting for recognition) since they too are apart of our Indigenous communities. 2. We have episodes planned for next month Native American Heritage Month so be on the look out!

Yes! There's this droll observational bent to Native humor that is wickedly sharp and funny. It's one of the things I loved about Lou Diamond Phillip's character (Henry Standing Bear) in Longmire, and to see so many facets of Native humor in this show was a true delight. It gave the whole series such a distinct voice (instead of just one character).

Hey, I'd like to see a show on Natives who live in the city. The different issues we have as opposed to living on the Rez. Issues like Ceremonies, speaking our language, riding your horse down Main Street, your unregistered no tags Rez Dog get out and is running around in town, waiting for that per capita check and they keep mailing it to the wrong address! Your car keeps breaking down on the freeway....and all this was on a good day! We can call it "Reservation Cats"

Just hope really. Hope, goals and drive are all that is really needed for anyone looking to be pseudo successful. I shouldn't be typing this I have little hope, no real goals and to many random interests to ever have the drive to pursue one. Hope is big though. When you lose your dreams you're lost.

@@Thulgore Wow, those are powerful words. Those words came from a deep, dark, lonely place within your soul. I know where these words hide. Sometimes jus having hope. goals and the drive isn't enough. Sometimes we become our #1 enemy. We fear success. So, we find ways of jeopardizing our plans. Tell me about yourself. What are your many interests? Are you Native also? If you are, what Tribe?

Not to take away from your comment. I fully agree with you. One of the big problems that seems to have occurred with white people (myself being one) is that we don't have an actual culture. Look back to where your family came from and you find culture. Everyone, including the history books usually only focuses on wars, hatreds and grudges. That can't be how people lived their day to day lives though. Go back further and try to find how those people looked at things before they knew they were a "country". Everyone is just people. Nothing more nothing less. Almost everything else is either an illusion or a hatred based solely on not understanding one another. Almost no one screaming nationalism is a national. FFS Hitler wasn't German.
@eituyn
@eituyn 2 жыл бұрын
@@Thulgore I appreciate what you are saying, but I think I'd disagree. Or perhaps I don't fully understand what you mean by culture. I wouldn't consider myself a world traveler but I have been around the states a bit. I've been to England, France, and Canada. Each place has it's culture. If you mean that white people don't have a very centralized location where their culture sprang, from I'd agree. But to say there is none, I'm not sure how you'd come to that. You have Viking culture, Monk culture, Saxon culture, and they are all different. You have white French culture which is significantly different than white English or that of whites in the US. I really enjoy cultures of all types. Customs, ideologies, and histories are fascinating. I'm also white. If someone were to ask me what my cult has been like I'd say loving, reconciliatory, duty, work hard, big birthday parties, family holidays. We have traditions. We have clothe styles. It's funny because even writing this there is a fear in me as white person that someone may say I'm racist because I'd even suggest that white people have culture and are also human. But hopefully equality can be equality for everyone. It reminds me of one of Malcom X's speeches. He said "Until the white man and the black man (he used slang I will not, out of respect) can sit together and a table and each speak without fear there can be no equality.". I'm a huge believer in that. But now I digress. I hope you're having good day!

Despite breaking ground on Native Representation, Reservation Dogs is one of the best written shows I have seen in quite a while. The character development does not feel forced or thrown in at the last minute. I like how each character is profiled in their own episode while still advancing the story line as well as serving to provide exposition of past events. I can't wait for the new season. I hope they double the number of episodes

Greetings from Germany. I've watched every bit of Rez dogs on KZbin i could get my hands on. Even if i understood only half of the jokes, it was an eye opener. Many europeans see Natives still as Savages wearing leggins, breach clothes, feathers, hunting buffalo with bow and arrow, and living in teepees. Rez dogs show that they are just normal modern people, living normal lives, but having often very special problems because they are Natives! I hope i see some more of it! Stay strong out there!

We humans were once (and some still are) living in a relationship with nature. We believed we had a duty to care for and protect life. Today most people believe we have the right to master (enslave) life. We believe people living the old way are savages and we are intelligent ....all while we are destroying the life /the planet on which we depend.

My husband is Native (I am white) and we have very little cultural difference honestly. We live in a pretty average suburban neighborhood, he works at an optometrist office in an administrative position, he loves video games, and when we get together with friends (including other Natives) we are typically playing board games or D&D. There are for sure Natives who live on reservations and have similar experiences to Rez Dogs, but there are also plenty of Natives who just go about their life the same way any other average American of any race might. What I’m really trying to say is that Natives aren’t some mystical, mysterious beings, they are literally just ordinary people who have wide a variety of ways of living/ experiences, just like any other people. Also agree with the sentiment of the previous person who replied on this that even Natives who still live a more traditional lifestyle aren’t “savages” or bad in any way. They just live life the way they best see fit, which everyone should have the right to do (so long as it doesn’t cause harm to others).

Season 2, eh...when I lived on the reservation I heard a heartwarming story about how the Little People rescued a woman (a white woman, not from the rez) who had been beat up bad and left for dead...they nursed her back to life so that she could then walk to the police office and tell them who did this...before she left they told her not to tell anyone where theyʻd taken her for healing, because nobody could find them...so, the Little People would be one... my tribal college history teacher told our class about his dad, how he was stolen from his parents when he was 8 years old, taken to the mission school in the middle of Nebraska and "educated" for ten years...then came back home...meanwhile his parents thought he had died and grieved him...they had no idea what had happened to him...they were shocked when he returned...so, boarding schools and the horrors that surround boarding schools...and how stealing the children from the reservations was common, and intentional, meant to drive the families insane from the not knowing, and steal the childrenʻs history, culture, language, knowledge, stories, families, and birthright from them... how the land was stolen right out from under the Indian families in the 1910s because a) they didnʻt pay property tax on the land because b) they didnʻt know about this and c) couldnʻt read English and d) nobody explained this to them so e) they defaulted through no fault of their own and lost their land...talking Winnebago and Omaha Reservations in particular...probably many other reservations as well...this is the kind of stuff nobody knows about. Nobody talks about. Probably the kids of this generation donʻt know, donʻt care, just accept things for what they are. I actually went to the courthouse and spent time looking up deeds, trying to make sense of things I didnʻt know when I lived there. And Iʻm just gettinʻ started.

Thank you for coming :) Thanks to people like you and Patrick (Navajo Grandma and Navajo Traditional Teachings are great channels, too) I learn about life in America much more than from 'big' US channels. Earlier I thought that in America TV is the same as public TV and radio in Russia, with language diversity and representation of indigenous population without stereotypes, with films made by and starring indigenous actors (in indigenous languages, esp. Yakutian). In my country I can easily find a concert of a Tuvan throat singing band or an interview of a famous reindeer herder from Yamal peninsula. But TV and the whole of the cultural scene in the US turned out to be so different, and that was so strange. May be I don't know some really interesting US TV channels (just because I live in Russia), but so far I haven't find anything worth watching. But thanks to you, Patrick and other enthusiasts I learn about real America and feel that it's a living land, not just a bunch of skyscrapers.

I kind of picture a day in the life of Lil Mike and Funny Bone where not only are we given insight into what they do and where they go, but also that in the background, you have the lead characters getting into and out of trouble, causing havoc, etc., but without any exposition of just what the heck they're up to. In the foreground, Lil Mike and Funny Bone are freestyling, in the background, you see Bear and Elora trying to run while carrying a big cooler between them, Willie Jack jogging behind while texting, and several beats later, Cheese running after them.

Howdy! I just saw my first video of your content, gentlemen-the one on the white bison-boy at the Capitol insurrection. 2nd vid here. I had to rewind to watch the mischievous-but-innocent grin of a 5 year old the first man with braids and hat shot at the camera as he got reprimanded by the ladies. Then, with the eyes in the nostril-faced war cry, I laughed so fast and hard, coffee shot out my nose. I appreciate how seamlessly and effortlessly you move from humor to very serious and important topics such as indigenous representation in the film industry. It’s a very fine and well executed balance in which the medicine of laughter breathes in the more deep and profound issues so they may be absorbed, pondered, grow to change and action from that planted seed resting in fertile soil, watered by truth and facts, nourished by the sunlight of laughter. Bravo. Thank you. 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️

As a native we don’t need “recognition” from our oppressors and we don’t need to be “represented” in this “programming propaganda” I’m glad to see shows with real natives. But if you notice our “real native reality” is a far cry from our greatness. We need to wake up and take our culture back. We need to heal physically (no hot chitos and Pepsi” to heal our land. We have been corrupted and filled with toxins. Wake up!!!!

The subject of the Trail of Tears and how all were uprooted and forced to move. As an outsider I imagine this has shaped so much of their spirit. Made it stronger and clearer. I imagine that it would be in conversations as matter of factly. Hell. Anything you put out there I will love!!! 💪🏽✊🏽👍🏽🤎🥰

I would like to see them explore the protector/vigilante idea a bit more. I would like to see them be more cutting edge with generational trauma, alcoholism and the parochial schools. But basically don’t change a thing. It’s all brilliant!!

Natives/Indigenous people are beautiful people. I live in a small SoCal town full of a tribal community with a rez. They deserve more recognition and they definitely deserve not to be stereotyped. It is wonderful to see them in their own light, their way. Much respect to all tribes, the true OG’s of this land. I hope one day everyone shows the respect that is deserved

The best thing about this show is it doesn't feel like you are watching a bunch of actors playing characters. It feels like I'm watching these actors, engaging in their normal lives (with the added bonus of some fun fantasy elements mixed in). Also Aunties Let Loose was one of the funniest episodes of TV I have ever seen.
