Happy Wednesday! Comment with your favourite motivating music (upbeat, relaxing or good for concentration), your go-to meditation or exercise app, cozy book podcast, etc. (Myself, I'm very partial to a bit of old-school Chicago house music!) And thank you so much for all the brilliant meal suggestions yesterday...I think I am all set for the year ahead! LOL!

Yoga with Adriene (youtube channel) is always good when I need a 10-20 minute focus on my body. I have saved about a dozen of her videos from which I choose based on how my body feels. I've been surprised by how much better I can feel after just 10 minutes of careful stretching.

Diane, this is wonderfully inspiring series! I am a full time caregiver for my husband and I have gotten some new ideas for being more aware of adding self care to my daily schedule since it usually gets woefully neglected in the vicious cycle of caregiving. Having my routines have made it possible to keep my head above water during turbulent times and I get so much inspiration to keep up with my routines by watching your videos. Looking forward to seeing what's going to be in tomorrow's Virtual (Re) Treat video! Wishing you a wonderful day!

Hi Patricia, Make sure you reach out to others to help shoulder caregiving duties. Most people are willing to help but just need to be told a specific task they can help with. I really liked hearing about the three diagnostic themes: too much stuff and overwhelm; insufficient structure and lack of control; or, daily joy and balance missing. These themes really resonate with me, so I'm going to reflect on them today. I enjoy playlists from the late 80s and 90s when I want some motivation, not dissimilar to yours. They seem to remind me of a time when I naturally had a lot of energy. I'm really interested to read some of the suggestions for concentration. If my mind wants some calm and sometimes to focus I really like putting on a KZbin 'rain track'. The white noise seems to really help my concentration. Keep on keeping on - here's a Pom Pom salute to the best motivator on the web🎉🎉🎉

my favorite "music" most days is to listen to nature ambiance videos. Some days I'm in a beachy ocean waves mood, or else a forest with birds chirping and a running river. Maybe a mountain retreat with a crackling fire and rain/thunder outside. Or, if I'm feeling a bit sassier, I go for a coffee shop vibe with clinking cups, soft background buzz, and jazz music. Thank you for this series!

Also, we plan to spend 6 mths in the remote NT in 2023 and I just booked us a 12 night NZ cruise for Mar 2024, so looking forward to that too. I am easily keeping house with my flylady routines, I volunteer at hospital 2 days a week, having bbq catchup with friends, doing card classes, enjoying my vegie garden. You were and still are my rock , but you are also so much fun to be around 😃 now to get down to business: definitely check out Andrew Johnson for meditation and meditation apps (Relax, Change, Create is what it's called), he is a Scott and a very good teacher with an amazing voice, but what I love most about him is how down to earth, kind and funny he is in person. For meal planning, I have several fast solutions based ongo-to items I always keep on hand. 1. Pre-washed salad greens plus either canned salmon or sardines or oysters, plus avacado mayo and embellishments like celery, nuts or seeds, dried cranberries or grapes, seasonings, avacado; 2. frozen vacuum-sealed chicken or pork (that can rapidly defrost in a pan of water) plus fresh or frozen vegetables and a sauce made from a can of coconut cream and curry spices; 3. Chili from vacuum packed ground meat, jar of tomato sauce, can of diced tomatoes, can of beans, fresh onions and mushrooms and other goodies like black olives or artichoke hearts; 4. And easiest of all, frozen steak, fresh mushrooms to make a sauce with the beef fond, and salad greens with fresh vegetables. There is infinite variety of substitution to suit seasonality and mood. My inspiration is to just get things done so I can get outside in this beautiful weather. I just relax with the sounds of waves and birds and wind. And the warmth of the sun is rejuvenating. Mi Siesta! ⛱⛱⛱⛱⛱⛱⛱⛱⛱

I appreciate the self check ups, Diane. The take your temperature every morning. It makes me aware of myself. The things I use to help motivate me as far as podcast goes is Sally Clarkson's podcast (I can't remember what it is actually called), but she really just encourages me. And then I will do upbeat music or worship music or just instrumental. I like listening to Joel Clarkson on spotify. Some of his selections from a book he read, and made the music for, come up, and they can be very uplifting. I also like songs from the Peanuts movie, such as I'm Happy When I'm Dancing (even though I really am not a good dancer!). I am still discovering what I like in musicland. I also like audio books at times. I just listened to one called "This Beautiful Truth", which hit on someone who had OCD, but looking for beauty. I really appreciated that book. There was an app that I just remembered when you said find something to help your mind, that Caroline Leaf mentioned in one of her books (which are other books I feel help me a lot). I am going to look that up and start doing that again. I forgot how much it helped me. Found it! It's called Soultime.

Some favorite songs are oldies, 90's music and R&B , gospel, and Motown. Lizzo songs are upbeat!

Thank you for this series, Diane! Hope you feel better tomorrow. Something I like to listen to when I need to focus while writing is a youtube video that just has the bleeps and bloops from the Star Trek bridge. It’s just a whooshing white noise with blips in it and is random enough for my brain to not pay any attention and it helps me focus!

I love oldies, 90s summer hits and show tunes so I can sing along! It always picks me up and science would say that it tones the vagus nerve which calms our nerves.

My absolute favorite podcast to nourish my mind is “Nothing Much Happens”. She tells wonderful cozy stories. I use them to help fall asleep or to relax during the day. She also has a great meditation podcast with 10min mediations called “First This”. For some motivation to get up and do something I really “Can’t stop the feeling” from Justin Timberlake. Always puts a smile on my face.

I have been working a bit more even though I am a casual worker. Others have been on vacation. I missed the first part of the daily challenges. I am glad to have a couple of days off to catch up on things at home and to get to relax a little bit. Thinking of music, there are some cool Co workers, especially one of the cooks, who likes to play rock music and songs from the '80's. Music gets me going and working faster. :) I am going to make that Doctor's appointment and try my best to get things done and also make time for fun and relaxation. We always have our little dogs to get us out for exercise. Thanks so much for the motivation and encouragement.

If I want to chill I listento thunderstorm CDs which often have nature sounds mixed in. If I need a pick-me-up I listen to Big Band ones or Sleepless in Seattle; or Forrest Gump. I enjoy all the episodes of The Chosen (on its own free app or KZbin) over and over.

The Chosen is my favorite thing to watch! I'm looking forward to the release of Season 3, hopefully in November! I watch Seasons 1 & 2 over & over again, too! 😍

I like the simply hypnotic YT channel ..for inspiration and just to relax. I love this series, and I thank you for continuing to inspire and motivate us, because you sure do! I thought I had it together but this little exercise has shown me that I lack self care...my house looks great, I , on the other hand, do not. and I feel it. Going to do a page for self care today. Love from AZ😎💙

When I'm in a calmer mood and doing housework, I like to put on Lofi music (the Chillhop channel is my favorite). But when I need to get things done with a bit more vigor, I'll put on music that's nostalgic for me to sing to (Stiff Little Fingers, Clash, Bad Religion, etc)...less calming but makes doing housework more fun haha.

Those menopausal blahs are real! Hope they pass quickly Diane. My favorite music is contemporary Christian music & 70’s music.

Yes! Loved the three themes of disharmony. I think it’s not just the way you encourage Diane, it’s also the way you break things down and make it simple - even easy! I like to listen to big epic (mostly) instrumental film scores when I need extra boost - my favourite composers are Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, James Horner, Ramin Djawadi. Songs with words I just start singing along and looking up lyrics on my phone. 😆

You are a great inspiration Diane. I live with my husband and adult boys in a fairly disfunctional household. Cleaning and decluttering have become my mantras. Maybe if everything is clean then everyone will get along…so now I’ve begun to focus on me! Every day at 4 pm, I put aside everything and meditate for a bit with the Insight Timer app. A great pick me up before dinner prep.
