James reviews 2002's Resident Evil. Based on the video game series, Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez star as the leaders of a commando team who must break into "the hive," a vast underground genetics laboratory operated by the powerful Umbrella Corporation. There, a deadly virus has been unleashed, killing the lab's personnel and resurrecting them as the evil Un-dead. The team has just three hours to shut down the lab's supercomputer and close the facility before the virus threatens to overrun the Earth. The film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson.

could not agree more. I use it in my dnd games to build suspense, and it always convey urgency that something really bad is about to happen at any second. at the same time is the underrated part because even though everyone I play it to, loves it, they can never place it. and that's a little sad.

When i was younger, i loved this movie, but as an adult, i look back and realize how bad it really was, it was more of a generic zombie flick than an actual Resident Evil film, outside of it being set in Raccoon City and referencing Resident Evil set pieces, it had really no attachment to the Resident Evil series, i know it wanted to tell it's own story and shy away from the games, but in the end i think that hurt the film more than not.
@gromse5616
@gromse5616 3 жыл бұрын
I had the same experience. I loved it as a kid but after watching it recently, I realized it is kind of bad. The action is cheesy, the zombies are lame, and the characters are as shallow as a puddle. Had a ton of potential though. Being trapped in an underground facility with hundreds of zombies, monstrous lickers, and a murderous AI all with a time limit before it blows up was a great premise, shame it went to waste.

There's a huge mistake here: the Lickers are product of the t-Virus not the G-virus, as a reference William Birkin was the only one infected with the G. The Lickers are actually some sort of evolution of the zombie + Crimson Head chain. So in this case is not bad to include Lickers in the movie. :)

It does have an excellent soundtrack at least, with the Marilyn Manson input creating some iconic and memorable tracks in the film. Also, side fact, but during one of the clips here Bionic Jive's "Swarm" is used for that particular trailer. It's how I discovered them, mixing rap and metal in a pretty effective manner. Some catchy tunes on their "Armageddon Through Your Speakers" album if I do say so myself.

Common misconception. There is a process called "V-ACT" which is mentioned in re1 remake. Under certain levels of damage, an infected zombie may undergo a process in which the virus causes a mutation. Each strain of virus is different and causes a different mutation. The virus in the Spencer mansion was T-Epsilon, or the Epsilon strain. The "V-ACT" reaction from epsilon caused the crimson head mutation. The strain released from birkin's lab would create Lickers. The Regis Licker is described as a rare mutation and is not actually a half way point to a licker. Each mutation is its own thing based on the virus strain within the infected host. This is all information within several extraneous lore books released by capcom, such as biohazard archives.
