Do a Silent Hill2,3 and 4... Altho for SH2 in order to get the best visuals out of the game without modding it you need to do some tricks to turn ON the advanced filters which has proven to be a pain for many PC configurations.

You forgot to mention that you CAN actually play with just a GC or classic controller on the Wii if you don't fancy motion controls. To me, the Wii version is the best because of that. Great video!

I was very impressed, when I found out, that the cutscenes in the Gamecube version were actually rendered in realtime. And they still look amazing. While the PS2 version used recorded footage.

The GC cutscenes (and Wii) look so amazing to this day, because of the gorgeous post processing effects (depth of field, bloom, motion blur) that no other version retained (ps3, ps4, Switch, 360, all have the effects removed).

Love this channel. Helps me decide on which versions I should ultimately collect over another. Probably will pick this up for PS2 in the meantime until I can find a cheap enough GCN version. After watching several videos I'd say its safe to sub! Keep up the good work man. I also kinda wished this had been released for the OG Xbox considering it was the beefier console of 6th gen. I play almost all my 6th gen multiplats on that system because they look better and in some cases have better fps. Darn licensing. Such a shame.

According to #CensoredGaming, Resident Evil 4 was heavily censored in Japan. In the West (U.S.), it was completely uncensored. But its strange that the English version managed to get away with a 15+ rating (It was uncensored also). Due to the Computer Entertainment Ratings Organization, or CERO of 2002 in, had restrictions of what certain content had not to be shown in Japan (shown of Decapitation when Leon blowing the enemies heads off). The German Version did not have Japanese censorship, but Assignment Ada and The Mercenaries were completely removed in the German Version. But in early of last year, Resident evil 4 was removed from the German Harmful Media list.

Fun fact: the HD versions are just the Gamecube upscaled, you can see it in Dolphin emulator, upscale the game to 1080 and you'll have the exact same game as the PS4 and Xbox One ones

Yes is True. Game Cube had a native effects hardware, that's why was easy to developed realistic games for Game Cube and explain why Metroid Prime looks better than Hallo. Fire and Hot distortion, water effects, 3d fogs, Iron shines, and others, all natives in CC.

I remember being so damn hyped for this on GCN. Had that old red tin Collector's Edition from Gamestop. Bought it for PS2, then Wii, PS3, and of course PS4. How was the footage recorded for these? It appears the PS4 version was not recorded in 1080P (even if the game is being displayed in 1080P). If this is the case, that may attribute to why the Xbox One version appears better than the PS4 version. Looking at the other comments from people who own both versions, they have said the PS4 version is actually visually superior to the Xbox One version.

The Xbox One and PS4 Versions only are sharper because they don't use Anti-Aliasing and mipmaps. Anti-Aliasing blurs the Image somewhat, thats why the zipper on Leons jacket appears more detailed. Image quality on PS4 and Xbox One isn't as good as on PC, the textures have the same problem they had on the 360/PS3 Release, they are shimmering because of the lack of mipmaps. Yes some Textures appear to be new on PS4/Xbox One, but the "HD" Textures Capcom included in the Ultimate Edition already looked inconsistent and out of place. which luckily you could turn off.

It's very hard to go back to using a regular controller after playing the game on Wii. For those who never got a chance to play the Wii version, trust me, playing with the Wiimote is by far the best way to play RE4.

I own both the GameCube and PS2 versions of this game and I must say they are pretty even in terms of pros and cons. GameCube has better graphics and controls but PS2 has the extra missions and you don't have to switch discs like the GameCube version

You forgot Wii U (which is a port of the Wii version but upscaled). At @8:05 you say the X1 and PS4 versions are superior to the 360 and PS3 versions. Graphically, yes, gameplay wise, absolutely not. For us speedrunners the worst versions of the game are by far the PS2, PS4, and X1 versions, while the GC, Steam, and 360 versions are the best. I know this video is about graphics only, but figured I'd throw it out there for others to see.

Remake or remaster? Re4 doesn’t need a remake, I can’t see what there is to change about it. All they can do is build it in re3 remake engine to make it look a bit shinier, which is unnecessary and seems a bit of a cashgrab. I’m not sure what it is, but something about remaking games of the past really annoys me. Unless the game absolutely couldn’t do what it wanted because of limitations or has aged so badly you can’t overlook it, remakes aren’t needed

I wouldn't really say the Ps2 version is inferior to GC. Graphics wise? Sure. But the difference is quite slight but it's made into a big deal because of the change of lighting. The Ps2 version did also add the Ada campaign, and additional costumes.

Such an evergreen masterpiece. I'm kinda obsessed by this game, in fact I bought and completed many times each of its single releases over time... The best version is still the very first one on the Gamecube to me, especially the ntsc us one on which is possible to enable the progressive scan by pressing b on the startup and play the game via component (but only on DOL-001 revision of the console which had a second output port called digital that carries video only, the problem is the component cable current rarity and logically its expensive cost). Too bad the GC version hasn't the widescreen feature and lacks the extra game modes of the later versions, but hey, at least you can vertically stretch a bit the screen with modern tvs and it will be just fine. :) The Wii edition oddly somehow lost technically something in the translation, the graphics somewhy seem less coloured and detailed than on the previous Nintendo home console and if you play it on the Wii U via hdmi there will also be annoying artifacts on the screen. My suggestion is to rather play the Gamecube ntsc us version on the Wii via component on a ntsc us (or modded) Wii, so you can play the game in 480p and spare the money needed to buy an exaggeratedly expensive GC component cable and a ntsc us Dol-001 Gamecube which is quite rare either, basically just for one game. ;-) The Ps2 version begins with dreadful, monochrome graphics, but then it progressively gets better and better, the textures become quite nicer and more coloured and in some parts they are even not so far from the Gamecube quality - by the way you wouldn't have had to compare just the initial part of the game indeed :-\ . All the game has a darker and colder look in this edition, which eventually is a good thing considered the game genre, after all. :)

This is a Game Cube Game and we cannot say not. Ps2 version was good but looks like emulation. Pc version terrible in shadows and fire effect. The Resident Evil fire effect and explosion was a original plug-in released for factor 5 and used in Star Wars Rogue Squadron family, after this Capcom payed a lot of money for to use this plug-in. Resident Evil uses the hardware effects of Game Cube and all ports Looks like emulation, because this was a game developed with bibliotec hardware of Cube. I am talking about water effects, fire, explosions and 3d fogs natives of Game Cube Hardware. A lot of People dont know about native hardware effects of Game Cube, the big dimond of Nintendo, that made possible realistic games so easy to developer in Game Cube.

ALL the versions except the original GC and Wii, are completely missing the post processing effects (depth of field, blur, bloom, dense particles, dense fog, weapon distorsion efects, etc). The best version of the game, surprisingly, remains the original.

And now we have the Switch version. Despite RE4 being one of my absolute fav games ever made, I am still struggling to justify purchasing the game on Switch (the only current-gen console I own), notably due to the huge missed opportunity that comes from Capcom's laziness in forgoing any type of motion controls. Normally, this type of thing wouldn't bother me, but after playing the Wii version, it's hard to go back to the old style of aiming. I understand that 1:1 pointer controls like the Wii Remote had isn't quite as easy to implement on Switch, due to the lack of an IR sensor, but the improved motion tech could still make up for that. Hell, I'd even take gyro controls and play with a Pro controller, like many Switch FPS allow you to do. But, no. And the fact that the Switch port is also the most expensive (to my knowledge) just makes me bitter. The recent PC port is probably the best playing (modern) version at this point, with its mouse controls, HD graphics, improved textures, and 60 fps, but I can't get used to keyboard controls. Someday I'll probably map the keyboard controls to a gamepad to use with my left hand while my right hand is on the mouse. Not sure if that's feasible, but worth a try.

They also switched to pre-rendered cutscenes for the PS2 version. Also the original PC release was based on the PS2 version.

Something to note that I don't believe was mentioned in this video is that the GCN version of the game was limited to a 16:9 letterboxed view. The PS2 and Wii versions claimed to have true 16:9 widescreen support, but in the case of the Wii version at least, this was straight-up false advertising. The Wii version, when set to widescreen, simply took the original letterbox image and zoomed it in to fill the screen. This resulted in the game looking horrifically blurry and dithered, as if it was running at 360p or lower. I was able to prove this when I took the GCN version of the game and then used the 'zoom' function on my TV to see the difference. As I had predicted, it looked identical to the supposedly 'true widescreen' Wii version; aka, it looked like shit. This fact is all the more frustrating when you consider that RE4's letterbox black panels at the top and bottom of the screen are actual physical models that block your POV. This means that the whole game is still being rendered behind those black bars -- so the letterboxing isn't even there to make the game run smoother or anything. I assume the reason is simply a design choice; the game is meant to be played in widescreen. All that being said, this is just another example of how lazy the Wii port really turned out to be (from a technical perspective). Finally, I'd like to bring up the PS2 version, which I only played very briefly. Like I said, both PS2 and Wii were touted as having true (anamorphic) widescreen, which the Wii version did not actually have. The PS2 version however, I am unsure of. One thing I do recall though, is that it seemed like (to me) that the PS2 version, when blown up in my big HDTV, actually had better image quality than the GCN/Wii version. Not sure if this means that the devs who ported the game to PS2 managed to implement widescreen support 'for real', or if it has to do with the PS2 version having superior color-depth. The latter point is something I've only seen mentioned a few times throughout the years, but it makes sense. The GCN/Wii versions have 16bit color-depth, which really makes the dithering and jaggies stick out, particularly when stretched out (and then cropped and zoomed) on a big HDTV. If the PS2 version actually features 24bit color depth, it makes sense why the image quality would be superior. What wouldn't make sense though, is how the hell the PS2 version would somehow wind up with the better image quality when graphically, it is inferior in every other way. As for the Wii port, I'd assume it would be, again, because of laziness. At least they used the GCN assets for Seperate Ways, though it was probably actually easier to do that than port over the PS2 assets -- a rare instance of laziness working out better for us. P.S. this rant has nothing on the actual motion control implementation on the Wii port. Those are amazing and will probably never be topped. The problems lie in the realization that the port could have potentially been much better in terms of its widescreen image output. Over a decade later and I'm still bitter. And I can be bitter all over again with the laziness of the Switch port.

The wii version looked decent playing on wii u but I was kinda confused why it looked so pixelated compared to a game like super mario galaxy on the same system. Tbh the grainy look of the wii version actually makes the atmosphere creepier and feels like you're watching an old horror movie

@@smugcat723 I mean, I guess lol Honestly would have still preferred them to actually present the game in true widescreen instead of zooming it in. They were able to accomplish this for the Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles games, which wound up having better image quality than RE4 as a result. Especially when they advertised the feature. It's a shame because to this day, the Wii version is by far the best controlling version of the game due to the pointer controls, but the sub-SD resolution is even harder to go back to today than it was when it was released. I mean, the PC version has HD, 60fps, and mouse aiming, but the keyboard controls are just not for me. I've been so spoiled with the Wii's pointer aiming that I just can't play the game again with standard controls. I was really anticipating the Switch port, but turns out they didn't bother to implement any motion controls at all. I mean, I know it wouldn't be as accurate as the Wii Remote, but still. Absolutely heartbroken. Guess the best way to play the game will always be the Wii version on Dolphin -- but even that will only ever run at 30fps. Damn.

Nice video,its me or the wii version looks poor that ps3 ? I am play the 2 versions,the Wii its best graphics,frame rate and charged times,well the resolution its 480p but are best,PS3 runs with lag im explosions,more enemies im scenary. The Wii version its best that PS3 and X360,are now that the PS4 and XONE versions,i am get the PC HD version and looks awesome. And hey you not put the Wii U version xD.
