Residual fibrosis or Pulmonary Fibrosis?

I try to clarify the definition of pulmonary fibrosis which just means lung scarring. This can be due to many reasons. We could be dealing with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (= lung scarring of an unknown cause, or IPF) or something else, that has a known and sometimes treatable cause.
Residual fibrosis just means scarring that is left after some event (residual). This often occurs after a bad lung infection (such as tuberculosis), an admission into intensive care for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or some other form of lung injury. This does not tend to worsen over time.
Some forms of pulmonary fibrosis do worsen over time, but even in these situations there may be treatment options to stabilize or at least slow down the progression.

I came across your channel while I'm so worried because my chest x-ray result is residual fibrosis. I had a TB infection in 2016, I was cured from 6 months of treatment then every year I decided to go to a pulmonologist and request for a chest x-ray. Then I had a result yesterday that I have residual fibrosis, I was so afraid that it is a progressive lung scarring. You really help me understand my situation Doc. Thanks be to God and thank you Doc. Now I know that residual fibrosis means a scar that was left from my previous condition which was PTB. I'm a new subscriber. I will also visit my pulmonologist to check if there are changes in my lung scar or if it's stable.

Same! I had a PTB in 2018, I was cured from 6months of treatment. And the result of my Xray is residual fibrosis. I was worried before i found this video. Now, I understand.

Thanks for this very informative video! I just got my xray result and the findings says ‘residual fibrosis’. However, I never had tuberculosis, bad lung infection or anything that you mention on this video. I am really worried and confused, but I am planning to take another xray or ct scan just to be sure 😢

Thank YOU, doctor for this clarification...I was originally diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and now "apparently" have what you describe here as "residual fibrosis". What is frustrating is my pulmonologist never referred to pulmonary fibrosis in my case, only "scarring". I have been recently invited to participate in a 13 month blind clinical trial for a "promising" drug to "replace" the problematic steroid treatments with it's adverse side effects. I am leary of the clinical trial because 1/3 will be on a placebo after being weaned off Prednisone, so I have a 33% chance of not being on ANY medication for over a year. IF you read this and have any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks again.

In my case i have history of ptb treated since 2022, then i got sputum with blood since Wednesday my feeling when im sleeping it's just like boiled in my chest and i wake up in midnight and im starting spit it with blood. And by tomorrow i going to clinic to check up and get xray referral and i get the result today its say fribotic residual both upper lobs. So i do search first to know what is the meaing of the result. In the internet the pulmonary fibrosis is the headline and when i read the condition of it i feel so nervous because it's say theres no cure and eventually leading to death. So i find other topic to this condition i found this video and make me relief and i came back to my doctor to read the result of the xray.

I have upper prodominate lung fibrosis similar to sarcoidosis according to the ct scan. It also says non specific interstitual lung disease/ hypersensitive pneumonitis.

Hello Cookie, how You are doing with it? How long You have diagnosed it? I have hypersensitive pnemonitis also with non specified alergen up to two years now. I have try live normal life but Who know how it Will progress.

Is there any more study results for treatment with Zinc? My case is different but I'm sure there's folks out there they may come across this and venture down a road of wasted time? No need to respond to me personally you know my b/g. Just letting people know don't freak out.
