So far i've given 3D printers a miss as i had nothing to print, but seeing Land Rover parts printed you've just piqued my interest, and in one video put me right off FDM and got me hooked on resin! Now i see how the Land Rover models i've seen on fleabay have been created.

Couple of things. First, if you're going to do functional prints, take a look at the ABS-like tough resins as they have some flex to them. The type of resin you're using, while great for static pieces that don't have to flex or won't be handled a lot, are too brittle for functional parts. ABS-like gives your parts a bit of spring. Second, not sure if you're aware, but your wash process seems a bit lacking. You may have adapted already, but my recommendation is to use a pickle washer for an initial rinse, followed by 5 or 10 minutes in your wash station, followed by allowing the parts to dry for a few hours before curing. Any bit of residual resin will result in a shiny spot which is an indication of insufficient rinsing, which is going to potentially obscure detail. It may not be possible to get it all, but you can get most of it. One last piece of advice is to get a silicone tray with sides of 3-5 cm to pass your build plate into until you can prize the prints off of it. Seeing that resin splattered on your printer's housing definitely triggered me. Resin splatter is death to your printer, and even a little between your lid and the printer can results in a lid that defies all mechanics tools to remove it. A good quality painter's scraper (Level 5 and Hyde are good) will be a much superior experience to the included scraper and is worth the cost. I have two of these Mars 5 Ultras inbound (one for me and one for a mate), and a Saturn 4 Ultra as well. They are so much better than the resin printers I started with (Mars original) and a relative pleasure to work with. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice! I already have some ABS-like resin on the way 👌🏻 I have been spraying prints down with IPA in the hopes I could save a bit, as it seemed wasteful to me to fill a whole jug with it, but I may have to bite the bullet and get a big bottle of it. Thanks again and hope you enjoy the new printers. I’m still really impressed 👍

@@SamsMotors you might want to try denatured alcohol which is cheaper and less smelly (get the low odor kind). It's what Fauxhammer uses, so I just picked up four gallons of it to try. One wash tub of it will last for many, many prints and if you pre-wash in a pickle rinser, it will last much longer. Good luck!

I love that. You go on about how dangerous the fumes are, don your paper mask, tell us you are going to get a twin filter respirator and then the first thing you do is remove the top of the bottle and have a sniff! Exactly what i'd probably do 🤣🤣🤣

Now that the printers have achieved a high level of performance, the manufacturers need to work on making the essential process somewhat less of a toxic, air quality disaster.

Absolutely. There are some products coming out for resin and FDM printers that do this.

That cure station is 80lbs? That is really heavy! Must be made out of really dense material.
