@@Artresin Any tips if you forgot to take the tape off at the 18 hour mark?
@Artresin3 ай бұрын
@@Sophie-li6os Yes! You should be ok to remove the tape up until the 24 hour mark or so, but it gets progressively tougher as the resin gets harder and harder. You'll find the tape will rip. The best thing to do is to warm the tape up gently with a heat gun or a hair dryer, and then try removing it. You might find a metal spatula is helpful to scrape the tape off. If you have any tape residue left, you can try a bit isopropyl alcohol on a cloth to remove it. Hope that helps!

I always suggest labeling your cups part a and part b on respective cup. To be sure you are using each in correct amount. And also a scale to be sure you are using exact correct amounts of parts a and b
@Artresin2 жыл бұрын
We made ArtResin super simple! It is a 1:1 mixing ratio, so just pour equal amounts of the resin and the hardener and you are good to go. DO NOT use a scale when measuring ArtResin, our 1:1 ratio is by volume, not by weight :)

Thanks for this...do you leave the cardboard under the canvas forever? and do you need cardboard support for 4x6 or 5x7 canvas? At what size do you recommend inserting cardboard for extra support.
@Artresin2 жыл бұрын
You can remove the cardboard if you wish once the resin has cured. All canvasses are different, if the canvas you are using has some give to it you will want to reinforce the back with cardboard to prevent it sagging.

Hi guys, wow what beautiful artwork! This is a great tutorial so thank you very much. I’m new to using resin, I’m in the UK so unfortunately I can’t get my hands on your products they look amazing, I’m currently making coasters (wooden with acrylic paints) but I’m getting about 2mm shrinking along the edges whether I’m doming or covering the sides, I’ve tried what seems to be everything including extremely clean artwork, level surfaces, mixing and more. It’s breaking my heart 💔😔. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or even how I can fix my pieces. Please please if you can help or give me a few tips I’d be so great full. I look forward to hopefully hearing from you, many thanks in advance. Melissa xx
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa - Resin typically shrinks because of solvents, fillers etc that evaporate ( as VOCs ) Ours doesn't have any so shrinkage isn't usually an issue. If you added something, that additive might be evaporating and that might cause shrinkage in the resin. It also could be that the wood is absorbing some of the resin, using a sealant prior to pouring your resin should help in this case :) As for getting our product in the UK please contact us at support@artresin.com and we will put you in touch with a retailer in your area :)
@melissahotson46664 жыл бұрын
ArtResin Hi, Thank you so much for your reply. The brand I’m currently using also has no VOCs and I’ve added nothing to. Yes your right I could be the wood that’s the problem and I’ll need to try a sealant. Thank you so much for your help and advice and I’ll for sure be contacting your team cos I’m desperate to try your products. 🤗 x

are there any toxic fumes i need to watch out for or could i let the painting sit in my bedroom? Also is it possible to use a regular lighter insted of the butane torch? Thanks for the video, i am so gonna try this on my art soon :)
@Artresin Жыл бұрын
Hi Florian, we are happy to tell you that ArtResin is non toxic, does not produce fumes or VOCs and has been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and has been designated non-toxic when used as directed and safe for home use in a well ventilated area! Here is a blog with more info: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/41788993-artresin-is-safe-for-home-use?_pos=1&_sid=256798f7a&_ss=r You can use a lighter rather than a butane torch, it is the heat from the flame that clears the bubbles. Depending on the size of your piece you can use a bbq lighter for small areas, butane torch for a small to medium canvas and our propane torch head for larger areas.

This looks great! How long should I wait for the painting to dry before I apply resin? Have a few paintings I would love to do this with. Love the way the colors pop when resin is applied. Thank you for sharing.
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy, It will depend on the paint used and how thick it is applied. I know a few artists that do acrylic pours that say they like to wait at least a week before they apply ArtResin. I think that sounds safe to me especially on thick paintings like pours.

I suggest scraping underside once or twice to get rid of drips as it cures. Otherwise it pulls the resin off the canvas and could leave you open to bald spots. Especially on these gallery wrapped canvases

I like to keep the edges of my cradled panels “raw” and always tape them and remove once complete. If you don’t want resin on the edges would you simply tape them and remove once the 24 hours is up?
@Artresin Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can tape off the edges with painters tape, then remove the tape once the resin has firmed up. Alternately you can just dome the top of the canvas, carefully nudge the resin out to the edge and it will just coat the top.

Can you resin over a watercolour painting? What about wood which has had a photo transferred on the surface? Very informative tutorial. Many thanks
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Yes!! You certainly can use ArtResin over your pieces! Now I would suggest using a pre-sealant on them prior to applying the resin. Many papers and sometimes inks can off-gas and create bubbles in the resin as it cures. By creating this barrier with your pre-sealant it will help to prevent this from happening. We do not favor any one sealant so whatever you have on hand and are used to using is fine :) Here is our most recent blog on sealing your art, it should also be of help: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/should-i-seal-my-artwork-before-i-resin

My paintings have some texture to them, I've put resin on them and it doesn't fully cover all the texture and it looks like there are bumps in my resin, if I pour more resin it just runs over the edge, how can I get a thicker coat?
@Artresin3 ай бұрын
Hey Sophie - yes, you can absolutely get a thicker coat to cover areas with higher texture. You can do it a couple of ways: first, you can create a dam around the piece using tape to contain the resin. You can double up painters tape to make it thick or you can use aluminum tape which is a little more rigid. Then pour the resin into the dam and once it's dry to the touch, remove the tape (usually safe to do at the 18 hr mark). The other option is to tape off the sides of your piece and dome the resin on top - this means that when you spread the resin, you nudge it right to the edge without letting it run over the sides. ArtResin is nice and thick so if you go slow, it will stay where you put it. You can do as many layers as you want for as thick a coat as you'd like, as long as you don't pour more than 1/4" at a time max. 💡And remember to always sand cured resin (and wipe away the sanding dust) before you pour a fresh coat. This will give the fresh resin something to bond to so that the layers don't separate in time. Hope that helps!!
@Sophie-li6os3 ай бұрын
@@Artresin Thank you for your quick reply, how thick can I pour it?
@Artresin3 ай бұрын
@@Sophie-li6os Great question! ArtResin was designed as a surface coating for artwork and intended to be poured in layers 1/8" or 3 mm thick. You can pour a little thicker than this - up to 1/4" or 6 mm but I wouldn't pour thicker than this. If you do, bubbles won't be able to rise to the surface to get torched out and you may end up with bubbles in your cured resin. Your best bet is to pour multiple 1/8" or 1/4" layers every 3-5 hours until you reach the thickness you want :) Here's a blog and video with more info: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/3-ways-to-get-a-thick-layer-of-resin

Yes, you can use ArtResin over oil paint once it has dried thoroughly. ArtResin will fully bond to and seal in any dry oil painting. The problem comes when the oil is not fully dry, we have heard that some artists wait up to 6 months for the oil to be fully cured.

That resin calculator doesn't account for surface area on sides of that canvas though..... So what about that??
@Artresin2 жыл бұрын
If you want to coat the edges of your canvas, that just counts as more surface area so you can include the extra area into your calculations. Typically, since the sides of your canvas are vertical, most of the resin will drip off so you don't have to increase your resin amount by much. Just run your gloved hand around the edges of your canvas to coat them with the run off.

This is on the ArtResin website: What's That Smell? Explaining Epoxy Resin Odor Posted on 8 Sep 20:48 3 Comments Like most chemicals, all epoxy resins generally have some kind of odor. This odor can range from discreet and harmless, to powerful and noxious. Often these overpowering unpleasant smells are indicative of health hazards, and common sense should tell the user to take caution around products emitting such bad smells. ArtResin produces a low odor that some customers describe as "actually kind of pleasant", "kind of like asian fruit", and "barely noticeable". However its smell is interpreted, it is important to note that what customers are smelling are not fumes. ArtResin produces no fumes or VOCs (volatile organic compounds), so its scent should by no means alert the user to any potential danger. In fact, ArtResin has been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials and designated to be safe for home use when used as directed in a well ventilated area. So users can go ahead and breathe normally! Read our SDS for more information.
