For the twelfth and final episode of this season of Resonators, I sit down with the frontman and mastermind of Dayglo Abortions, Murray Acton, and (attempt to) discuss their landmark album 'Feed US. A. Fetus'. See you next year for a new season and new genre!
NOTE: the interview is presented unedited - apologies in advance if the audio quality can be a bit shaky or it runs long, I wasn't about to cut a personality like Murray Acton off!
Best Songs: '1967', 'Ronald McRaygun', 'Proud To Be A Canadian', 'The Idiot', 'Stupid World'
Worst Songs: 'Kill The Hosers'
7/10

How the hell did you get to interview Murray Acton? If this is the type of direction you want to push your content in for 2019, I'm down for that 100%!

A great way to finish up the inaugural season of Resonators with Canadian hardcore punk and a funny, well-thorough interview from the lead singer of the band. Nice little speech ending the video. For the new season, I wonder if the other genres that were in the inaugural poll (70s Outlaw Country, 90s 2nd-Wave Black Metal, 2000s Underground Hip-Hop and K-Pop) will be used as choices again or a fresh new slate of five different genres. Either way, I'm going to be participating in the voting process of the next batch of Resonators.

For me, I'd like to see him do either the second wave black metal or underground rap myself. Both would be very interesting for me for their own reasons (and because I'd very well enjoy them both myself, personally speaking).

@@crazyluigi6664 I originally voted for underground hip hop in that poll and wouldn't mind seeing that and second wave black metal as options again. Now, if you had to suggest an era-specific genre to be added on the poll if the other choices weren't on the poll, what would it be? I would want to see him discuss 2000s Grime (The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Devlin)

@@CobaltT9 I'm honestly not sure. Maybe 1990's Death Metal?

D.G.A. was the first band in Canadian History to be Charged with Obscene Material, They beat the charge but their Management/Record Label ripped them off (FUCK YOU BEN HOFFMAN). Feed Us A Fetus is Canada's BEST Punk/Metal/Hardcore Record Ever Made!!!!

I have to wonder, why is it that seemingly every musical act is liberal? I’m not really a conservative myself, but outside of Christian music and maybe country, I don’t think I hear about any acts that make political music that isn’t liberal. Rock, rap, pop, R&B, folk, metal, reggae, basically everything except those other two have mostly the same political leanings.

And obviously, I’m only bringing up acts that address politics, which is definitely not all of them

You only make explicitly political music when you're unsatisfied with the state of things. A song about why the world should stay as it is would be boring and that's what conservatism is about at it's core. So when conservatives would write music, it would be about some other topic. That leaves the field of political music to progressives and reactionaries. That doesn't mean though that there aren't a lot of conservative messages in music. In Metal, tales of masculine heroism are often told. Heterosexuality, discipline, consumerism and more are often contained within a lot of seemingly apolitical music. Then there's music with both progressive and conservative/reactionary influences. Rap music is often anti-racist, but it also often contains misoginy and often within the same song. I don't think it's as easy as most music leaning towards liberalism.

What the hell do the Minutemen & Rites of Spring have to do with the Dayglos?! Not even in the same genre in the slightest.. the early stuff that comprises feed us a fetus has some of the best punk rock production quality. The guitars sound amazing in there . They are also hard to beat with their tongue in cheek lyrics and their shock rock antics. They also took it into the realm of crossover without ever becoming a full-on metal band! They only other band that I think perfected that is the Fearless Iranians..
