The GPU is missing its heat spreader. I think someone’s been inside the console before. The warranty sticker was intact but there were also missing screws.

Do it..I bought a 250 gb PS3 slim in working order for £35 and gave it a service (thermal paste and a clean) so in total cost about 45 quid…most games are £1-4 each so it’s easy and cheap to get over 50 games for very little money…I use my ps3 more than my ps5 now tbh..

Sadly its a matter of time before the GPU breaks in this ps3 becouse of the defect in the first type of GPU (90nm RSX) that was used in most Phat models,unless its GPU gets replaced with newer one from slim(65nm or 40nm RSX) . latest phat ,slim and superslim have newer GPUs that dont have a defect (65 and 40nm), Also confirmed thats a 90nm RSX GPU 10:15

17:59 Be aware that theres supposed to be a metal ihs on the rsx if you dont apply it the heat sinks cant make proper contact on the chips which causes over heating

It's a shame that my first PS3 was not backwards compatible with PS2 games. It died on my a few years after I got mine. It was still a fat model but with 2 USB ports and the front panel didn't open and an 80GB hard drive. One thing about fat model PS3 consoles is that they also had a tendency to overheat.

Basically what I did to mines, just a light reclean and repaste. Also had to replace the Optical drive. Would not play dvds/Ps2 games. Only Bluray. Previous owners only used as a Dvd/Blu ray player

I got two PS3 fakephats here, having only the 2 front USB so its full fat but no backward compats :*( Not that its really an issue as I got a PS2 Slim which covers 2 and 1 quite nicely, few years back my daughter says to me £60 for a PS2 Slim and a bunch o' games any good and I am like oooh yeah and so she went and got it, it came with every PAL release PS2 game and 100 PS1 games included plus... two Ferrari Mad Catz steering wheels with foot pedal addons and I was chuffed to bits as my little lady she do good that day. I had to put a shelving unit next to the telly in front room, atop is my £17 Switch which works lovely but doesn't dock and cba to solder in the new filter, below that is my Forza edition Xbox One which including parts cost me £14, that sits atop another £4 Xbox One 1540 which worked out the box, then there is my two Xbox One S's one a grey Battlefield limited edition, then there is the PS3 shelf with two phat ones on there, below that is the PS2 and my heavily customised Gamecube and my few quid Mega Drive 2... In my cupboard under stairs lieth my NES, SNES and Dreamcast, just gathering money as they gather dust, SNES I had to whip some caps off as they were puckering like someone's after a bad curry, NES works but a pig to connect to a flatscreen and DC I pulled the leaky caps off with values written on a post it note inside the shell.
