Agree 100%, bodyfat numbers are so arbitrary. It's bizarre because people argue about bodyfat numbers based on visuals and discredit bodyfat measuring tools - where did these arbitrary visual standards come from if there's no universally accepted standard of measurement?
@trenaceandblackmetal56217 ай бұрын
Bodyfat measuring tools are inaccurate and are bad at telling the difference between water weight and actual muscle tissue
@KurokamiNajimi7 ай бұрын
It’s not entirely arbitrary. You can tell when someone is sub 10% and when they’re over 20%. Ppl tend to have more fat than they think, someone you think is 12% could unironically be closer to 20% especially if they have developed abs it adds to the illusion The best way to estimate is comparing yourself to people who reached sub 10%. Per inch of height difference add or subtract 5 pounds of FFM. When you do that it starts putting into prospective how much more fat many of us have than we think. If you’re 180 22% you’d have to lose 15-20 pounds to get down to 15-13% (what you thought you were)
@nmanisbig7 ай бұрын
@@KurokamiNajimi for sure, most people carry more fat than they think, and using people with known height/weight and measured BF is a good comparison. Using stage weight and height for competitive bodybuilders is always a good comparison, puts into perspective how much fat you actually have to lose to get lean

I unsubbed to Greg Doucette, bro doesn’t even post fitness content anymore it’s like a drama channel. That’s not why I subbed in the first place. It’s a shame that’s what the algorithm likes.

Everyone arguing about body fat percentage accuracy. How can you know how accurate a method of body fat measurement is? In order to gauge accuracy, you need to compare the measurement method to a gold standard (killing them and weighing theit fat). Further, body fat percentage is all we talk about but it is quite silly to use it as a proxy for a look. If you're extremely bloated from water and salt, you'll look fatter but your body fat percentage will be lower. And if you're dehydrated you'll look shredded but your body fat percentage will be higher.
@bbomer37777 ай бұрын
Also, keep in mind that body fat readings measure ALL fat, including visceral fat. Some people (based on genetics) carry more visceral fat then subcutaneous fat. So it's an average of the entire body not just subcutaneous fat which I think greg only thinks about...

More people should use the Navy body fat calculator. Just measure your neck and waist and it’s within plus or minus 2-3%. Good enough for most. You can average that measurement with your scale to get even more accurate. Good rule of thumb I’ve learned is every inch of waistline is roughly 2 BF percentage points. Waistline is by far the best guide for losing fat.

I don't think it's really accountability, I just think it's good to know. I am also a natural bodybuilder and the scale and the body fat measurements are tools. I am not using the scale right now, I can judge based on my look if I am ready. The tool, can help forecast the loss. I think Greg takes his stance because when you are so experienced your stance will be different. That's not saying Omar isn't experienced. I'm just saying Greg probably has had decades or people focusing on body fat to the point where he has a different take. I want to get to the video where you guys sit down and talk about your stances together. In about 3 more response videos 😂

I like how Greg always says that there is no way to accurately measure body fat except for his guesses. But he can never know how accurate his guess is because, according to him, there is no real way to measure.
@wafercrackerjack8807 ай бұрын
You're missing his point. Since there's no machine that can accurately measure body fat, maybe except the MRI, then might as well just go for your best visual guess. Remember most people who do so are actually concerned ABOUT HOW THEY LOOK. So just basing off how you visually look is the best way to go for now.
@gankt7 ай бұрын
@@wafercrackerjack880 No you're missing the point. He has no idea. He is just making it up and saying he is right. What he is saying is even more useless than any form of measurement
@madmike9876557 ай бұрын
I personally use a body fat calliper tool, I've found that using that, and trying out multiple body comp machines, my numbers have always been within 2% either way, and that's good enough for me. I don't care about exact numbers, I care about my general numbers and how I ultimately perform in my runs and my lifts is what is most important to me. Aside from that it's the visual. The numbers of body fat are a decent guide to my progress of fat loss, but thats it, just a guide

In no sport you are judged by bf percentage. Then why would you be measuring 'progress' in that way. Seems like something with very little utility. It's a social media vanity metric.

Because we are talking in the context of bodybuilding where you are judged by muscle definition, hence lower body fat % is desirable.
