Furtick: "Following Jesus doesn't change you into something else, it reveals who you have been all along." God: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 What Furtick says is completely contradictory to what Almighty God says. God help him and all the people he's lead astray.

@TampaDoll well said TampaDoll! We take for granted the ease of access to the complete Scriptures, while those in Afghanistan, Indonesia, communist China, Iran and Iraq are being slaughtered for it. The early church never had what we had and they were much more faithful. They had fragments of a gospel and the Old Testament. When I say fragments, I'm talking like John 1 and nothing else. I agree that following Jesus reveals who we have been, but following Him does indeed change us as we walk with him. We become new creatures at the New Birth, but it takes years and discipleship and obedience to truly become like Him as much as that is possible while in the flesh. His statement has a bit of truth mixed in with his error.

@Elevator2TheTop2 жыл бұрын
And yet, the purpose of Scripture is to highlight our redemption, so in one sense, we are the point (at least when it comes to Scripture). Timothy understood that -- "all Scripture is profitable (not to Jesus, but to us) for doctrine (what we should believe), reproof (what we are doing wrong), correction (how we can get it right), and instruction in righteousness (how we can avoid getting it wrong in the first place) -- II Tim 3:16. All Scripture is PROFITABLE FOR US. The entire message of the Bible is FOR US. So, God is far more interested in us than you give Him credit for. "Christ is the point" completely ignores why He came to us -- "I am come that YOU might have life, and have it more abundantly". So, Jesus was far more interested in us than you give Him credit for. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter -- not Jesus' comforter, OUR comforter. There is an entire member of the godhead dedicated to US. So, the Holy Spirit is far more interested in us than you give Him credit for. We are ABSOLUTELY the point. We are special in ALL of creation -- when He created us He said it was "VERY good." I always loved this song, but the words are so true -- But His favorite song of all Is the song of the redeemed When lost sinners now made clean Lift their voices loud and strong When those purchased by His blood Lift to Him a song of love There's nothin' more He'd rather hear Nor so pleasin' to His ear As His favorite song of all.

Most people can't just read and read and read, that's what a teacher is for, one who has been "taught" himself at some point. Watching correct videos that preach Truth is another valuable way to learn, just taking on the Scriptures yourself without any explanation is a difficult task.
@MTBR20013 жыл бұрын
in fact, as i read into your statement, you wouldn't listen to any man teach or preach apparently. In case you haven't noticed, look how difficult it is to decipher a text message from anyone on your phone or in this comment section of KZbin. No emotion whatsoever sometimes. The Bible is the same way, you have to look underneath the actual text also. Like timelines, or how many 7's and multiples of seven are included, how often did Jesus preach about certain subjects, or how many "illegal" things the San Hedrin (Pharisees, Saduccees) did (6 trials) before they had him sentenced to death by Pilate. Some things the Bible doesn't explain so a teacher that has studied can explain more meaning to you than you "think" you already know. Anyone can quote scripture if they read it out loud, but not many can explain truthfully what it means( I thank God for these people). Many are on the path to destruction while only the few will find the path of eternal life with God.

Benner, Robert Morris, Arthur W. Pink, J. C. Ryle, I could go on... Eventually I realized that all of these people were in the same pursuit of truth as I was and we had one thing in common; we all reference The Bible. I figured I already knew the Bible enough, hence reading other authors, but I decided to go back and re-read the 4 Gospels over and over and over again. I found that practice bringing me closer to the truth of Jesus and God more than all of those books combined. They do have their place in supplementation of the Bible but nothing can replace the original Word.

I had put Furtick on the shelf for a while bc I heard gossip & neg attitudes that made me question, but I'm leery of judging the Lords anointed. So I asked God to show me his thoughts. One morning it had been on my mind & then shortly after that I opened a message by a preacher who I greatly respect & he happened to do a beautiful & strong exhortment of Furtick and it was totally unexpected. 💙 that was a wonderful commending of Furtick to me by the Lord. I think we should be thankful that people are working for Christ, preaching Christ as saviour & Christian character & morality. People's personalities come into play & may reach different people & not jive with others but he's preaching the Bible & Christ and on our TEAM. Even if ppl were preaching with the wrong motives (not saying Furtick is), Jesus said to leave them alone, at least they're pushing His kingdom forward one way or the other :) Let's be wise & not let the devil divide us! compare what Furtick teaches with the Bible not a sermon from some other teacher. Adam and Eve were in a perfect setting and still followed the lie of satan. The big lie that the Bible talks about in the scriptures that if it were possible even the very elect would believe is the same lie in the garden that once we eat from the tree we would know the difference between good and evil. The tree of knowledge introduced us to evil. What was the first thing Adam and Eve do when they ate they saw themselves naked and tried to cover it. When did GOD tell them this was evil or bad He didnt. Their thoughts focused inward and not towards GOD and they called what GOD declared as good as bad and ever since this humans have been fighting against GODs instructions and human ideas. The truth is the BIBLE and and whatever is says is righteous so whatever it says we follow. some of these pastors teachers are teaching self centered ideas and they are really good at it. The BIBLE says on judgement day some will say lord lord didnt we do all these things in your name and JESUS will say I never knew you depart from me.

Hi Ellees, I often see the phrase "the Lord's anointed" when people are trying to deflect criticism of pastors. Where did you get that from, and who declared Furtick to be this? Incidentally, one person that this was applied to was King Saul (David called him that in 1 Sam 24:6,10 saying that he should not hurt him), yet Saul was the man whom God rejected as King (1 Sam 15:23 & 26) and rejected. Do you realise that you could be associating Furtick with King Saul, a man in rebellion against God? Please note that while David did not kill Saul, he felt free to criticise him in public, so there is no injunction in scripture against making the failings of leaders public. Finally, it is not biblically accurate to single out pastors or any other leader as "the Lord's anointed" in the new testament. All true believers are anointed (2 Cor 1:22 & 1 Jn 2:20,27). The only special anointing is that of Christ our Lord. Just like W Popof, I encourage you to measure teaching against God's word, not against the words of other "preachers". Be a Berean.

I know this might not be popular here, but I actually like Steven Furtick. As either ANY pastor (ie human), I remember that they are NOT Jesus and not perfect. My own local pastor has made mistakes, as have many other pastors who are public or more private. I appreciate that you didn't shame or slam him, but defined that his style of preaching isn't one you obviously prefer. Which is fine. I also wonder how many sermons you watched before you came to your conclusions, because some of what you claim he doesn't do...he has done. Thank you for your input.

I’m saddened that we have a platform that names people of the faith. The gifts are without repentance and we all have failings. We as follows of Christ have a responsibility to be led by the Holy Spirit, leading us to love each other and pray for each other. We are called as children of God, saved by the blood of Jesus to first : do not judge and also work out your salvation with fear and trembling on a daily basis. We are called to love each other otherwise if not we are just mere clanging cymbals. A platform that dissects teachings can be done without naming a person. This just confirms to the world that we have divisions in following Christ. Jesus called us together. We don’t need to agree with every interpretation of a pastors opinion but called to work out the Word of God with the help of the comforter and interpreter, the beautiful Holy Spirit. We will stand together in the presence of our savour in eternity and our eyes will be opened to all truth.

The problem with this thinking is a "pastor" has no room to evolve to different conclusions as they teach and lead others. They are either leading them to truth or deception. This is why so many are not standing up to the truth because they have pastors who are not teaching the word.

I LOVE this Allie! IT IS THE RENEWING OF THE MIND!! I have talked to so many people about our identity in Christ for so many years. IT IS SO sad to me when I hear Christians call themselves by their former nature because they still sin at times. They say "we have wicked hearts, we are fallen sinners" even though we have the Spirit of God ect. ect. NO DISTINCTION is made that is who we WERE, but that we are no longer in and of ourselves! WE ARE IN CHRIST! He purchased us from our fallen state in Adam and Our eyes are on HIM! WE BELONG TO GOD! We are sanctified by the word of truth!! HE IS THE GOOD TREE! We are the DISPLAY of His splendor, a righteous planting of the Lord; grafted INTO Israel, hidden IN CHRIST with GOD! He has turned our hearts to God through the gospel! WE SEE OUR SIN because we are IN THE LIGHT! WE DID NOT SEE OUR SIN BEFORE! WE WERE IN DARKNESS AND THOUGHT WE WERE GOOD! But we were PRACTICING deeds of DARKNESS! Now OUR WHOLE SELF RULED by the sin nature was CUT AWAY by Christ! He has opened our eyes to HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. WE LIVE by faith in CHRIST! IT IS ALL ABOUT HIM! We are born again to CONTINUE the life of Christ to seek and save the lost by His Spirit to build God's kingdom using all the gifts He has given us for HIS GLORY! IT IS NOT ABOUT US ANYMORE! We are a holy nation, a royal priesthood, a people of GOD'S OWN POSSESSION! TO TELL ABOUT CHRIST and the work God's Son has done to take away our unbelief and save us from His wrath for our sin. CHRIST IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD! And I agree with you, that if you make your present identity in Christ about YOU and God is somehow there to help YOU live YOUR BEST life...THAT IS NOT THE GOSPEL! THIS IS NOT A DO OVER! He didn't pick us up and dust us off to try to do it better again. HE MAKES US WHOLE! BRINGS US TO GOD! HE IS our healing. GOD'S WILL IS TO SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST by His Spirit through His Son and we are called to co-labor with Christ! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! NONE OF US IS WORTHY! He has redeemed us FROM the fall and washed away our sin, sending out his bride into this world to tear down arguments and tread on the lies of Satan that blind our neighbors to the truth of God's wrath for sin and the grace of His righteousness and the judgment. THAT'S OUR NEW LIFE in Christ and what we are called to, no matter the gifts, ministry or role. TO SERVE THE LIVING GOD! John 13:8 May the Lord bless you and your household! Love, Tara

I landed on your program for the 1st time when I saw the name Furtick in the description in youtube and was curious to hear your thoughts. I do listen to him regularly even though I have my own local church that I attend weekly. I must say that I had listened to that message and your interpretation of his post is not how I received it. COMING to Jesus (salvation) and then FOLLOWING Jesus (after salvation) are 2 parts of the Christian life. Many come and get saved but never follow. When we come to Jesus we are new creatures in Christ, the old has gone and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). I know for a fact that Pastor Furtick believes that and preaches that. Then, having received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him (Colossians 2:6). Even in Titus 2:11-12 tells us that Grace appears to us and brings salvation, THEN this same Grace teaches us how to walk it out. Pastor Furtick was never saying or intending to say that we don’t become new creatures when we come to Christ. Rather, after we become new creatures and begin to FOLLOW Jesus, we’re being changed by the Holy Spirit into who God created us to be, in the image and likeness of Jesus. God sees us in the perfection of Jesus finished work, totally different from how we see ourselves; and He continually reveals to us what He sees and calls us up higher. I’m glad that you were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is a man who fears God and preaches truth as revealed to him by the Holy Spirit. Let us not read into the message what wasn’t there. Thank you for your time. Blessings!

I've become tired of "motivational speaker" type of pastors. It's not that the Bible isn't motivating or that speakers can't be "motivational" but having been in the business of promoting speakers before I have found it can get to be pretty performance oriented. It's an act with timing and pauses for effect. I really like people who can just tell me a good story or bring forth a good lesson without all the performance around it. It's pretty rare in our media culture.

I listened to the Furtick sermon that this quote was taken from. "Yes, You" It was a mess. It wasn't the absolute worst thing I've ever heard, but the point he was trying to make was that Jesus called Peter even when he was still known as Simon. (From Luke 5) The part where he said this in the sermon was a complete mess though. A minute before the infamous quote he says "God will get down on the inside of you and show you that you're something else, something totally different." He CLEARLY contradicted himself in less than 2 minutes. It wasn't clear at all and there was no mention of becoming a new creation, being born again. He did mention sin, once....but never repentance. No presentation of the gospel. No mention that Christ is the one who makes us new. Just an eisegetical interpretation that we can be used/called like Simon.....Yes, You.

@Stanzi183 жыл бұрын
I think it's easier to give him the benefit of the doubt because he speaks out of a lot of emotion at times because his sermons are like huge concerts with people cheering, so I'm sure there are several things he's said that he might've said differently after thinking about it. Still very dangerous and perverse things being said, but not necessarily intentionally misleading.

@@Stanzi18 and that’s the problem compared to expository preaching. When people preach this way ( of seeker sensitive, or trying to be so “relevant” that you have to use strong emotional swerves and can’t exposit the word because you’ll “lose” your audience) they fail to properly explain the Bible. Every story or section of the word of God isn’t a fable in which you learn a life story at the end. Take the beginning of Matthew where it lists genealogies. What is one supposed to do with that? Somehow furtick would probably take that, parallel it to something that makes no sense, make all his 5 points rhyme, yell and clap his hands 1000 times and totally miss the point of that section of scripture. I’ve seen it happen with folks other than Steven so it’s not just him.

As someone who attended & volunteered at one Steven’s church for 4 years I began to get a feeling that things were not right . He’s about creating hype and not giving the truth of the Gospel. His church is all about numbers.I sought the Holy Spirit for discernment and left right when Covid began. The truth is a hard pill 💊 to swallow, however one has to learn to take their medicine to become who they are called to be.

I have to say this. I live in a VERY small town in oregon. I have recently planted here close to some family. I have struggled with a drug problem for 20 years. It was time to stop. Luckily there were a lot of good Avenues as far as Church online. I listen to a lot of different pastors and observed many different styles. I have background in church and even went to a Christian School but I walked away. The last two years I've been pretty nerdy as far as doing Bible studies and constantly being in the word or listening to a teacher. My struggle to stay clean has brought me to my niece many times in desperation and opened up a depth of communication an intimacy I've never had before. Which is what brought me to this message. There were a couple times of great distress that God led me to and elevation sermon. I was crying out for answers and a desperation to know that he was really seeing me. When I watch the sermons I I wet and I couldn't believe how personal the answers were. Undeniable that God used for those sermons to really show me that he excuse me I know exactly what I needed to hear. I think we really need to be careful about judging each other. I think that people need to allow God to lead them to a few Maybe. There's a lot of good ones out there and they may not be eating the mark all the time but their hearts in the right place and God will bring them around if they're not where they need to be. Season for dick has a Ministry that is something God is using. Maybe it's a bridge to something else. But God is definitely using it

Just small important things and aloooooot of praising and encouraging things. I think his way of praising and testimony is different from others. Also people say he said he was God almighty. He was saying that in an encouraging way as if God was saying it to us. Reminding us that He is God almighty. And strong and all powerful. If furtick was referring to himself that would be a huge poop show 😂😂😂😂I definitely think we all have to read the Bible for ourself and use discernment at the same time as watching different sermons

Wait, did she say she is a Calvinist? I still can’t find a biblical explanation of their perspective on predestination
@jeanbeck406911 ай бұрын
There are several verses below where predestination is referenced in scripture: Ephesians 1:5 says that God “predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ.” Romans 8:28-30 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. Titus 1:1 NASB). Believers were “predestined according to His purpose who works out all things after the counsel of His will” Here though are scriptures that support our decision in our faith in Jesus: Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek John 1:12-13 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Ephesians 1:13-14 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. @@dfischer5878 here is Mike Winger discussing it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/panEnHiibaeMeKc I think the very nature of free will disputes Calvinism. If God elected people for heaven and for hell, then there would be no reason for the gospel, no reason to be sanctified, no reason for the Bible to discuss in detail the falling away of people in the church. I think the Holy Spirit prompts people, I think the fact that God gave us conscience allows for us to make decisions. After researching Calvinism, it seems the premise is we have zero part to play. And though I believe we have zero part in being able to save ourselves from our sinful nature, and Christ alone could be the ONLY one to atone for our sins, I don’t think that he elected a few for that atonement. I believe the gift of grace is for anyone who decides to put there trust in him, and that is a choice we get to make. John 3:16-17 For God so loved the WORLD, that he gave his only Son, that WHOEVER believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world MIGHT be saved through him.”
@dfischer58783 жыл бұрын
@@simplified_faith thanks for that , I have listened to mike winger extensively on this. You mention predestines some to heaven and some to hell, reformed theology does not teach this. It teaches God works positively and actively in the life of a believer; working grace into their hearts bringing them to faith. In the hearts of the non elect He simply passes Over them leaving them to their own devices;God does not cause the evil in any one. Reformed theology does not teach God saves a few. In the fall we are born with a sin nature . Ephesians 2:1 teaches we are dead in sin and trespass; not sick but dead and unable in the flesh to please God. But God, changes the heart of a sinner , then and only then do we seek him. Romans 3:11 teaches unregenerate people do not seek God. If you believe that Jesus atonement was effectual you have to then believe He knows whom He died for. John 10:14-15. As to the falling away scripture is again clear; those who fall away were never truly saved. 1john 2:19. Jesus prays to the Father in John 17 and states He is not praying for the world. John 3:16 whomsoever stands ; whomsoever believes will be saved, agreed:) seems we disagree on how one gets saved. Tell me how two people sitting under the gospel being proclaimed ; hearing the same message yet one walks away changed and the other unchanged? The answer is ; God changed the heart of one. If I am able to say I accepted that message then I have reason to boast. God intervenes in the life of one and leaves the other. God is sovereign in all things including salvation , this is also how people that are genuinely saved can not fall away. If we could, we would. The same God that sovereignly saves sovereignly brings us to glory. Romans 8 28-30. Finally , I know of no one that teaches reformed theory that thinks the universal free offer of the gospel is not 100 percent necessary. Of course it is as we do not know who the elect are. We must share the gospel to all people. Romans 10:17. I can tell you I never heard of reformed theology till recently, but in my own scripture reading/studying, it is clear that God is sovereign over all things. If He is not than He is not God. Free will is simple; we have it . We make choices everyday. The thing is only God has autonomous free will. Our will is bent toward sin outside of Christ. Gods sovereignty in no way limits mans free will it simply puts the creature beneath the creator,, which scripture also teaches. Soli Deo Gloria ^
