I have a cracked flex pipe in my 2007 Camry and am hoping the garage I called will fix it with out the rest of catalytic converter. First garage told me no, they would only do the whole thing. So I wish you were in my area!!! Thanks for the video, now I see it can be done.

Very well done video. Straight to the point. I have a friend who lent us a 2006 Toyota Sienna van with a noisy flex pipe. Went to a local chain to get a quote: $550 including an O2 sensor "Because it's rusted in there and might not come out". $380 without the O2 sensor. I told them 'yo mama' and put some muffler wrap on it as a temp fix until I can get the actual flex pipe for it. Thanks again for making this for all of us.

Thank you sir. Crisp clean and no caffeine video. Have the EXACT same problem. I work for BMW and my BMW tech advised me to get the whole exhaust from manifold to cat. he was going to do it off the clock at the shop. He said because of that o2 bung and not enuff space to get around to weld. Based on your vid I think he didn't want to get too involved lol I'll show him your vid and alwalk away lol.. Thanks again. I have another guy at our Infiniti shop that'll do it your way! Much appreciated....
@RestoCar5 жыл бұрын
lol You're welcome! The price they want for the full exhaust is crazy. Hopefully you were able to do this with your BMW.
@thegee-tahguy48773 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. All was helpful except the manifold pipe should be inserted into the flex pipe, not the other way around. Clearly the way you did it will work, but its not the way you route exhaust gasses to hit a hard edge of a pipe as it won't last nearly as long as doing it the proper way. Even so, thanks for the look at the job ahead.

Your caliper will work better if you put a battery in it. Good tip on the blade reversal, will keep that in mind. You don't have to plug the saw in, it just takes longer to cut through. ;-) Boy your camera does not like all the RF coming off that welder. I watched this to see if a clamp version would work, and I think you answered my question. I guess I'll just go buy the whole pipe section, since that is easier than trying to pull the welder out from where it is currently buried. Too many tools, not enough garage.

Hello, I have the same car, and im having a tuff time welding mine in. Also, did you put your car on jack stands? I used ramps, which was a little tough for room. I used a stick welder with 6013 sticks. Thanks in advance, for your prompt reply!

When welding a flex pipe, is it better to insert it inside the pipe or outside, or does it not matter? How about when using exhaust clamps?
@onlywenilaugh6589 Жыл бұрын
I would say outside so you don't restrict the exhaust size.

Do you have any recommendations on what I should do I have an inch and a quarter of a hole but it's before the flex pipe and it's right as you're going near the manifold I'm not sure if that's a manifold pipe but right where it starts to curve out words is where the hole is I'm kind of in a budget so I was wondering if anyone on here could possibly help me especially knowing the size my car is the 3.5 l v5 .

so I'm going on a 19-hour trip, and I don't want to spend 600 bucks on a downpipe, do you think this will hold for that long of a drive? also, do you have any tips on reinforcing it? I was thinking of welding it, and also putting on some clamps in case the welds broke. Mitsubishi has such a bad design for where this thing it, its always under pressure which makes exhaust leaks faster

Can you do a video with the option of using clamps instead of welding because most of us don't generally know how to use a welder.
@rniejx42194 жыл бұрын
Learn. You can do this with an $100 harbor freight flux core wire welder, and a $40 Harbor freight auto dimming helmet. (Remember gloves and ear pro and cotton or leather long sleeves for welding underneath a car)

if you want to shake the living shit out of your entire exhaust system then use the saw if you want to do it right use a cut off wheel ..leave the sawzall for carpenters
@MonkyMonk729 Жыл бұрын
If you're worried that a Sawzall is going to shake the rest of the exhaust system, you're definitely not gonna want to actually drive the car. That's gonna shake things way worse. A Sawzall is perfectly fine and way faster.
