The ‘57 Ford was a great looking car. Regardless of whether it’s the regular car or the Ranchero “car-truck”, they all looked great! Looking back, 1957 was a great year for car designs. Ford, GM, and Chrysler products all looked good in ‘57!

Yes,,,,The BIG Three auto companies were really trying out different looks, 2nd-guessing the competition. A buddy of mine was occasionally allowed by his dad, to take their 57 Fairlane to Hi School, in the early 1950s. That car was quick for the time, it had the 292 Y-block engine, that Ford also installed in those remarkable T-Birds from the mid-1950s. The hottest engine was a 312 Y-block, with a 4bbl carburetor.

Hi Lou. Thank you so very much for showing us this absolutely beautiful modern restoration of an outstanding utility vehicle with style and grace. I imagine it was vehicles like this that made America. Hardworking good people getting it done in style. Your friend Mel is a wonderful caring enthusiast and thank God for making him a perfectionist. It sounds like he and his family were blessed.....What a lovely day you had for a car ride and a trip down memory lane with Mel......Another awesome video Lou. God blessed you too.

Talk about bringing back memories that really hit home. I owned a '57 Ford Custom 300 4-door years ago. I had swapped out the 272 Y-block and Fordomatic transmission for a 302 and a C4. The car lost 300 pounds of dead weight while gaining 20 HP and 30 ft. lbs. of torque. That was a fun ride. Thanks for the memories!

Thanks, for mentioning.. a dream Swap In a ‘57 Ford… Admittedly, my Dream was an F Code 57/ Manuel/ ODRIVE , /300//Ranchero, with it without some if “” INTERCEPTOR”” parts / Dealer Options……Interestingly, I came close, buying a 1956 Ford Fairlane 4 DR/ White / Blue Deluxe(?) Interior/ Thunderbird V8/ Auto/ PBRAke, SKIRTS,etc., a real Special , low miles Florida car…in 1963…. Freak accident totalled ……then buying a 61 GALAXIE Convertible, then 66 GALAXIE 500 Xl/ 4 Speed//352( probably my FAVE CAR : buildng up a lot)…! ….

Lou, at 9:21, you asked Mel, “How did you get to be a car guy?” Interesting question. I think for someone of Mel’s age, and even mine (I’m 70), cars were exciting and liberating. We didn’t have all the electronic gizmos like iPhones, games, etc, like kids have now, so our passions were for mechanical things like cars. And by the late 1940’s and even more so in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, car styles were unique, distinctive, and beautiful. Most cars now are boring and ugly compared to those halcyon days.

In general I avoid these 'restomod' cars like the plague. However, this gentleman has done a fantastic job on it. I particularly like the speedo/instrument display. I've had to hang gauges in some of my cars in the past and just never liked the look. That Vintage Air installation is beautiful; I like the 4 eyeball vents as opposed to the little square vents running along below the dash. Kudos to this gentleman for saving an unusual body style. It never surprised me that the '57 Ford outsold the Chevy, though it was certainly close. Thanks, Lou, and best wishes from the Houston/Galveston area!

The car is absolutely beautiful, but the Texaco gas station just takes the trophy! That car parked there at the pumps is the perfect picture. As for hoods that open at the cowl, it makes it easier to work on the engine, but in a front end collision the hood would come back into the windshield. You will notice a hook on the left side of that hood, that is to stop that from happening. My 1974 Opel Manta (find one of those Lou!) had the same setup. It worked real good...
@loucostabileАй бұрын
Hi John, Happy to read "The car is absolutely beautiful" :-) Stay tuned, the Texaco Gas Station video is tomorrow. I've been looking for a Opel Manta, however the ones I find are too far from stock. If you're is stock, we should share your car, Lou
@johnpartipilo1513Ай бұрын
@@loucostabile I had that car from 1981 - 1983. A guy made a left turn in front of me on my way to work one day and I t-boned him. That's how I know about the hook on the hood. The hood got pushed back a few inches and that hook grabbed a bracket on the fender and stopped it. It had 171,000 miles on it and Chicago winters were taking its toll on it, like it does all my cars. I do have an original brochure from a Buick dealership, as well as a service manual. I also have the original steering wheel from my Manta. (I put a custom wheel on it). If there is one out there, you are the guy to find it!

@loucostabileАй бұрын
Hi Collateralcoffee, A restoration is bringing the car back to the way the Factory built it with as many parts as you can find from the Factory. A restomod is restoring the car with improved modifications, as an example this car has a custom interior compared to the factory interior. This car has disc brakes, and in 1957 you would have had drum brakes. Hope you see many more cars on this KZbin Channel you enjoy.
