@candlestyx85173 жыл бұрын
Regroovable just means retreadable, which is a different process involving bonding a long strip of tread onto the bald tires. No tire manufacturer in the world would ever suggest doing this
@garyjarvis27303 жыл бұрын
@@candlestyx8517 Actually No. According to 49 CFR 569.3 (c): “Regroovable tire means a tire, either original or retread, designed and constructed with sufficient tread material to permit renewal of the tread pattern in a manner which conforms to this part.” Part 569.7 says: “After regrooving, cord material below the grooves shall have a protective covering of tread material at least 3/32nd-in. thick.” In any, retreading and regrooving are methods to extend the life of a tire case. Either practice needs to be used properly or bad things can happen.

Re-Grooving tire was common in the States in the 1970's. We had a electric tire groover for use on Bias Ply Tires at my Dad's Trucking Company. When Radial Tires became common, it was recapping the carcass, all to make tires last longer. At 250.00USD or more in 1987 for a quality tire and a cheap tire was around 100.00USD, there was a reason to do both. The last Bias Ply I re-grooved was in 1985, we went to radials on all tractors and trailers that year.

I used to do this at a tire shop here in North America in the early 80's. The hand held machine I used was called a skiver and would heat a 'U' shaped steel blade as you pushed it. Sometimes I could feel the blade hitting the tires steel belts. We would then be told to paint the steel with side wall black so it could not be seen. We would also Hot Cap truck tires, this would require buffing down the old tread and building up a new layer with uncured rubber before putting them in a heated mold. Often the steel belts would be rusty from numerous nail holes. If really bad we would strip out the belts entirely and cap the rubber underneath. We did worse things also :-(
