Thank you Melissa for this class. I have been. When I have a cold i find it helpful to cut up an onion and put it in aglass next to my bed( well, i actually put it in a glass for sprouts. In that way the don't fall out, while i basically put them really close to my nose) open the window in rhe morning and the smell fades away quickly...it helps me a lot. Everybody feel better ❤

I've been sick for the past week and this practice has been immensely helpful for me. I really enjoyed experiencing the poem throughout the poses - it allowed me to truly feel the meaning in my body. Thank you for such a lovely practice!

An ayurvedic remedy : honey with turmeric, ginger and black pepper. Tack a little bit now and then and let it melt in your mouth. (Also delicious!)

Honey, lemon, garlic, ginger and cayenne pepper.. very strong but it really helps to get rid of it, especially if you feel it coming on. Also, to avoid which I haven't(!) breathing through our noses rather than our mouths apparently.

Hello dear Melissa, thank you I needed this today, did an adapted version in bed as feeling really rotten today with a bad cold. The remedies I like are lots of hot water to drink and scented tissues with mint, ravantsera and lavender essential oil. Plus time in bed resting if feeling really bad of course. Blessings your way 🙏.

Dear Melissa, this is the best class for when a cold just took over my body. I appreciate the silence between poses, the reading from John O’Donahue poem and the restorative poses that kept me “up” allowing me to breath easier. 🐫💜

I need this tonight! I’ll be honest, I did a “yoga when you have a cold” video from another channel earlier today and I ended up becoming more congested and unable to take a deep breath… when I heard your intro!!! Learned my lesson and did this one tonight with full ease and feeling like I will definitely fall asleep better tonight. Yoga Nidra is my favorite type of rest and especially when I’m not feeling my best. Thank you 🙏✌🏻

Thank you so much for this practice. I have caught a post holiday cold. I needed this to slow down. I started to go out to a dance class I go to once a month, but I kept hearing my body say rest. I am glad I listened to my illness as the poem spoke of. I feel so much better. I had a huge sinus drainage while we used the chair. Thank you for sharing such helpful practices. Namaste

Citrus and other fruits and veggies high in vitamin C can speed up recovery from colds and cases of flu sightly I've heard and perhaps turmeric to deal with the inflammation and some black pepper to improve the effect of turmeric up to 20 fold. And what my mother would do at home was prepare a steaming hot bucket of water with a few drops of eucalyptus and she'd put a towel over our heads and let us inhale the fumes for a few minutes to drain the sinuses before going to bed. I recently took another online Yin class by a lady with a TCM background, she says colds are associated with weakness in the lung meridian and cause in TCM the lung meridian is paired with the large intestine the class was dedicated to both those meridians, you probably understand that reasoning better than I do.

Love this class for colds, the choosen restorative asana and the poem you discussed as well. What i can recommend, when a cold is already there, is using raw garlic as a natural antibiotic. Get well soon!!!

Hi Melissa. I have a question, what is exactly the difference between head above the heart and head below the heart poses? I guess head below the heart calms the heart ans quiets the brain? And head above the heart activated the blood pressure? Are there some restorative yoga poses you recommend for both? Best wishes from Austria, Natascha

Hi Natashca, Judith Hanson Lasater talks about it extensively in her new restorative yoga book Restore and Rebalance. For a detailed discussion of it I would start there. In this class I was simply keeping the head above the heart (in other words elevated, or not inverted) so as not to create too pressure in the head. This of course would cause more pain when people are experiencing head colds. Namaste, Melissa
