😂just had yt algorithmed your old post. I was looking for composite stringer content. See what is new out there. I ❤vintage glass. I have restored a couple of run abouts and 80s competition water ski boats. When they were still using un treated plywood and wood encased in glass so everything eventually gets water penetration and rots. I always used a 4”death wheel and cut off wheel to precisely remove the glass floor and other pieces. Fast. I saved the old glass and then reglass them back in. Used a composite material to replace wood or saturate any wood in penetrating epoxy resin before adding back in an old boat. Penetrating epoxy resin can be bought from Jamestown Distributors or you can carefully mix your own. Good content.

One time a police chase ended outside my apartment building, and I saw the perp ran off. The cops showed up a minute later, and from my window I told them which direction he ran off. About 30 minutes later I went outside to snap a photo from the end of the street, so I could share with my friends that I helped a police chase. I was then surrounded by cops, some with their weapons out and ordered to put my hands up. They tackled me to the ground and beat me for "resisting arrest", and then threw me in jail til 3am. My case was dropped when I went to see the DA. Thin Blue Line BS is lame. Stay off my channel and be thankful they have not abused you.

Looking forward to seeing how you go about replacing the transom. Made a 9hr round trip today to pick up a 77 Aristocrat. Ended up walking. He replaced the transom but did it completely wrong and didn't glass the inside, the wood wasn't cut right and the deck and stringer that he assured were solid were completely rotten. Overall there wasn't a single good thing about it other than being a Sleek
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
Why would you not even glass the inside after replacing it?! Makes no sense.
@SirrBassius3 жыл бұрын
@@ADDvanced oh it was worse than just that. The splash well was cracked at the sides and in the middle where the engine almost broke off. The wood he used was 2 layers of 3/8" plywood that he just epoxied together, stuck in there and then glassed the back of the hull on. Which it also wasn't nearly the width of the boat. From my understanding he just used a chainsaw and cut the entire rear of the boat out. The boat also had standing water in it... took a pretty good number of pics of it

It’s bonded and screwed and there’s like no room and I’d have to disassemble the entire dash and harness. Plus then after cutting I’d need to reglass the entire thing back together and do all new fasteners.

My go-to for stringer removal is a sledge hammer. Your chick is the best! Lastly, Mark Weigl of Tuff Marine is a friend of mine and he showed me something I never knew about stringers. The glass does all the work and the wood is simply a form for it. The wood gets wet, freezes then cracks the glass. In his Tuff 21, he literally used a cardboard form and then layered bi-directional glass over it. It saves a lot of weight and it NEVER rots out and is every bit as strong. For anyone who thinks that is BS, go cut a Skater in half, you will not find anything but thin cardboard inside their stringers either.
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
I'm not even sure I need a stringer, since this boat has those two tunnels, it's already pretty stiff.

It was super, super cool. From what I read, it was not the risk that wound up killing it; it was Mercury's policy back then of blueprinting engines for certain people, so it became a game of who you knew. These "production engines" would win so often/frequently that OMC dropped out completely. Idk how true all that is, this is just from reading message boards.
