Thank you for your support! The success of my last SST video was pretty unexpected, viewers like you helped pay for the fiberglass resin and lumber needed to support this project! Huge thank you!
I picked up a crazy rare ultra high performance twin tunnel hull ModVP Sleekcraft SST for $500! This was one of sleek's fastest hulls ever, and was famous for racing in the ModVP series in 70s/80s/90s before it was banned for being too dangerous! This thing is going to need EVERYTHING, but I'll show you how you can tackle all these major repairs without spending a lot of cash.
This video goes into more detail on removing the jackplate, transom plate, and cutting out the splashwell to gain access to the transom. I'll cover all the tips and tricks I use along the way; it's a messy job but it's not that hard to do, so feel free to follow along. Hopefully watching this will help convince people to tackle their own boat restorations; it's dirty work sometimes but it's not too complex or challenging, so please leave a message if you have any questions and I'll try to help.
If you liked this video or learned something, please check out some of my other videos and stay tuned for updates to the SST project!
Products used in this video; clicking them supports my channel but doesn't cost you a penny, cheers!

I have a glastron cv16 and the previous owner put so many layers of fiberglass to bond the top to the bottom that i had to cut out the splash well to replace the transom

The best strikers are done in layers of wood and carbon fiber. 1/8 wood then carbon, then 1/8 wood in epoxy.. it will never rot again

I don’t know what you decided on but a composite transom seems like the best fix. No rot, more strength, lighter weight.

Is it just me or is that jackplate really overbuilt? Looks almost bulletproof..
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced 3 жыл бұрын
The jack plate is just the part hanging off the back. The aluminum part on the transom and the support pipes are... idk... reinforcement? But yeah it looks pretty overbuilt!

seems like a good solution , mightve drilled a few more small holes on each side of the cut you made and create a few more temparary fitment plates to put the splash thingy back in place later on , saves you from having to prop it up while glassing , then again you could bond a few strips of wood or plastic strips under the cut to one side for the other piece to lay on top of taping it of and paint the cuts in the same colour as the stripes allready on the boat should make it invisible without creating a colour difference in the white colour that would make the repair less noticable

Watching this, I had an idea but I don't know if it's a good one. What about a 1/4" or 3/16" aluminum transom plate, bonded in with epoxy polymer resin?

That a shame the Ants the drilled holes along where how it was stored. I saw the 1st vid looked wet nasty and damp. Pulled my 16' CeeBee avenger out of the barn last tabs were 2010 interiors carpet I'm replacing bought 76 glasstron try hull with the same motor for the lower unit extra parts. That boat was just outside the barn when I decided to get off my ass do something about these boats. The glasstron motor mice are every wire CeeBee motor was perfect. It's how you store your stuff can save you big headaches.

I just replaced my transom with Carbon-Core’s pourable transom. Worked great 7 times stronger than plywood and I had it finished in four days.
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced 3 жыл бұрын
Not really a viable solution in this style boat, where the cap completely covers the transom. You would have to drill like 10+ giant holes in the rear edge of the cap. On a normal boat with a normal exposed transom, that is a viable solution.

We can rebuild her bigger better faster stronger. The 6 million dollar boat. I'm glad my boat was in a barn for 11 years 2010 tabs on it. Before I pulled it out it's dry desert around here. The Ants the drilled holes along with where it and how it was stored caused all of that . That sucks. Bought 76 glasstron try hull for the tower of power lower unit. My on the ceebee 16' avenger lower unit shot. The motor on that was in the barn on the boat 11 years the other motor just outside the barn for the same amount time. I'm kinda allow on projects Left the front cover off the motor. That motor mice made nest ate every wire. The motor that closed up. Perfect they couldn't get in. Keep going I'll keep watching.
