Thank you for your videos. Watching what you did with laptops, I have recently upgraded 2 Toshiba Satellite l300. I replaced the damaged screen, changed the hard drive to ssd, upgraded the ram to its maximum, cleaned the whole laptop from bottom to top, changed the thermal paste and finally changed the OS to Ubuntu Bionic beaver. Since there were no major scratches, I didn't have to repaint it. It all works fine and faster than ever. Without your videos, I wouldn't have tried and would have put the laptop to trash. So thanks to you, two laptops have been saved and I'm currently writing this comment from one of them. Have a nice day.

I'm pretty 7 won't exactly be the smoothest experience on a machine this weak. Windows 7 Lite is an unofficial version, so you can't be sure whether it's sketchy or not.
@talos864 жыл бұрын
Dont! Windows 7 is too heavy for these machines. Even most of the Win7 era netbooks cant handle the Starter and Lite edition very well. I have a Packard Bell DotS and its struggles to run Windows 7 Starter with maxed out ram(2Gb) and SSD. My syster have a laptop with Intel B960(more powerful than the stock Celeron and the upgrade Pentium) and that is weak too for Windows 7.

I see so many people do this to these types of laptops, but really; what is the point? Windows XP and Intel Pentium M laptops can be rather nice for retro gaming as he shows its use in the video, and Windows 7 can be total horse shit on these types of computers, giving it honestly no actual valid use I feel.

Hey Andrew, this laptop is actually manufactured by a company named ECS, and the manufacturer model of this laptop is "ECS 550" if I'm correct, which then other companies like Gericom rebrands the laptop with their own model number and resells it. I recognized this laptop from somewhere since the palmrest information specs sticker is also used with another company named Patriot, of which this model is "Patriot 3060". My brother had the Patriot 3070, with the same sticker design which I recognized this from which was made by ECS under the name "ECS 321" from their G320 series of laptops. Advent also did this, but I wasn't able to find your laptop model since I didn't want to waste a lot of time for this. Hope everyone learnt something, and is ECS back again with their "kinda" generic line of laptops but not really haha

Good job! A few tips: orange and black or orange and white it's okay. But orange - white - black is not a good idea. To upgrade more the laptop I would have updated the bios. Sometimes upgrading bios make more cpu's compatibles or upgrade ram support adding more quantity up to 2 GB in some special cases. The key for your keyboard can be found in waste/recycling places or in chinese stores, also complete keyboards.

Great restore. Out of curiosity though did you not upgrade the drive because you wanted to keep the old XP install? I mean you could have cloned the drive with some software onto something with more space and speed, possibly even an SSD.

I wish computer companies would have more colors in their cases, laptops and desktops. Back in the 1980s and most of the 90s the beige color ruled for IBM compatible computers. Rarely you could find something else. Now beige has been replaced by black. I am SICK of it.
