It appears you are a very skilled mechanic. Only thing I'd question is I think I'd a put the fuel shut off before the fuel filter to ease the changing of it when necessary/???

That's a good point but I like to filter the gas when I drain them out of the tanks. I often rotate my gas in my mowers, generators etc when in the off seasons. I normally drain the gas into a gas jug and will burn them in my vehicles before it goes bad. Here in Florida I don't like the gas to get over 3 months old. Not even the ethonal free gas.

Awesome. I’m surprised the paint held up so well on the metal given the condition of the plastics etc. great job.

Great job, great presentation! Looks like you've got a 'keeper'. Another awesome general purpose industrial cleaner is Krud Kutter. It's pretty powerful, and needs to be promptly rinsed after application.

Thanks Santaclause! And thanks for the positive support and comments. I'll need to try Krud Kutter. Maybe I should do a comparison on degreasers. Purple power is far from best but it's decent for bang for buck. The best degreasers I ever saw was when I worked at some car dealerships in my teens and 20s. Not sure if that stuff is even available to the public but it would melt the skin off your hands.

That gray paint just made that mower pop. I wouldn’t be scared of that engine at all. Would be nice to know the service history

I did a leakdown test on it the next day and it only had 3% leakage on cylinder #1 & 5% on #2. So I'm pretty happy with that. I need to check the valve clearances but it runs so good I bet they are in spec

Drive a self-tapping screw in each side of muffler shield after drilling a hole and it will stop the rattle. Mower looks good, but difficult to get some of this extra work back when selling it.

I would definitely buy a used mower from you after you went through it if I lived in your area. Great job!

There's a product I found called Gone Mold, Mildew and Algae remover and it's amazing for removing the stuff you're dealing with.

I was not originally planning on going that far into it, but one thing led to another. Next thing I know, Im painting the plastic. I did a leakdown test on the engine. It is in surprisingly good condition for 460 hours.

Although it’s great content for the channel, I’ve found that these don’t fetch very much money in my area. I had the exact same tractor that I got for free that had 300 garage kept hours and meticulously maintained. The deck was in excellent shape and the tractor looked excellent. I asked $500 to no avail. I sold it for $400 but only after a dozen people wasted my time. I don’t invest that much time in these anymore.
@Mechanical_Mind Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's definitely not a huge money maker unless you can get a great deal. I look for signs of one's that are clean but need a repair I can do that will cost others a large amount of $. Plus I get content for the channel so with out that added bonus I wouldn't mess with flipping mowers much.
@montanawhite5699 Жыл бұрын
Great video. Do you think it’s worth it to buy a new deck for one of these mowers if it’s working fine with low hours? I live in Hawaii, I don’t know if it’s the salt, or our never ending grass season, but decks don’t last long here. Fb market place has more mowers for sale without decks than with decks.
@Mechanical_Mind Жыл бұрын
We have a similar issue here in Florida. I guess it depends on what you can get a deck for vs mower. With new mowers being so much more than just a few years ago I'd definitely look into just replacing the deck. Thanks for watching!

Awesome mower restoring video. Lots of helpful repair video on your channel. Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.
