Hello Everyone and thanks so much for the wonderful feedback. I'll do my best to answer the few common questions in the comments but if you want more detailed info PLEASE click over to the site where you'll find pricing, links, etc. www.gonewiththewynns.com/rv-modifications-technology Installer - We had all of our mods done at the Fleetwood Factory Service center in Decatur IN, we did not attempt to tackle such a project on our own. Batteries - They are 9KWH or 700ah. Tilting Solar - Yes the panels are tightened down to the roof, I removed the bolts holding it down so I could quickly show they tilt without going into detail. Yes, it would be horrible to drive down the road with the panels "unscrewed". Chairs - The folding chairs Nikki is using come with the RV. Water leak - There is a small leak when I'm connected to a high pressure water line, we are getting it fixed...thanks for noticing :) Cats - yes those little guys are both camera hogs.

Awesome set up. The install looked very well thought out. Very neat and NO RATS NEST of wires! Back in 1999, when we started RVing, we used to rent Bounders. WHEW! Bounder has come a long way! The layout and color/fabric accents are very homey and inviting. I'm sure the market research will be overwhelmingly positive and we will see these upgrades as an optional package very soon.

This is amazing and something to inspire. Thank you for making this. Parkinglots are not always the best destination and trying to get off grid enough to get away from that kind of space is a dream. Keep sharing.

I realise that this is an old post but I've recently come to your channel. As a radio ham with specific interest in Emergency Management I often find myself "off the grid" and in need of "shore power". Over the years I've tried pretty much the same things that you have installed into your RV's but I keep coming back to the same problem - efficiency. Whilst I applaud you for getting the latest gadgets to charge your batteries and batteries that are better at holding a charge etc, you are still throwing energy away by up-converting it to 110VAC (household current). Worse still, in many cases you are then down-converting the 110VAC into less volts such as 12VDC which you already started out with. For example, running your laptop by plugging it into the wall is a HUGE waste of power. It's taken you a fair few hours to collect all that power from the sun. You then convert that power up to 110VAC, plug in your laptop, and then convert the power back down to 19VDC. Along the way you have generated heat, lost watts through conversion inefficiencies and drawn more power than necessary to power your computer. One of the things I do not see littered around your RV is a 12VDC buss. While I agree that cigarette lighter outlets are not the prettiest of things to look at you'll at least be able to cut down your losses when you are off the grid.Take a closer look at your appliances. Your fridge will probably not run on 12VDC but you can get very respectable chargers for your laptops that can and every TV I own in my house has a 110-12V power supply. Finally, where's your wind generator? For stays of a few days or more, getting a pole up 30 feet with a 400W generator on it is trivial especially when you use the coach as a mast anchor. You'll then be able to generate power even in the lightest winds and you can make power at night. Good luck! Keep up the good work. You are doing something that the rest of us mortals can only dream about.

Well, I found this video and now I have to go watch the rest of the series about dinosaurs-LOL. I have a dinosaur of my own. A late 70's 22 foot class A that I use mostly for weekend boondocking. I'm looking forward to getting some great ideas about how to get the biggest bang out of my limited bucks. I also love that you RV with your cats. I'll check out your other videos and I hope to find one where you talk about the challenges of taking the cats with you. I'd like to take my cats along, but I worry about them getting heat stressed when I boondock and can't run the A/C as I have no generator. (soon to be purchased) Thanks for making a great series of videos about RV living.
@gonewiththewynns7 жыл бұрын
Sure! www.gonewiththewynns.com/traveling-cats You don't say where you're located and where you're camping, but your cats' health and safety should always come first! Cats are better at tolerating higher temps (within reason) than dogs, but you shouldn't take them if you'll be camping in really hot conditions.
@clydealspaugh87017 жыл бұрын
I'm usually within about 40 miles of home and then only for a few days. (less than a week) That won't have much bearing on the cats though. In the early and mid season temps hover in the 70's and 80's. Later in the season, temps can often climb into the 90's. The humidity is also a factor. It tends to stay above 70% most days. Since I made my original comment, I have consulted a vet about the matter. During the early season, I can probably take the cats, but when the temps start to climb higher, it won't be safe for them so I'll have to leave them at home. Thanks and keep up the cool series of videos.

Congrats on great equipment selections and a gorgeous installation in all areas.I am particularly interested in the superb installation of the electronics underneath. The whole set up from the battery monitor to the Auto Gen Starter to the Inverter and the controllers inside the RV.[1] Who did you find that could do such a beautiful installation? [2] How, more importantly, does one go about locating someone who knows so many sophisticated and varied products to properly install all of them as a collective working system?[3] Did you send all of these upgrade and/or add-on products to the installer or did you bring them in person?AND, given this excellent "Resurrecting Dinosaurs" series on moving manufacturers closer to a custom design approach to purchasing an RV, can we approach Fleetwood as a new RV buyer and request that they credit us for the items that we would be replacing/upgrading versus paying for their installed items only to have them replaced with our own choices? (for example, let's say that we want a different Inverter than their stock item: can we receive a $ credit applied to the purchase price by telling them not to install their stock Inverter, and, instead, ask them to install the Inverter that we bring to them?Great Videos - thanks for all of the time and effort to produce such valuable and entertaining videos!!!

Once again great video. I guess it comes down to what the masses want (and need), with most people using their RV's for only a couple weeks of the year their return on investment would not make sense. If you spend as much time in your RV as you do AND want to camp in remote locations then the modifications are well warranted. Here is my opinion. As a owner of a class A and in my mid 40's I think the manufacturers need to swing their attention to technology and away from tacky interior window valances! Or at lease offer technology packages when ordering. But thinking, I bet you would be better of having the upgrades like you had at a third party installer that is up on the latest trends in the technology. Safe travels to Alaska !

McKay Sleight Most coaches come with two fixed padded chairs and two folding matching chairs that can be stowed away when not in use. Since they appear to match the rest of the furniture my guess is that's what you're looking at. It's Best to keep the Lithium cells inside the Coach in doing so you will be sure you are keeping them nice and comfy - Sure the pack can run at high temps BUT doing so will reduce their capacity - Look to Tesla they heat and cool the battery pack prior to charging depending on the pack temp - so if they set it up properly with a good BMS (Battery Managment System) it should monitor the pack for them and ballance charge it as well. They didn't go into any of this on their blog or video so if you are going to make the plunge into an Expensive Pack make sure you know what you get yourself into - they are NOTHING like Lead Acid

I haven't read EVERY comment so forgive if this has been asked and covered. Have you looked into SATCOM antenna receivers? If so how much? Did you have any wiring size upgrades done as well? Like going from 12 gauge to 10 or 8? This could be a big power saver, like your tilted panels. 2 volts of loss is just like a small heater and wasting power. I had this exact problem with my Class C. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I have questions about the Lithium batteries... 1. Did you have to change anything else to change over from Lead Acid to Lithium? 2. Is there such a thing as Deep Cycle Lithium batteries? 3. I understand you can only drain them 50% same as Lead Acid, else they don't fully recharge. You mentioned 90% drain? I bought 2 AGM Deep Cycle Lead Acid Batteries at 100 Amp Hour each. I still have the factory inverter in my Class C Tioga Montara. If I switched to Lithium, what other gizmo would I need to transition? If I added solar panels with an MPPT Charge Controller, and if I used Lithium batteries, would I have to get some extra gadgets to operate? I would want to get a Battery Monitor but it is not essential.

So when you were on the roof showing us the solar panels, I noticed the rain water puddleing on the slideout awning. Do you have to remove the puddle before you put the slideout in or will it roll up ok with out damage.

Paul Wicklund It will roll up just fine. The slideout awnings are great in every way except when the wind is really blowing. Mine are very loud in the wind on my 2015 Arctic Fox 35-5Z
