Just the fact that the expression puts "WORK" first says it all.

Availing an expert's assistance for offloading stress is a nifty way to strike the balance. Using modern resources like Virtual Assistance is always helpful.

3:42 so true. Struggle in one area creates stress in others. Wish i could turn off that part of life.

I liked your suggestion Wellness Lawyer that one should focus on improving one area of ones life which is under stress to balance it with others.

Very nice! I loved the way you turned this concept around. I 'm not in the law industry but I still found this idea very useful. Thanks!

at the end of the day you can't have it all . everything we do has an opportunity cost. pursuing a career might force us to forgo health due to the stress and family life due to long hours. it's really about knowing what you want in life

It seems he never worked 18 hours per 7 days a week like me. It is not easy shifting priorities are not as easy as he is making it sound.

Yeah, that really doesn't help. The main point is that generally, people work 9-5, five days a week, with two days off. That doesn't give any room for balance whatsoever. 3.5 days at work with 3.5 days off would increase the working population and productivity, as you'd never have to close your business.

9-5 five days a week just if you're lucky enough to be born in a developed country. Third world countries struggle with all sorts of abuses, 44h, 48h/week, plus the overtime. Work life balance under this type of scenario is a fucking hipocrisy.

My problem with work-life balance: within a given workplace, it usually means that married people with kids get the life, and single/childless people do the work.

Sorry but this concept is only applicable to people who finds their job fulfilling. Say myself for example I love arts and working as a Creative Director works for me. But what about those people who are forced to work on jobs that they don't like but had no choice? People with dead-end jobs? People who needs to work overtime just to keep up with their bills? You will fail to see those things if you have not been living in those situations so we must be sensitive to our coworkers and employees needs too

I couldn't agree more with this! I have found it very useful in the last 8 months of my life and the benefits are starting to reveal themselves. It is hard work to maintain a balanced lifestyle when there are problems around me, but I managed to get good at this by reading a lot from people who have done this and succeeded. These books jump.blinkist.com/SHgn helped me a lot to progress in improving my mindset and work-life balance approach. I found a lot of best-selling books here that are transformed into powerful packs you can read or listen to in 15 minutes. Good luck to all of you and have a happy and great balanced life! And remember, you are the captain of your ship.

A lot of assumptions made here. First of all, aiming for a balance between your 'up' time and 'down' time is surely a good thing. This doesn't mean that your 'up' time (at work) is something you don't like, but it obviously carries more pressure than your 'down' time. And also, is anybody really advocating a 50/50 balance between work and other stuff?

This assumes that the scale has to be 50/50. Rather then just falling for this false assumption I'd encourage everyone to define and/or become aware of there on very own (individual) scales in all different aspects of life (from macro down to the micro level, the more detailed the better) and then only on as a second step analyse and see how balanced you're on those scales.

Lets face it.in reality, lawyers dont really have the time for "life" coz almost or more than half of their lives must be spent on memorizing laws. LOL thats why they "cant" agree with the work lofe balance concept.

So if this is what you advise - slavery. I would disagree with most of what you say in this video. Just imagine working 24/7 and with zero pay, that's what I'm getting out of in this video. Why would you work for something when it doesn't involve a return? If you come from the view of having different types of work, I would more likely accept your opinion. A job is just one type of work, and we don't want to focus on just one thing. We don't want to be narrow minded, we want to focus on the many, or the all. Almost everything involves work- including hobbies and goals. A balanced work life should involve working at a job for half the week, and using the rest of the week to improving your skills and talents (which takes work), maintaining or improving your health, family, and relationships, and doing household chores. Everything attained or gained must be maintained.
