You never mentioned learning khmer language. For me it is very important. By paying little money. Language is power

I spent a long time here over the years before I retired here, i had a basic knowledge of the language but have put in an effort over the last year and am close to fluent, being able to talk to the natives has really fullfilled my experience here, i would encourage you to learn the language before or soon after you come to live here.

That is what I am planning to do while still in the Netherlands. I found a school thru FB "Be like Khmer" do you know it by any chance? And how did you learn the language? Was it a huge challenge?

Siem Reap sounds awesome but I need to be by the ocean so will retire in or near a beach off of Kampot. Wonder what the options are for housing…

I suggest you visit there first and with your boots on the ground find out firsthand . A 30 day visa should do it . Then go home , process the information , and with a cool head make your decisions

can work out all day. Do laps of the pool. Get cheap massages. Burn heaps of calories so I can eat loads of cheap food.

Great advice. I'm still working, but, I've got my house ready to sell, and hopefully sell it quickly, and can make my way to Siem Reap, by the end of the year. I definitely will be acquiring some hobbies, and doing some traveling. 🙂 I can't wait to do Khmer cooking lessons and language lessons. I'm ready to slow down and enjoy my retirement and next chapter of my life.

Hey Dave....where would it be a good place to store a motorcycle in Siem Reap for months at a time?
@walsakaluk15846 ай бұрын
If you get out and about before sunrise and it's still cool you can go for pleasant walks or exercise. It's like an outdoor air-conditioned gym. At this time the streets and parks are full of the entire panoply of Cambodian society and foreigners exercising within their means. From pro athletes training to folk with healt or mobility issues getting in their physiotherapy. Retirement is a great time to work on the body beautiful....or at least to renovate the meat sack somewhat. That's free. Stop at a nice gym for an hour for $1 if you need or want to.

I'm an American thinking the US is too expensive for me to retire here. I just did a month in Thailand researching. Siem Reap is looking awfully nice. Do you ever meet up with people who come on exploritories? I'm not very well traveled and so don't "plug in" right away.

Is it possible to have a conversation in English with Cambodian women? I am retired (65 year old in good health and shape) and I want to move abroad to live with a younger woman (around 35 years old). I am considering Cambodia and the Philippines. I know Filipinas can speak some English but wonder if this is the case with Cambodian women? And if they don't speak English, how do foreigners find a Cambodian girlfriend?
@marktrail86246 ай бұрын
You can find Cambodian women in Siem Reap in the service sector can usually speak some English. Because of the tourism.
