@@mikesphilippineretirementYou're such a nice guy and I love Janet I should give you constructive feedback on why I'm unsubscribing: maybe you're just nervous, but and most of your videos, you seem angry, I think that's just your personality, super serious, maybe you see yourself as a stern advisor? Anyway, your channel isn't entertaining, watching you feels like scolding.

You provide a great service. Thank you. I studied every video of Reekay, Paul Old Dog, Vagabond Awake and THEN I took two long term exploratory trips. The first was 3 months all over Philippines focusing on provinces and went to Duma. Because I made such great decisions on that trip, I made a second trip to slow travel to 7 SE Asian countries by myself. I wanted to see if I can do that at my age. It was the best experience I ever had. I found out the Phillipines is but one of many amazing countries full of warm, caring, loving people with abundant opportunities to find love. At the beginning of the video you asked are we ready to not have support, to leave the US? I was ready years ago. My wife passed away after a long illness and NO one showed up to help, support her or I. I told myself never forget this. America has some wonderful people but I see in general it is not the way it was. I am not going to die here. All 7 countries I went to I researched the dying process. It is much more humane than here in the US. I don’t live in denial. I have a contract with reality. I can handle bugs, warm weather, in exchange for the constant armed car high jackings, killings, violence, fear and terror I see in peoples faces. For me I’m excited to leave and never return. Of all my family I was the only one to love and care for my parents every day. I don’t know what happened to my siblings. I don’t have a family. I had more family experiences in the 7 countries where I found caring, engaging, playful, hard working people. I lived with locals. This is going to the the adventure of my life. After my wife passed I lost weight, I walk 4 hours every day, I stretch and everyone says I look much younger than my age because I worked for it. I have planned everything well. Thank you for the Ipostal1 referral. I will not go specifically to the Phillipines. I will slow travel like Vagabond Awake. That’s a low cost very invigorating interesting amazing way to live. Eventually I’ll settle somewhere in SE Asia. As long as I can slow travel I will. I can tell you and Janet care by posting this video. Thank you 🙏🏼

Well, I was enjoying your long comment until "exchange for the constant armed car high jackings, killings, violence, fear and terror I see in peoples faces"...drama queen much? But seriously, sounds like you have a great plan and it will be quite the adventure. I'm a little biased in that I lived in Thailand from age 40-50, just worked out that way. It's not a place I ever want to go back to again. Yes the street food is great and the curries are amazing, but...the people really are not as friendly as advertise. Sorry, they are just not. I was robbed at night in my home at gunpoint by a Thai guy. Many Thais have truly black hearts. So big mistake buying into the "everybody's friendly" stereotype. That said, my girlfriend was quite lovely. But as far as the beaches and nightlight, there is too much bargirl stuff there, and overall their beaches just do not compare to what you find in the Philippines.

Hey Mike! I also sent my stuff in 5 balikbayan boxes to Cebu. But I didn't have an address yet so I sent them to an LBC office in IT Park in TGU Tower. There's a storage place in the same building so when I got to Cebu it was easy to transfer them upstairs to a storage unit that I rented when I got there.

The emotional aspect is my most concern. I’ll be staying 3 months this visit. That’s a long time for me. I take it as a trial run before living there permanently. Of course in the long run. We are still waiting on USA visa. We will eventually live here for at least 5 years. So I have time to assess my future. At least I will have 3 months to see if I can do this or not.

Mike - Good to have these prep lists updated- broken down now in 3 videos. I am taking notes. Would be very helpful to put lists on screen as you speak as you have in the past. One thing I did was to put on paper in a small pad (or 2) important numbers, insurance info, copies of docs, address incase phone is down or lost. Also used my lockable hard shell suitcase as a safe, an under belt pouch for concealed money and doc copies like passport copy. Thanks, John

I have a lot of money, and when I "semi-retire" in P.I. I can pay for everything I need and orchestrate my life there to be quite comfortable and peaceful, I've spent time In P.I. and I know how things work there, so there will be no "surprises" for me. I'm very organized, prepared, confident and capable, so my new life in P.I. will be excellent.

Thanks for all your valuable recommendations. One topic you did not mention, the advice from my mother: "DON'T LEND MONEY !" More than once I had been too much trustful and gave money to other foreigners. For example: "only for a few days" till the newly set-up bake shop "Swiss Baker" got enough customers, which never happened. The loan should be secured by a bunch of post-dated checks (I still have them), but a few days later this bank account was closed. After spending a lot of time and money for lawyer and court - about one year every week one court session (for every single check a separate case at the trial court, often the accused or my lawyer or the judge was not available!) - finally I won all the cases, the cheater was ordered to pay back the money and was not allowed not to leave the Philippines before the loan was paid back. Of course, few days later he and his family left the country back to Switzerland, I had no more access to him. - After the death of a British drinking mate his widow asked me to give her a loan "only for a few days". I thought, till the life insurance would have paid, but apparently there was no such insurance. Probably she really had the intention to pay back (I received a few small amounts). Different the wife of another British drinking mate who at that opportunity asked me for a loan and from that moment never ever had been seen again. - Finally about two years ago from my remaining money my present Philippine lady built a small house on her lot in the province, I am allowed to work and sleep in my room, and every morning when I wake up late the coffee is already on the table. 😋

good information. Health is always an unknown, so you need a plan B at all times. I recommend a Google Voice or Skype USA phone number that you keep permanently that can automatically forward all calls to your local Philippines number.

@@mikesphilippineretirement My google voice gets text messages which are located in the Google Voice app. There is one bank I have which does not send texts to GV for identity verification, but will call with a voice message giving you the pin number for more secure authentication of your log-on. You have to be physically in the USA to get a GV number. But, nothing would prevent a friend or family member in the USA of setting this up for you. A GV number is free.

Great information, great video. Three questions... I have heard that the Philippines is mostly a Cash based society ... Is it possible to use a Credit or Debit card from the United States or do I need to open up a bank account in the Philippines ? Do American Cell phones work in the Philippines ? and finally, according to Paul in the Philippines ( Old dog new tricks ) you can live on $ 1600 per month. Is that accurate ? I would have about twice that...

We only trust LBC, for balikbayan boxes, after UMAC and others, were pilfered! Don’t lie about content, but a small guitar amplifier isn’t surcharged, but anything with the word “speaker” is! Speaking of guitars, I have shipped many, electric, as well as acoustic, guitars, using balikbayan boxes! Electric were easier, just remove the neck from the body, then ship! Acoustic, and basses( longer necks), went in customized boxes, two jumbo’s, one sliding into the other, and taped at the height needed! I spent $150.00 per custom box, at LBC, from Portland, or Seattle… Be sure and “accurately “ describe contents, as LBC X-rays their cargo! I sent several boxes, containing a used drum set, padded with all kinds of clothing, and other, soft items

Yes, Western Union...you can send funds to yourself or someone else. But there are "daily" limits...about 10,000 php per receiver. I think it's daily anyway. I know they won't allow more than 10K during one transaction, even it it is sent separately. But I never tried picking up 10K at one location and then picking up another 10k at another location, for example on the same day, to see if that works.

Hey Mike, you know, I have to admit, Paul of world zoom hit the nail on the head when he talked about young pinays with 70 year olds. To prove his point that they are really motivated, especially at first, to be with you is the stability you offer ( mainly). Just go on any Filipino dating site and you’ll see the older ones like in their 30’s to 40’s have age cutoffs at 50 something. Their mature enough to not want games and being honest in what they want. It really gives a lot of insight to the Filipina psyche really. So basically all the ones in their 20 ‘s are after sugar daddies. It’s just the truth. And it shows the ones in their early 30’s are kinda doing the same thing. Who in their right mind would want anything with alot of mileage and exit is fastly approaching than their own? I think you guys in your 70’s are in some serious denial on that fact. But if you both agree it’s just a convenience thing, then maybe that’s different. But to think love, it just more than likely be on the old man’s part, some dementia or Alzheimer’s creeping into his reasoning abilities. It’s just simply the cold, hard reality of the way life works in our world.

You're such a nice guy and I love Janet I should give you constructive feedback on why I'm unsubscribing: maybe you're just nervous, but and most of your videos, you seem angry, I think that's just your personality, super serious, maybe you see yourself as a stern advisor? Anyway, your channel isn't entertaining, watching you feels like scolding.
