If you are a city guy, that might be a great place for you. BUT, if you want a very traditional girl, go to the province. Go to church in the province. You will find girls who submit to their fathers. A Filipina who is loved by her father and reciprocates that love is the absolute best girl to marry. She will love you if you demonstrate love to her. A city girl is hit and miss.

@@GiointhePhilippines I was just on Iloilo, drove north to south and back across it. I was pretty much the only foreigner I saw for 2-3 days. A fair bit of it was hardcore Filipino, not western. But ofc These guys are ONLY talking about the Megaworld bubble, which unfortunately I didn’t see. Imo, you basically be living in a Truman’s World type environment. There is three types of lifestyles that you can have in the Philippines: a bubble western city like mega world/BGC, living on nice one of the nicer tourist islands or living in a nicer part of a regular city. Living in a regular Filipino community doesn’t see viable.

I have a few friends here in the states from Iloilo and they talk positively about it telling me I should check it out before we settle down in any one place. There is also a pinoy family from here in Northern Cali who cashed out everything and built a western style house in Iloilo a few yrs ago. They're on YT as well, "Fam from the Bay" and they look like they are enjoying life and doing well there in Iloilo.

I was raised and born in Iloilo City and have lived in Manila and Cebu for a couple of years. I would say, I still prefer my city. It is becoming a modern city but we still try to keep it traditional and more laid back. The health care facilities are very good. Going around the city is pretty convenient. Ilonngos are still quite 'conservative' in most ways.

I moved from Iloilo to a suburb near Brisbane Australia, I miss feeling safe while walking alone at night. In Iloilo I can walk home from SM to LaPaz at 9-10pm and not feel even slightly in danger, meanwhile here in our suburb I've been told not to go through my morning route at night because of the drug addicts frequenting those areas once it gets dark.

Have access to plenty of seasonal fruit marang, durian and dragon fruit. Budget is everything for some people especially I because I save $40.00 week into health fund, instead of trusting insurance where no return on instalments, I look after my health, walking every morning,no smoking and alcohol.

Good video Gio and I agree with everything you said. Being that my wife's family home is in the town of Dumangas I've been in Iloilo city countless times since 2011, and we've also taken the Roro from the port of Dumangas to Bacolod several times. They're both great places for any expat to settle, and if not for how happy I am with living in San Fernando, Pampanga, I'd choose Iloilo without hesitation.

thank you for this video about your opinion of Iloilo. I was planning on starting my long adventure in Cebu but decided on Iloilo city for many of the reasons you mentioned. I like the idea of being able to walk safely, breathe better, the westernized bubble we expats want, at least to start. I also like the esplanades for that evening or morning walks by the water. I haven't given Bacolod much notice yet, but now I'll at least look into it. especially now that there is a MegaWorld there as well. I'll be staying in a condo for a month in Iloilo while I look for a longer stay condo. I'll do the 6 months, then go to Bacolod perhaps and stay there for a while. I will, go there to check it out first before committing a long stay there.

Iloilo has gained a ton of attention in the past year or two, with it being a top recommendation to expats looking for a place to settle. If you're a homebody, then it's decent. It's a smaller place, so the malls are smaller and your options in general for products and things is more limited. The selection of produce, like vegetables, is really bad. I've been keeping track of how often my power goes out, and it's out 2-3 times PER WEEK. At this moment in time, traffic isn't so bad and it's a bit quieter than some other places, but that's changing now that so many are flocking to the city. Keep in mind that the things that have been drawing people to it, like it being less congested, will be gone as it continues to gain in popularity. Also keep in mind that things in the country are generally not maintained. So while Iloilo has many nice looking, new buildings, they are beginning to show signs of wear and dirt that will continue to deteriorate as time goes by. Take a look at the lanterns in festive walk that stretch across that pathway. It's a very popular place. At one time the lanterns were very nice and all lit. But in no time, they have begin to look filthy and at least half of the bulbs are burned out and not being replaced.

Hey Gio! My condo turnover at Megaworld Bacolod/Upper East will be in February. We chose Megaworld because of the 33 hectare campus. Currently only Regis One is occupied (over 95% sold) Regis Two was supposed to turnover a year ago. We are at One Manhattan... the only building without a day care! Herald Square appears to be ahead of schedule also. Know that Megaworld is currently offering a 20% discount if you can pay full amount in cash. I know that Megaworld is expensive, but it is in a much better location and almost 40% cheaper than Rockwell Bacolod. They wanted 24 million for a two bedroom condo. We got a one bedroom loft ...in DC a comparable unit would go for close to two million dollars. Upper East already has the McDonald's, Lopues, Lander's. Soon will have dentist, coffee shop, CDO bank and 7 eleven. The giant five star hotel will be awesome also. Note: you want to see some crazy prices... check out the subdivisions going out to airport. Megaworld Forbes Hill and Rockwell housing lots and others are outrageous!

Compare food quality, weather (can walk around outside all year comfortably), health care, transportation infrastructure, and internet in DC/Bethesda to anywhere in the Philippines 😂 I am the biggest US hater you will find but this is laughable. Philippines is third world. Condos should be 5M, not 20M. I paid $3000/mo. for a 1BR condo in Bethesda but my quality of life, and convenience was 10X than what I have in Cebu. If you can live anywhere in the world, you notice how things just don't function as well in PH.

You are right about the variance in quality of food. It's massive. Trying to find a decent steak was a challenge. Even going "Off Beach" and going to a restraint that looked quite nice and was charging $50 a steak for an 8 oz. It was rubbish. Not even as good as a "Breakfast, steak and eggs" at Denny's. Which as you know is pretty bad. And there is not point in complaining. They don't understand. It's a 3rd world country. They are not eating the food, it's a weeks wages. I do like the people and I hate to sound like a dick but your best bet is to find a place that is owned by someone from the USA, UK, Franc, Japan, Korea, etc. I did eventually find a place called Max Cow. It was pretty good. Not great but good. Fish is easer. Just keep trying places until you find a few favorites. And don't order a huge meal at a new place. Order an appetizer. If it's not good, move on. In 99% of the good restaurants, everything is good. ALL the food is good, the service is good, the place is clean and comfortable. If it's bad, it will all be bad so you will know real quick. Had a terrible Pina colada at a bar called Coco Loco. Nice place on the beach. I said to GF, "This is afoul, it's like 80% ice. She said "I watched them make it, they used powered milk." We waked by it everyday but never went back. We called it "Coco No-Go."

Sadly 80% of the restaurants, cheap or expensive - are terrible. I find food there completely inedible. Some expat should do detailed restaurant food quality reviews. The air better there than Dumagete?(I’m there now). Do you find that your bike was big enough for the trip? We were trapped in Bacolod for 3 months during the beginning of the covid-19 lockdown. I will say the foods were impressive.
