I Agree after starting in Cebu (IT park) and two best friend in Talisay and Mactan I ended up coming permanently to Duma and am living in Valencia near the market in new bldg for $20k peso with all American amenities. Hardly encounter other expats unless i want to or by some small chance when at the market or down on the Blvd. I spend 90% of my time with Filipinos and Girlfriend and her extended family who are Very established as her Dad is on Barangay (Robinson mall district) so even hanging with them i meet other councilmen, the Mayor and local businessmen. Vet your girl and her family as you Can meet a Quality Filipina as most only see videos which Don't give the Full picture of Living here. I still travel around once a month to other locations but Overall it's a Great Place; as I never originally thought i would end up here as I thought Bohol or even Cebu area but never say never till you visit. It is what you make it and figure out what you want from town you live in and don't settle.

I look forward to following your trip Gio. My wife grew up in Dumangas, Iloilo so we've been to the city numerous times, and have also taken the ferry to Bacolod probably 5 or 6 times from the port of Dumangas. We'll be heading for the family home for a month around Christmas, and I'm kind of looking forward to that. I call San Fernando, Pampanga home though. Just as a bit of an afterthought there is a place up near Bacolod you may want to visit at some point called "Campuestohan Highland Resort" that's surrounded by beautiful scenery. Pretty unique resort too and not that bad for cost.

Hi 👋 Gio. Great video about the 5 good reasons to make Dumaguete your retirement place. I agree 👍 with all of your 5 reasons. I would maybe add one more reason,..has "they say"... DUMAGUETE,..FRIENDLY PEOPLE PLACE. Question ❓ With all the new and more "upscale " places and shops opening up in the Dumaguete area,.. wouldn't it be fair to say that the prices of house rentals and other things are going to start going up in price soon ?!?...Just a thought 🤔 Also,..love your motorbike and really like the "add ons" that you have put on it,..it really makes it look cool and at the same time functional. Thanks and I'll see you when you reach and film your destination of your motorbike trip.

If you're still relatively young and interested in Scuba Diving, Waterfalls, and being close to Water then Dumagete might be a better choice for you. If you're older and more sedate, I'd recommend Angeles. Many of you, especially those who have never been in the military, think Angeles is "Sin City" and is to be shunned. But I advise first timers to the PI to come to AC. Sew your Wild Oats - you have plenty of time to go wherever you want when you are retired. Clark is a modern airport. Without any hassles, in less than an hour you are off the plane, out of the airport, in a cab for the 15 minute, 700 peso ride, to the hotels. If you are looking for friends (I'm not, my wife is my BFF), there are many American style condo complexes for longer term stays, like Kandi suites, which is a bit like a Timeshare in the states - maid service, 24/7 security guards, swimming pools, fitness centers, internet, cable TV, ATMs, convenience stores, restaurants and roof top bars on the premises, and maintenance. These condos are ONLY rented by foreigners - from Australia, Canada, Europe, Korea, and the states - so it is easy to find friends if that is your thing. For military retirees there is even a VFW here. Plus everything you need is within 1 square mile, easily walkable, but if you are lazy, trikes and grab taxis are cheap and readily available. Within that mile there is a modern SM Mall (with an Imax theatre, 200 places to eat, and 500 stores), the "Entertainment District" (with GoGo Bars, Sports Bars, Karaoke Bars, Dance Clubs, Gentleman's Clubs, and my favorite Live House with a good live band), an S&R membership store (affiliated with Costco), and lots of restaurants - American chains like Chilis, Denny's, Duncan Donuts, Krispy Kreme, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Texas Roadhouse, TGI Friday, etc - as well as my local favorites Swiss Chalet and Maiks (German), and Tequila Reef (Mexican, with the best Margaritas in town) - plus many Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Filipino restaurants, including chains like Greenwich Pizza and Jollibee. I personally don't have a Bike or a Car - don't need one here. Then 15 minutes by Grab Taxi is Clark International Airport surrounded by stores, duty free shops, restaurants, a new hospital, a Landers membership store, and the Marriott hotel with its fantastic Goji buffet featuring lobster. Yes, you can live in the Philippines, easily find friends, and have all the amenities of the states. Re Buying a Condo There are CONDO COMPLEXES like Kandi Suites, where I first rented, and now own my unit. Kandi is like a Timeshare in the states - maid service, 24/7 security guards, swimming pools, fitness centers, an ATM, convenience stores, and restaurants are on the premises, with maintenance and electric payments handled by the management. In 2011 I bought a 70SM,1BR, 2BA condo for 3 Million peso. I've since renovated it twice - once for 250K and then recently for 500K (including a double door refrigerator and 75 in TV. My monthly costs now are only my HOA fee of 8K and Electric bill (around 4K). Whenever I was in the US, I rented it out for 30K peso (plus HOA fees and Electric). Now it is my permanent home, I estimate it is worth around 7 million now. Considering that I saved on rent or got rental income for my unit over the last 13 years at 30K/month totaling (13yrs*12mo*30K) = 4.6 million peso and now own a 7 million peso unit - like home ownership in the US, I am well ahead and my wife has something after I pass. (I'm 74, she is 42 - my parents, who just died, made it to 99, so I expect to be around for awhile).

@GiointhePhilippinesАй бұрын
The water outage was an apartment problem, not a Dumaguete problem. Electric outages happen infrequently.
@remote1426Ай бұрын
There were two power outages last week. There is a scheduled half day outage this Saturday, not to mention the smaller localized outages. I wouldn't call that infrequent and that's why I spent the money on a generator. I can't say that Dumaguete has water outages but I have heard many complaints about low pressure. On the other hand it's a different story in Valencia, Bacong, and Dauin. I am currently doubling my water storage capacity due to the unreliable water supply.

Infrastructure sucks in Duma like brownouts,bad internet,no taxis like grab and medical facilities not comparable to Cebu.You should have compared Duma to other province not to a city like Cebu.

you are required to get minimum liability for it every year when you register it or now for new bikes every 3 years. It is super cheap!
