That building that you pointed out right next to Brewster is the Christenbury Gymnasium, ECU's former basketball facility. That area is basically the old sports complex when ECU was ECC (East Carolina College)...

Ben Jones from the Dukes Of Hazzard, was a student at ECU then, and he was actually there at the stadium where Kennedy spoke.

Sandra Bullock attended ECU, but in the 1980's. Vince and Linda McMahon were there late 60's/early 70's...

@@SpaGuy Ben tells a great story about it in his autobiography. Kennedy was late to the stadium because he had gotten caught up in the excitement of the tobacco auctions. There was a band at the rally, and they tried to keep the crowd entertained with the only song they knew, which was "Happy Days Are Here Again". They played it over and over till Kennedy finally showed up. When he got to the speakers stand, Kennedy opened his speech with "They say of you Tarheels that you were fastest at Bethel, farthest at Gettysburg, and last at Appomattox!"

Glad you covered this on JFK. It was so tragic when he was assassinated. It's nice hearing you talk about your childhood. Seeing a Park that you played in as a child is heart warming Thank you Billy. You would make a great detective.

This is great; back when a President was everyone’s President and the country was not divided like it is today. When both parties wanted the best for the country and the only difference was in how to achieve it. Possibly the secret to the country’s greatness back then. I didn’t know you were a musician. No wonder you’re Elvis’ No. 1 fan 😉👍

I would have to disagree the country has almost always been divided on some level including during JFK's time..

Spa Guy, it is wonderful you knew of Greenville, N. C., with your uncle living and working there. It is a beautiful city, the houses and streets are too. I think, some could come out of their houses to see J. F. Kennedy in the convertible. I loved seeing the pics, and you could locate where those were taken. (When he came to Nashville, spoke at Vanderbilt stadium (Dudley Field, May 18, 1963), our Daddy took us. I vaguely remember being in the stadium (in junior high). Daddy had us to leave the seats, and go down to the gate where he would be coming out in the car (think a convertible). I remember that vaguely, and wonder if we are in pics taken there. I wonder if you would like to do a video when he visited here. (His assassination was extremely sad, still get the same feelings thinking about it, and will to my last day. It was very sad for Mrs. Kennedy, and cruel some saying she had him assassinated because he was unfaithful to her. She had gotten where she enjoyed going on the campaign trail with him.)

The house on the corner of Jarvis and 5th is the former ECU chancellor's residence. The chancellor had to move to a larger house due to how much ECU has grown, but ECU still owns the house...

That country music club was last used as a strip club. The owner got into financial trouble. The club shut down and it was purposefully set on fire by somebody. Go figure...

Billy, Farmers warehouse was the one you thought was Hi Dollar, co-owned by T. Jack Warren. I married Mr. Warren’s niece and very familiar with it. His son, Gary Warren was one of the original members of the Band of Oz. Also the club on Greene Street was the Texas Two Step. It was originally the King & Queen North, and started having Beach Bands on Wednesdays, which turned out to be the largest Happy Hour on probably the East Coast. 1500-2000 every Wednesday. Ironically my band was the first band to play King & Queen North, and also the first band to open Texas Two Step. Thanks for doing the piece on Greenville👍

That is great info Chris.. I figured that was the same warehouse but couldn't find anything to tie them together.. I think it was the Texas Two Step when I played there but to recall the King and Queen North name.. My Uncle Ed's Septic Tank Manufacturing business was right on the corner left of the warehouse and I recall hearing Jerry Clower over there one summer.. I wanted to go see him so bad but was working.. I could hear him but never saw him.. Greenville has always been a nice place.. I went to the first grade at Sadie Salter..
