I have ALWAYS been interested in learning how to do this technique, thank you for teaching us how to master it! I remember my mother having dolls with their dresses made out of same technique you used it was beautiful and has fascinated me since I was a child I was around 6-7 yes old at the time and I'm 48 yes old today. No it DOES NOT attract ants etc... And people pay lots of money for things made out of this technique. I love it thank you! PS: I enjoy and love everything you do xoxo...

I used a white doily and I put in green food coloring so I have a pretty lime colored basket. It turned out great. Thanks for your video.

Why not use starch ? I don't think their is any cooking involved in preparing the starch and no ant concerns at all. I will say humid weather will cause a problem....the sides of your bowl will start relaxing until they are flat..if not in air conditioning. Storage is also a problem as they will crush and bend into weird shapes if packed away. My mom was a big doily maker so I watched her do all these decorative thinks as a kid. Hugs deb

I don't usually have starch on hand. When I get a project in mind, I love using what I have, rather than making a trip to the store. I live in South Florida and haven't had any issues with these bowls. :) TFW! Hugs!

Thats great! I'm in Iowa and since humidity is a big issue here I just wanted to throw it out there for your viewers. Especially if they think about using it for a summer time outside party. They are differently beautiful, for sure. At Easter time my mom would blow up a very large egg shaped balloon, wrap it in pastel crochet thread or baby yarn, stiffen it with glue I think, wait for it to dry, then deflate the balloon, cut a egg shape open, and turn it into an Easter basket center piece for our Easter tablet. Had grass, candy the works inside .... Looked pretty cute. Tfs....hugs deb.

Ooops.... No wonder mine did not work! I used 2 parts water and 1 part sugar. My doilies did not firm up very well

It didn't work I had in my oven for 25 minutes took it out let it cool there was no shape, I put it in for another 25 minutes and it still does not work.
@tootooamy4 жыл бұрын
Mary Macomber did you shape it over a bowl? Did you let it cry completely?
@WickedWitch5544 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, the first time I let it dryed , I waited for the bowl to get cool, it did not hold its shape. The second time I reboiled the water, kepped it in for 30 minutes , waited 45 minutes, and took the doily off, and it turned out beautiful. I am making 2 more. I guess I didn't wait long enough for the first time to let it dry good.
