Top 10 cool things about this scene 1. The radio song playing all throughout, both in her apartament and Guile's car. And the song's pacing matched that of the fight animation! 2. Vega actually being shown as a creepy, powerful and dangerous assassin. 3. He waits for her to do her hair before attacking because he cares about beauty. 4. >"I like to corner helpless girls like you and..." > throws a whole fucking couch at the moron 5. The Spinning Bird Kick actually looks like a possible martial arts move with her using her hands to keep herself up in the position 6. The beggining panning shots actually show Vega's POV but are also so subtle about it that you might not catch it on the first watch. 7. The tension is up for the whole scene, with Chun on the ropes and barely surviving fatal strikes, while Guile scrambles to get there as soon as possible 8. Chun's sexualization is a bit more subtle here than how a lot of anime does it nowadays. Yeah you can see her panties and thighs and all, but she's also getting bloodied and showing a range of emotions: fear, anger, determination... Plus some of the other sexual moments of it, like Vega grabbing her hair and pinning her to the wall, or Chun stepping on him and spinning her heel, which looks fucking painful. 9. Again, the animation of everything is so on point. The characters in both freeze-frames and movement, the use and consideration of the environment, the techniques and strikes that are clearly inspired by the game but also unique and much more grounded in reality... 10. Of course, they had to make the Lightning Kicks this fight's finishing move!

This is actually really good. Even without knowing who the characters are, they do a great job at making us favor the girl over Vega. We’re also aware that she’s in big trouble and that she’s at a disadvantage by them constantly showing her getting scratched, and also that he’s a big guy while she’s a smaller girl. This really kept me watching hoping for the girl to win while genuinely thinking she might lose. This is how you lock someone’s eyes into watching something: by making the audience have a good relationship with the protagonist, and show a fight where the protagonist is in great risk. The better you do these two things, the more likely they are going to watch.
@salarymanx65003 жыл бұрын
What I love about this fight is that it doesn't lower either Chun-Li or Vega in the fight. Vega is menacing, deadly and is very skilled in his art of assassination. Chun-Li was quick witted, trying to be mindful of the claw, and despite winning (and on her own) it was clearly close. Also the last drop kick she got was sick.

Also depending on the build of said couch, it would also be realistic to throw a couch. Not to mention the fact that in situations of high stress and adrenalin people have been been able to lift cars. My mother has lifted an entire bed, metal frame included with one arm and she's not a trained martial artist. So yes it's totally realistic for this trained martial artist in a very high-stress adrenaline-inducing situation to be able to lift a couch. So maybe next time before you decide to be an ass about a joke do some research.

Fun fact: Vega’s actual name in original Japanese version is Balrog, that’s why Chun Li uses that name here. Capcom had to switch Vega (org. Balrog), Balrog (org. M Bison) and M Bison (org. Vega) in USA due to concerns about the boxer fighter’s obvious inspiration Mike Tyson and a potential law suit.

Yes, it really is. Particularly, the music in the original Japanese is so much better, and really plays into the emotion you feel while watching. The music they used in the English dub was a heavy metal song and just made the whole scene feel like FIGHT!FIGHT!FIGHT!. This version, you really feel like Chun Li is fighting for her life. You feel the emotion she's going through. The same exact animation, the English dub feels like its a faster pace while this one feels slower and more dramatic. If there was ever a great example of the power of the right music in a movie scene, this was it

@SaanWukong4 жыл бұрын
@@gledianlalushllari9577 personally I grew with the american version but I prefer this one in certain ways and the other in others. With this one, when the song starts to picks as Vega begins to beat on her, you really feel she may die in this but as she does special arts as the music crescendos, you really feel the desperate assult she unleashes on Vega, making it feel more triumph. The American version loses this, however, the music makes it feel more brutal on both sides and making Chun Li more a badass taking out the trash rather than a woman defending herself in her home. In the American version, you never feel like she's gonna lose, just in a tough brutal fight.
@gledianlalushllari95774 жыл бұрын
@@SaanWukong I see your point, but the American version makes it feel more Street Fighter, rather than some action thriller. We all know she isn't going to die. When the music didn't spike, I thought Vega's surprise attack was pointless, I thought It was some fan editing or something. The AV is betta on a dailyyy basis.

Watching old animation makes you appreciate how much more movement there was, notice how they fight actually lasted about as long as it should have vs most modern anime with 3 episodes of flashbacks, 1 episode to power up, 3 more of the actual fight (both characters with plenty of flashbacks), 1 whole episode for the loser to die or be won over with the power of friendship

i disagree. You are comparing a different genre of anime to another. This was my first Japanese anime movie I watched back around 94-95'. This movie is still, to me, perfect. Also, one of the other things people praise about this movie is the fantastic Japanese soundtrack. This song in particular is one of many favorites of mine in the film. The song that is playing when Chun Li turns on the radio is called "Cry" from a band or singer called "BIG LIFE" I found a few more songs from him but not many. Damn shame because he's got a great singing voice. In either case, if you didn't know the name of the song..Now you do. Back then, I struggled to find it for years. Obviously, music is much easier to find now but every little bit helps. Even if it's a random comment on a KZbin video 😅 Have a good day everybody 😀

@@fightingmedialounge519 That's not so much adult as it is just more gore. This is adult in that 1. It's not children unrealistically fighting as most shonen anime have. 2. It's not silly and the severity of the fight isn't downplayed by her blushing like a high schooler. She's fighting for survival and Vega is gross but he's there to kill her. The overall tone is what's adult
@fightingmedialounge5193 жыл бұрын
@@gemelwalters2942 two massive holes in your logic. The first being that this fight contains several unrealistic/silly moves and moments, like Chun li kicking vega through a solid wall, so that argument is off the table. The second issue is that apart from straight up comedies, action scenes between main characters antagonist don't contain anything you mentioned because that would obviously rob those scenes of the tension their creators want you to feel. Nothing about that is exclusive to adult media. The only aspect of this fight scene that could be considered remotely adult is the level of violence, and I've already explained how this type violence is common in Japanese media aimed at middle schoolers. I mentioned wicked city because everything from the level violence that ova employs, to the type protagonist were following, isn't soemthing you would see in a product aimed at kids even in Japan.
@gemelwalters29423 жыл бұрын
@@fightingmedialounge519 there are tons of anime aimed at adults that does not include gore and violence so saying those things makes wicked city for adults doesn't hold up. This movie doesn't have that protagonist either so I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with here. And are you seriously calling out a kick through a wall as unrealistic while suggesting wicked city? Yea...nothing unrealistic in that buddy Lol that's a straight up troll argument so I'll see myself out. Have a good one
@fightingmedialounge5193 жыл бұрын
@@gemelwalters2942 you would have a point if I said wicked city was only adult for its gore, but unfortunately for you, I said everything FROM the gore to the the type of protagonist it has (someone who makes bets with his friends about who he'll sleep with and goes through with it) are things you won't see in kids movie in Japan. Either you're confusing yourself, or you need to edit your comment. If you're saying this movie also has a protagonist you wouldn't see in kids movie/series. You're wrong on that point, if anything these guys are toned down from your typical shonen leads. I never argued wicked city was releastic? I said calling any part of this movie relative is asine for obvious reasons. Have I upset you that much by pointing out the movie you like middle school fluff by Japanese standards.
