the devs of this game are Motion Twin . They aren’t “really” the one of Deadcells. Legally they hold the IP but that’s it - the original lead creator of Deadcells is Sebastian Benard/ “deepnight” and left the company altogether years ago and is full indie on his own, developing his own new game : a 80’s martial city noir beat them up in pixel art called “ Tenjutsu” - The other devs of the orignal team of Motion Twin moved years ago to a sister company : Evil Empire. They were entrusted the development of the Deadcells DLC by the structure they left Motion Twin. Evil Empire are the one who expanded Dead-cell in gameplay and lore through the various DLC They developed another game the Prince of persia roguelite ( whose basic gameplay looks a LOT like Deadcells ) Motion Twin at this point are just the IP holder. As for this game … we’ll see but compared to plenty of other upcoming games I can’t feel much about this one. The mechanics looks polished /serviceable enough . But it lacks flair and identity. The ridge dash seems nice enough. But not even as distinctive as Hyperlight drifter triple dash for instance . 3d action coop can be very fun too like Deep Rock Galactic. But Deep Rock looked special at the first look. I am not feeling this. Essentially the game looks serviceable. Not bad but not unique either. Won’t buy it as it stands. Word of mouth will say in a few months if there’s more than meet the eyes.

What stands out to me is how clear all the UI is. From the text, colors to show changes, and my favorite of little vids to show the item's effects, you always know what everything does. This is something many overlook

The backstab u could buy for 100 cogs is a passive not an ability. Once unlocked u just do 25% more damage attacking from the back.

Evil empire continued post release development of dead cells until motion twin decided they were done with it. Then halted the rest of development. As far as I know evil empire never owned or controlled dead cells in any way other than development.

It's a pass for me, the art style and gameplay seem so generic that I would never have guessed it had such pedigree behind it. I'm surprised to see the overwhelming majority of comments on this video are positive so I guess it's just not fitting with my personal preferences these days.

You're not the only one. It also looks pretty "Been there, done that" to me, too. But with future updates and the addition of co op, it might actually be better than what we think at the moment. I have to get my hands on it and sink some time into it before I really make up my mind. But as of now, I'll not buy on release. I'll see what everyone else thinks of it, and let that influence my decision to buy.
