Jak 2 is one of my favorite platformers period. People sleep on it for sure, no other game I can think of is a mix of sandbox, 3d platformer, 3rd person shooter, and driving all mixed into one, which tight controls, constant upgrades, and a serious challenge that keeps you going. Plus that dynamic sound design in the music, eerie, darker setting, mature humor, games a masterpiece. I'll be hated for saying it, but I think its naughty dogs best game they have ever made.

These came out at the perfect time for me, including the shift to the goofy edginess of the sequels. I remember making my own Jak & Daxter trading card game with index cards and colored pencils. Eco energy cards, equipment, vehicles, "evolving" Jak to Dark/Light Jak or Errol to Cyber Errol...good times. I still think it'd work well as a digital card game or something! And they've proved the series is big on bending genres, soooo... 🤷‍♂️ Great video! I love hearing about different people's personal experiences with games. Context always matters when talking about what impacts and affects us!

My thoughts: Jak 1: Still enjoyable, if a bit simplisitc. But simple doesn't always mean bad Jak 2: Still good, but I feel has aged the worst of the series because of its frustrating difficulty spikes (you know the missions) Jak 3: Still great. Only parts I really hate are the desert driving missions since the physics are WAY to slippery for no reason at times My issues with Jak 2, is there being a difference between "Fun challenge" and "Frustrating design" alot of the harder missions fall into that 2nd one

@@brando8611 For me its not that the difficulty spikes are to hard. Its moreso alot of them are frustrating, and how random they are. A majority of the hardest missions in jak 2 are in the middle of the game instead of a proper difficulty curve. Most games keep their hardest moments for the very end, But with jak 2 its right at the dead center of the game.

As someone who played all of these when they launched from 2001-2004, here’s my take: Jak and Daxter: A game both of its time and ahead of its time. A fairly standard platformer at its core, but also made seriously impressive strides forward on a technical level. No obvious loading screens, a huge interconnected world (protocol open world even), real time day and night cycles, eye popping weather effects, and graphics that made its contemporaries feel an entire generation behind. A fun, simple story, likable characters, and genuinely fun and varied gameplay. Jak 2: A bold, even risky change of tone from its predecessor while also evolving the story into a more compelling and mature direction. The animation quality and sheer volume of cutscenes was unheard of in 2003 and is still impressive today, frankly. Visually stunning, creates a living, breathing, immaculate reality. The addition of gunplay is a welcome one, as is the concept of Dark Jak. However, Jak 2 is held back by its unnecessary difficulty and baffling lack of checkpoints, both of which were not issues in the previous title. It’s tough game, but not in a way that always feels fair. It could have benefited from an upgrade system greatly. Still a great game and likely the best story in the series. Jak 3: A direct continuation of Jak 2 while, also adding more rural environments similar to the first title, combing the aesthetics of Jak and Daxter and Jak 2. The difficulty is much more balanced with the addition of health increasing armor that is doled out as the games challenge increases. The checkpoint system is also not neglected this time, making a still challenging game, much more fun and manageable. The vehicles are more present in both mission type and variety. Thankfully, they’re more durable and easy to control than in Jak 2. The wasteland is a real standout both in terms of its scope and technical ambition, almost like a playable Mad Max on the PS2. The story, plot holes aside, is stellar and ends the series on a genuinely exciting and climactic moment. A masterpiece.

I would love to see a remake of the original trilogy like toys 4 bob did for Spyro. Jak 1 was one of my first video games ever, and it took me years to realize how ahead of it's time is was; no loading screens, day night cycle, and completely open world were incredible feats in 2000. I just replayed the game for the first time in maybe 10 years (PS5 emulation) and wow still holds up. When it comes to Intergalactic, they've stated already that it's about arriving on that Planet (I forgot the name) that hasn't had anyone leave in 600+ Years and the game is about figuring out what happened and getting out essentially... Basically I believe the Ship/Space part is strictly the beginning of the game and mostly Cutscene then we'll be playing/exploring on that planet for the whole game (seems like it'll be open world, or at least much more open than Uncharted/TLoU... I can imagine it being somewhat Linear as we've come to expect but with TONS more of those "Open Chapters" that we got in U4/TLoU2)

We need a dark gritty game where Jak returns to the events following the metal head invasion prior to Heaven Cities founding, gathering survivors and refugees of mass genocide, famine, and the desertification of the rest of their continent due to the MH spilling dark eco silos without regard for the environment. I imagine in the right hands, Intergalactic may be The Precursor Legacy seamless world, multiplied by like a million and in space, in a nutshell. Or at least i wish. It really can be a revolutionary game if you can travel with the spaceship as you like, in a seamless way, and leave manually the spaceship, in any part of the planet in any planet.

God I miss playing the Jak and Daxter games so much. 2 was definitely the hardest out of the bunch but loved the story!

These 3 games are really special, I love the first the most probably. Seeing crash and jak and daxter referenced in the new Naughty Dog trailer hit me with a twinge of sadness, nothing on judging the new game, we know very little about it, but it's just a reminder that those games are of a bygone era, one I really miss.
