Love this album (even ordered the signed vinyl). I still think Billy's best songs these days aren't the big bangers and really dig songs like 'avalanche', 'cenotaph' and 'fireflies' from Atum. I think that album will be retrospectively looked upon more favourably in time.

@simian01 Hopefully with them giving us a rock album, fans will appreciate ATUM more for what it is!

I’ll throw in Sojourner as one of the top Atum tracks, as well

Musically it’s the best thing they’ve done since Oceania. Maybe Zeitgeist (I love that album). I agree with your GF about Billy’s vocals. It’s not that pleasant to listen to anymore. He used to make his unorthodox voice work thru his vocal approach but it’s been an issue the last 10 years I think. And his lyrics I still don’t really get. It’s been a solid decade of writing with this 1800s style language that nobody alive right now would understand. Not into it. But those qualms aside, musically, energetically, spiritually, it’s a good record.

@raffin2040 You're right his lyrics and vocals style are a bit off but thankfully the rest makes up for it 🤘

@@NickCinoMusic yeah. Not the home run we hope for as SP fans, but it’s a solid double I’d say

I dig it. I have appreciated every album for the changes, growth, successes, and failures. Musicians don't owe us radio friendly music. They don't owe anything. I am glad that SP albums have their own flavor, as ten versions of Siamese Dream would not interest me as much as what we have been given. This does sound more like collaboration than what the last six or seven releases have been and I do hope for more. I liked Cyr and Atum. 7/10 on those. 8/10 with this one.

@matthewgmcmillan4436 I think the fact that I can hear James and Jimmy is the best thing, it's not just Billy and his keyboard. Definitely a solid record!

There are a couple, 999 was pretty good! Melodies are not as hooky but guitars were cool

999 has been the one i keep going back to. The melody against the drums, and the drums fall out leaving only the guitar to catch your breath. Pretty crearive@NickCinoMusic

I could go on and on about it but the bottom line is it is a 4/10 with only 3 legit songs that will get repeat plays with a couple that some fans might like (Who Goes There, 999, Goeth The Fall, Murnau) but the melodies are absent, the dynamics are tired or missing as well... Just glad i get to like 3 new songs from my favorite band. Just like the handfuls of good ones from all the releases since 2018

Pentagrams has a great melody, also been getting Sicarus stuck in my head a lot. Sighommi has a sneaky good melody too. Considering the album has been out for three days maybe you should let it sink in a bit more before snapping judgment.

I just don't like the metal aesthetic he keeps repeating but at least he dialed down the god awful synths..Its a sound repeated since Zeitgeist. I miss sunnier tones like Whir,La Dolly Vita,Thats The Way,Here Is No Why and 99 Floors.There has been very little variation. I've noticed a lack of variation in the music on the last several records and I think after 20 years it's safe to say the vocals being extremely high in the mix will always be a thing with this trying to sound modern approach.Billy simply is not a good producer. A new release from Billy will always get a listen from me but that's about all I commit to as a music listener. The word salad is Billy's pretentious way of coming across as a sophisticated word smith and poet but it just comes off as disconnected and unlistenable. I don't buy releases from BC because the quality isn't there with the albums or archive releases. If there's essential music I've never heard on an archive release or a new album that has a direction I really connect to then bring it. I will invest the time and money on Machina reissue, Zwan reissue, Chicago Kid,unreleased material from 2004 -2024 then I will throw money down
@NickCinoMusic3 ай бұрын
I totally agree with your point about being disconnected - I barely make any emotional connections to Billy's music/lyrics anymore, it's all about the guitar stuff for me lately. I miss the vibe of songs like Whir and Here Is No Why too, they had an indescribable feeling.
